He's a sweet character that sees the world as an rpg which is like a 4th wall break for his personality which fits him and he can just be an idiot which makes him hilarious I swear I laughed throughout like a dragon due to some of his interactions with characters, minigames etc. He is just a blast of a character to play as 🤣🤣

I love how Like a Dragon takes all the goofy elements of past Yakuza games and just amps it up by 1000. One of the most unforgettable battles of any game I have ever played was that giant robot vacuum cleaner from Like a Dragon. These games are creative gold and I'm all for it!

Kaiji Tang sounds great! Though can I say that the voice acting direction for Kiryu sounded inconsistent? At some points, you could swear Yong delivered his lines close to what a 50-ish Kiryu would sound like (close to Darryl Kurylo's rendition even), but on some scenes he just sounded like he read lines in his conversational voice. All that said, I still think the English dub is worth playing and enjoying, but I'd still personally stick to Japanese for karaoke.
It sucks that Kiryu's last two games won't have a consistent-sounding Eng Kiryu throughout, considering Yong was "finding his voice" as they were recording lines.
Problem is that Yong sounds way too young even when he is putting on a deeper voice you can tell that voice would crack if he raises it. Its just a miscast

While Yong Yea's performance is decent at best and bad at worst (read: THE KARAOKE), we shouldn't really put all the blame on the guy even if his acting was inconsistent and lacking. Remember that RGG Studio chose him, assigned voice acting coaches and directors for him, and greenlit the final result. Multiple people are responsible for this performance, including Yong himself, who should've strived for consistency at least.

Interesting hearing an English adult Haruka i mean I'm gunna do an English dub playthrough after my first playthrough so it's nice to hear unlike most people i actually like playing in English so i can focus on the animation instead of readings subtitles only issue i have is the karaoke and kiryu's new VA while i don't think hes terrible he's ok he sounds far to young. I still prefer the game in Japanese but the English dub will give me more time to enjoy the cutscenes
The voice actor for Kiryu is a UA-camr by the name of Yong yea he’s a good voice actor for smaller projects. He was even a voice actor for the main bad guy in JoJo Stone ocean but as kiryu I feel like sega heavily miss cast him, and no offense to him, but his voice just does not work with kiryu my opinion The rest of the other English voice actors on our hand were amazing Still debating if I should Japanese or English but I am expecting this game to be amazing Either way.

I hope the SEGA audio team keeps tweaking Kiryu's ENG voice and improve the voice synchronization a bit more (for everything else), as it already sounds much better here! Don't even have to re-dub everything, just some polishing :) I'm so excited for playable Seong-Hui with the OG crew, and play Ichiban again!!

I honestly feel that Yong's acting isn't bad, it actually sounds kind of good in some of the more dramatic scenes, the problem is mostly that he sounds way to young to be voicing a Kiryu that is 55 years old at this point. If he was voicing him in yakuza 0 I think it would actually fit pretty well with a younger and less mature version of Kiryu.
Yeah he does make Kiryu sound like he's younger than he'd really be. I'll probably be able to bear with it if/when I do an English dub plaything or something, rather than outright dismiss it
Honestly the singing was a little goofy in Y7 so I never seen much of an issue with his voice glad he doesn't do a bad job in the story stuff, and it just shows how bad the band wagon shit can get.
Absolutely love that this takes place in Hawaii (my home state) and I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds and what kind of shenanigans Ichi and the crew get up to.
Much as I love playing in Japanese like all the other yakuza games. I enjoy hearing ichibans American voice. I’m so F happy that these game are blowing up and getting all the love they deserved for so many years

Happier days with Nishiki and Yumi, celebrating Majima's birthday (Kiryu Everywhere gag to mess with him), Sagawa genuinely trying to befriend Majima after Shimano leaves him in his care (no luck but early on he does try rather than just antagonize; Majima _slightly_ appreciates the gesture), Shimano having to participate in local festivals as an upstanding and "fun" representative of the Tojo Clan in an attempt to better PR (alongside Dojima and the other patriarchs. Nishiki and Kiryu forced to wear mascot costumes so Shimano and Dojima dont have to. Nishiki loves it, Kiryu has no rhythm but tries - Kazama has a party hat, Patriarch Goda is just a happy old guy being wheeled around, eating festival food). Bob is a nonspeaking hidden background character in every episode; Komaki occasionally busts through a door, window, or wall to surprise Majima or Kiryu and train them (they run because he appears at inopportune times). There could be more but these are just some stuff off the top of my head.
Yong has definitely improved his voice and you can hear it at certain points in the video. But there are still parts where it just sounds like him. The direction is all over.
I admit i still have my reservations about Yongyea, but i still look forward the dub specially with the other characters, specially Daniel Dae Kim and Danny Trejo
This English Dub definitely made me super hyped for the game! Got sucked into what was happened right away again. Feels so great to hear these character's in English and I can't wait to play this game with this cast. It's gonna be madness, silliness, and emotional and I'm all for it! ^_^

Yong's Kiryu actually sounds pretty alright here, I think, though kinda inconsistent,. Like I genuinely think 5:46 and 7:15 are good demonstrations of what he's capable of, but then you get to 8:30 and he kinda just sounds like a deeper take on his normal speaking voice? I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me as I play through the game.
The inconsistency is a little off-putting, but it's not the worst thing in the world, yeah. The trailer definitely was a better showing of his performance. I'm sure it'll grow on me.

As always, the English cast is stellar …and there’s also Yong EDIT: I don’t want to be an ass about it, especially after all of the drama that ensued when people started posting about him singing Judgment, but I still just don’t like the results. I love the English dubs for 7 and both Judgment games, and for what it’s worth, Yong was great as Shirakaba in Kaito Files. I’ll still play 8 in English (assuming the dub is there on release), but I’m still kinda upset that we didn’t get Darryl back, or at the very least, another actor that would fit Kiryu better than Yong

99% PERFECT it would be 100% if Daryl Kurylo was not replaced. If Daryl Kurylo was STILL playing Kiryu, this would DEFINITELY be Game of the year for me.
Yong actually isn't bad especially here but damn he still deals with the problem of not fitting kiryu's age but he does a decent job here Hopefully they redo the karoke minigame too and get rid of the autotune
They used auto tuned version from demo version in this trailer, that gave me some BAAAAAAAD vibes. Let's hope they'll improve judgement. Kasugas version of judgement is even worse since it has even more auto tune.

Not surprised it sounds better though, considering that the recording and all we currently have is purely just a demo. Excited to see how it turns out

We grew up with kiryu, literally watching his life story play out before our eyes. This will be amazing.

Half the time Yong uses his regular voice, while the other half he sounds like he’s actually trying for Kiryu.

Happier days with Nishiki and Yumi, celebrating Majima's birthday (Kiryu Everywhere gag to mess with him), Sagawa genuinely trying to befriend Majima after Shimano leaves him in his care (no luck but early on he does try rather than just antagonize; Majima _slightly_ appreciates the gesture), Shimano having to participate in local festivals as an upstanding and "fun" representative of the Tojo Clan in an attempt to better PR (alongside Dojima and the other patriarchs. Nishiki and Kiryu forced to wear mascot costumes so Shimano and Dojima dont have to. Nishiki loves it, Kiryu has no rhythm but tries - Kazama has a party hat, Patriarch Goda is just a happy old guy being wheeled around, eating festival food).
Bob is a nonspeaking hidden background character in every episode; Komaki occasionally busts through a door, window, or wall to surprise Majima or Kiryu and train them (they run because he appears at inopportune times).
There could be more but these are just some stuff off the top of my head.
Yong has definitely improved his voice and you can hear it at certain points in the video. But there are still parts where it just sounds like him. The direction is all over.

This English Dub definitely made me super hyped for the game! Got sucked into what was happened right away again. Feels so great to hear these character's in English and I can't wait to play this game with this cast. It's gonna be madness, silliness, and emotional and I'm all for it! ^_^

Yong's Kiryu actually sounds pretty alright here, I think, though kinda inconsistent,. Like I genuinely think 5:46 and 7:15 are good demonstrations of what he's capable of, but then you get to 8:30 and he kinda just sounds like a deeper take on his normal speaking voice? I dunno, maybe it'll grow on me as I play through the game.

The problem with Kiryu voice is that he sounds like a random NPC, he doesn’t have the aura of a legend

EDIT: I don’t want to be an ass about it, especially after all of the drama that ensued when people started posting about him singing Judgment, but I still just don’t like the results. I love the English dubs for 7 and both Judgment games, and for what it’s worth, Yong was great as Shirakaba in Kaito Files. I’ll still play 8 in English (assuming the dub is there on release), but I’m still kinda upset that we didn’t get Darryl back, or at the very least, another actor that would fit Kiryu better than Yong

7:20 I really hope this part is near the end of the game Kiryu going to the airport to fly to Okinawa to spend whatever time he has left at the orphanage If he dies of cancer he at least deserves to be with the ones he loves the most. Daidoji shouldn't stand in his way either. At this point, the cat's already out of the bag and he's already done so much for them. Just give the man what he deserves!

They used auto tuned version from demo version in this trailer, that gave me some BAAAAAAAD vibes. Let's hope they'll improve judgement. Kasugas version of judgement is even worse since it has even more auto tune.

Unpopular opinion but Yong actually sounds so much better here and I think it’s actually pretty good. They must’ve either done some coaching or some editing. Not surprised it sounds better though, considering that the recording and all we currently have is purely just a demo. Excited to see how it turns out
