    I don’t think TKR is too far off base. He only took 4.8 shots per game. Lance Jones took exactly double the number of shot attempts per game at 9.6. Also Edey averaged 14.6 FGA plus 11.2 FTA so he he’s shooting close to 20 times a game. TKR getting 12-15 “touches” (shot attempts per game) I don’t think it too crazy.

      Can he carry that sort of load and see that increase in production? Absolutely. Will he have to? I'm hoping not since that probably means the rest of the bigs aren't living up to their potential.
      I'm guessing he's probably option 2 or 3 on offense, but not to the point where he'll lead the team in scoring this year. I see a modest bump, maybe to 10-12 ppg, while Smith, Loyer, Heide and Colvin will all see substantial bumps in scoring as well. I wouldn't bet against a couple of the guys off the bench getting 6-8 or so a game as well.

    TKR at the 5 on defence worries me. That being said, TK can score the shit out of the ball with space.

  • @bradprather823
    @bradprather823 5 днів тому +9

    TKR's comment was in reference to being asked about playing through Edey as the first option on offense. He wasn't implying that he should get the ball more over Edey last year at all. TKR will have a good year even at the 4 and use a double post attack with TKR/Jacobsen much like Indiana with Ballo/Reneu. TKR was extremely valuable at the 4 as he was able to overpower most players at that position.

    TKR playing alongside a very good 7+ foot guy makes me happier. I don't care if you count him as a 5 or 4. If TKR is the center and he is the tallest dude for Purdue, then it will probably be a long year for Purdue. Unless TKR grows from 6'9 to say 7'1, he is just not going to compete against the best big men. Now him at a 4? Guarded by other 4s? I like that matchup.

    • @3302Jackson
      @3302Jackson 4 дні тому

      6’9 is plenty big enough for a center lol. Painter always doubles the post on the catch anyways, even when he had Edey guarding their center and it didn’t really make sense to rotate and send a double.
      The primary combination of TKR/Furst will be plenty good enough defensively.

    • @SteveMichael
      @SteveMichael 3 дні тому

      @@3302Jackson Can you tell me a team with a 6'9 center who made a final 4 recently without crazy NBA level guards? I hope TKR has a great year and proves me wrong. I hope he scores 30 a night and pulls down like 15 rebounds. Again I like this dude, and time will tell, but if Purdue is going to go far, I just don't see this dude at center. Unless of course he suddenly can start shooting say 35-40% from the 3, and gain a great shot off the dribble. If he posts up low, like Edy did? All the time? He will, in my opinion have a solid game of around 16 points, and Purdue will loose against most good teams. He won't be able to score over good center enough. He isn't all enough to pull down a lot of boards, or alter enough shots like Edy did. He won't be the guy that the REALLY want to go to when they must have a basket. Now again, I hope at the end of the year I see this posts and think "man I sure was wrong about TKR!!!, Dude is an NBA lottery pick!" But I just don't see that.

  • @bensmith7385
    @bensmith7385 4 дні тому

    TKR at the 4 with a rim protecting 5 doesn't necessarily limit his touches on offense. Both Jacobson and Berg can shoot (theoretically), so just like TKR was at the top of the key passing to Edey in the post last season, I think the same thing could happen next season but the opposite- TKR is posting up and the 5 is passing in from the top of the key.

      Seems like his mind is elsewhere. Nothing wrong with planning a career post basketball, but he hasn't been showing it on the court. A lot of dudes are born into massive basketball player bodies, but aren't super passionate about basketball.
      Seems like is production is a direct result of how interested he is in the game. At the start of their careers, Furst seemed destined to be much better than TKR. TKR is focused on the game and surpassed him.

  • @3302Jackson
    @3302Jackson 4 дні тому

    In the limited time we saw TKR operating as the primary post option (Illinois comes to mind) he was great. He will be on an all-conference team next year for sure. Reading way too much into this, but that's what you guys do, and we all should just accept that at this point.
    If you've listened to TKR the past few years, and even during his recruitment, there is no turmoil or conflict there at all. He's simply saying that if he's asked to carry the load he's capable of doing just that. If the other bigs (plus Heide) are as good as they should be, he won't be asked to carry the load to the level he alludes.
    Also, Painter even discusses the 'problem' they have later in the article, basically stating he's looking forward to coaching a team with different talent and skill-sets at the 4 & 5 than the past few years.
    Nothing to see here ... move along.

Purdue will have one of the most versatile teams in the country next year and they'll all be happy campers. Last year was all about Zach Edey and rightfully so. Next year they will be able to play much more to the opposing team's weakness on defense. IMO, losing Catchings was no great loss. Great potential, yes. Potential rotten apple in the barrel, yes. Paint saw him for what he was and let him go. We now have 12 TEAM players who saw success last year and want to do it again.
