  • Pictures of "God's Own Borough" accompany the well known song by Willie Rushton. Neasden, the place and the song, feature in John Betjeman's film "Metroland". It was also Neasden that gave to the world Mari Wilson "Just What I Always Wanted". Neasden is also a big depot on the London Underground Railway which features prominently in this video. I can claim no credit for creating this video which I downloaded from You Tube some time ago but I fail to find it now as I search for it so I must presume that it has been deleted. I'm reinstating it as I think it was a nice piece of work which should not be lost - credit and copyright to the person who made it whoever they might be.

I'm a former resident of Willesden and went to senior school in Neasden. This is great.

He’s the grandfather of current presenter Max Rushden. Also surprises me how young he was. I mean he always seemed older to me, I remember him when I was a kid 60s/70s and I’ve had put him in his 50s then.

They call it NEASDEN, the very borough that youre pleased in. The traffic ligvhts and yellow lines and thee illuminated signs, all so welcome in the borough that everybody's pleased in. Neasden. Where the birds sing in the trees, den. You ccan hear tha blackbirds coo so why not take the bakerrloo:: It would work out that much cheaper if you buy a seasden.
But if you did you would find the bakerloo doesn't actually go that way you need the Met from Baker Street. The great William Rushton, whose little penning is on my recent copy of Private Eye with the poor little dear dropping his sword.
This is also on John Betjeman's Metro-Land made in 1973 I think. Child of the first war, forgotten by the second, we called you Metro-Land. To build at last the cottage of our dreams.

Mr Rushton always seemed like good company. I came here from wanting my kids to hear his Winnie the Pooh. Fun.

Fantastic, thanks for posting. Much appreciated by this old Willesden & Kingsbury boy. If The Old Spotted Dog was still open, I'd offer to buy you a pint there!

I bought it too. On a proper stiff 45 and all.
The coda is "It's bloody Neasden, you twit!"
I think Richard Ingrams and John Wells were involved, as well as, possibly, Barry Fantoni?

You cut out "Bloody Neasden, you twit!" at the end. Shame on you.
