  • Graeme shows you how to kill and cook a Fish! He goes fly fishing for trout and although he doesn't use a conventional wood fire, he shows you how to fillet and prepare the fish so that if a survival situation might occur, you can be prepared! Find a clean lake and go for it. Generally speaking, if the lake is used as a public water source, it's "probably" alright to fish from, just make sure you do it legally or you might get your fishing trip ruined. Once you knock it over the head, commit to getting it cleaned and cooked and eaten. Your comment was a good year ago, I wonder if you ever did it.

    I will always remember my first fishing experience. I was about 6 years old, and my mother took me to a salmon farm, where little kiddies like me were guaranteed a catch. Well I caught one, and the kind man who worked there showed me how to clean it. Well the part I remember best, was when he pulled out the heart of the salmon like this gentleman did. He lay the heart on the palm of his hand, gave it CPR with his finger, and it continued to beat on its own. Blew, my, little, mind. And at 5:17, you can see the heart of this trout still beating. Not as amazing as an adult, but it rocked my world as a kid. Thanks for the video!!

      Human hearts have their own device for pumping blood, it's called the sinoatrial node. It fires and pumps independently from the brain. It doesn't require the brain to function just oxygenated blood. I imagine the fish is like that, in that it was very much dead... But the heart keeps going for a while. In humans, if that node wasn't there, heart transplants would be nearly impossible.

    • @jamess9579
      @jamess9579 5 років тому +4

      @@Psyenic No, I think you have extrapolated from what I said. Here is why:
      (1) Not murdering animals for food when there are a vast number of easily accessible and entirely adequate alternatives, is *not the same as* "treating every animal as your equal" (although you can do that too, if you really want -- that would be great). We can have animals as pets, leave animals to roam in the wild, and do what is sensible. Just don't hurt them, harm them, or kill them. There's no point, nobody needs to do that!
      (2) The clear difference here, is that animals that kill and eat other animals in the wild do not have the intelligence to question whether that is morally acceptable, it's simply instinct. However we do, and we don;t need to act on instinct (and we arguably don't have a predatory one, anyway). Further to all of this, these animals do not have alternative options like tofu, plant burgers, grains, lentils, seitan, etc etc...
      Here is the part you did understand: "Don't kill things".
      But seriously, why did this guy need to kill the fish that was just living its life, that didn't want to die or be harmed? Why not just eat a damn plant burger? Surely you agree this would be better for everyone?
      Thanks for the sensible debate!

    When i was young (around 13) friends of my parents had a rainbow trout farm, so whenever someone ordered fish, their son (same age as me) and I would go to the pond and fish the order.. then we'd kill the fish with a big stick (same method as used in the video.. no half-ass smacking!), and then we'd gut the fish so this friends' mother could sell them fresh..

    This is by far the best video I’ve watched regarding dispatching the fish. I like that it was already deceased. Many others the fish is still alive with no clue how long, and the person doing the demonstration is shouting out to friends, talking unnecessarily while the fish still suffers. I 100% support hunting and fishing, but always believe there are humane and ethical ways to do it. So, thank you!

      You should numb fish by giving them a solid punch on the skull where the brain is underneath. Then you kill them by blood loss, you can eitger stab the heart or cut the blood vessel that goes to the gills. If you have done it right you should see some drops of blood coming out.
      Then the fish is dying or already dead. If you do not want to filet a fish that is still moving or which has a still pumping heart you can simply wait some time (until it stops moving) after you killed it.
      I think it is great, that you care about the fish! Go fishing and if you catch something treat it respectful. Kill it fast if you want to use (eat) it, otherwise release it to its natural habitat.
      If you want to filet a fish you should probably watch some other videos, Graeme is wasting quite a lot of meat in this video. This might be the same when you do it for the first time, but once you did it some times you will become better. Maybe I will make a video how I clean and filet trout, carp and zander.

With little to no experience, today was our second day and we caught a mackerel.. we were so happy but someone swore up and down it was a contaminated fish called topsmelt. He kept bugging us until we grew very doubtful and threw it back.. (our phone was dead so we couldn't even Google it to confirm what we thought it was) but now I'm dedicating myself to learn names and types so we can fish more. But I also want to learn how to properly kill and filet fish. Since I've never had family who did it. So thank you for teaching us who grew up with no knowledge 😊

    I love this channel just as I like your other one! I usually keep the white belly flesh and use it as lard instead of oil.

      When I was a kid, I didn't filet the fish. I cleaned it and into the pan it went. I separated the meat from the bones when eating it. Fried tail fins are delicious (the softer parts that is).
