Jeremy, this is one of the clearest and most instructive how-to videos I've ever seen! Great job. You spent the exact amount of time that you should have on each feature, your camera work was perfect and I understood every word you said. Bravo!
Nice walk-through! Very hard to get a preview of all these sounds without buying one! Great job in helping people understand what they are getting, and nobody else has done that with this amp! I bought four of these back in the day to give to my sons and friends for use as practice amps. I like these!
Excellent review! I've had this same amp for many years, but I honestly had no idea it has half of these features - let alone how to use them. I'm gonna dig mine outa the closet right now.
I love my Vox AD30VT. I had several amps over the years. A Fender, a Marshall, a Crate, Vox, and Vox battery models. I love the Vox sound being a Beatle fan since the late 60's. I have two amps left and one of them is the the Vox AD30VT and the other is the Boss Katana Mini. Its a good amplifier.
This takes pedals very well. Just remember to put it into manual mode and disengage the on-board effects. Hats off to Jeremy, this is a very good review of this great amp. I have the AD50 VT and it cranks for live gigs, in clubs, gyms, halls, etc. Mic it up for really big gigs and you're set!
How do you disengage the on board effects? I've just bought a second hand ad50vt (it was supercheap) but don't want to use any of the effects and just want a clean channel as I use a Line 6 firehawk.
Great video man. Thanks for keeping the chords simple too. So many people want to thrash and you can't event tell what it sounds like. I have the AD100VT and this is the best example of the general sound of these I've heard yet. Also this does take to pedals well. I crank everything on a clean channel then slowly bring up the gain. If I go near 50% gain it gets muddy.
Gain is your tube saturation. I crank it and master, then adjust the overall with the volume knob, and/or the knob on the back. Also, I changed the tube and the speaker, that helped getting rid of mud as well.
Thanks a lot for this video , I've just bought this amp second hand and I'm impressed with the sound quality and effects already . Great with a Les Paul , just have to be careful I don't disturb my neighbors too much now
This was a great, thorough review. Bonus points for making sure the controls were in focus. A shocking number of others who reviewed this family of amps were illegible as they zoomed in.
I've had this amp for awhile, I love it when I find the perfect sounds, one clean one heavy and then some how I lose them and the search is on all over again. But otherwise it's a great practice amp for the price. I think I paid about 180 about 8 years ago, not sure.
Great demo! my only and inconsequential notes are: " nu-metal" = new metal and "Valve Tronic" as in an electronic valve (or tube) amp. Anyway, I just picked up a used one and your run through was excellent, thank you!
only thing that VOX keep on disappointing me is not having a way to add both REVERB AND DELAY at the same time but still i got a lot of appreciations for several of the VOX amps
I have a couple of fenders and Marshall. I go past a house selling furniture and goods from the house as the occupants are moving. So I came across this amp, take it home, plug in my guitar and since then I haven’t used my other amps. I love this amp and it’s so loud even at 3 or 4
Great vid for a great amp. I've got it's younger brother a AD15VT, £60 including the switch pedal. It's my goto practice amp. I've even gigged it in combination with other amps, splitting the guitar output straight in to the Vox and the other channel going into a pedal board for a constant clean sound.
Vox AD30VT is really a great amp... For me, it's one of the best accessible amps for sale in trade... There is an option that you can set the footswitch pedal to control like a "3rd channel"... it works as the first switch controls programmed channels 1 and 2, while the second switch activates the manual mode, in order of you can see set at physical knobs...
One other thing worth noting. If you want to chain out of this amp into a cabinet, there is no jack for that on the amp. If you do not believe me, take a look at your amp if you have one. It can be done by re-configuring the headphone jack, but it involves a lot of work and you'll most likely lose some of the amp's power. If you want a plug and play cabinet feature, go one step higher and get the VT40 or higher in the VT Series.
I had that problem with the 100 watt version of this amp so sold it on. I've bought this amp at the same time as the 100 watt and it's still going strong. About 3 or 4 years now....
Great video. A girl is giving me this amp with a fender strat today. I'm pretty excited.....I've got q mesa dual rectifier and 4x12 box cab back home. Never see it again.....too much to ship across the whole daggum country.
just bought this amp for 70 bucks used at guitar center :D haha my buddy had one i loved it hes had it for years and even spilled beer in his a few times and still runs like a champ!!!! if you can get one for 70-100 i highly recommend it for practice or small gigs!!!
I have spilled many a beer (and other alcohols) into/onto my amp and I'm glad to hear there are other musicians brothers doing' the same! Rock on!!! LOL
it's a good little amp, once you learn to use it. The basic set & forget presets are useless on their own. Set it to manual, then turn the preset nob to obtain the amp voicings. Add a pedal for more clarity. Also sounds great when you mic it up
Mine was a freebie. Got a place that gives me all the electronics they get in. I need to learn how to play with all the amps and stuff I get in. I'm in to the 70s rock .... Heard a few tunes in the video I remember. Actually most of them.
so correct me if I'm wrong, but you can essentially get four channels using the footswitch. for instance, if you were using the two channels as a clean and dirty channel: channel 1: clean (w/ effect) channel 1a: clean (w/o effect) channel 2: dirty (w/ effect) channel 2a: dirty (w/o effect)
I have one in every city!! I was looking for a small amp at a flea market. I saw this and it blew my mind! I paid 100$ each amp, used. it's similar to the Roland jazz 120 I had in the good ole days.
yo, did anyone ever run into a short where the sound fades in and out as you're playing? I'm having this happen with my ad30vt and I'm not really sure why. would rather not have to replace it if there's a simple fix.
Excellent demo video. In fact, one of the best I've ever seen. Too many demo videos are just an excuse for a guitarist to show off his playing skills without really describing and demonstrating the amp. But I do have one question. If I use the line out feature to go into either a bigger amp, a recording console, or a mixer, does the amp's speaker stay on or not? Currently, I play through a 15 watt Marshall combo with a Shure SM-57 in front of the speaker going into the PA. I face the amp towards me on a stand and use it as my monitor. I just bought a Vox AD30VT to replace the Marshall. Do I still need to use the Shure, or can I go direct from the line out and still use the amp as a monitor?
kausto j It works very well with effect pedals. I normally use pedals in the AC30TB amp model option and the Reverb effect, and it sounds really good. You can sum pedals with the onboard effects of the amp too. For example, using delay pedal with the amp's delay effect... It will really sound very well, mainly if you match delays in quarter, half or dot-eighth tempos.
This amp served me well for about 7 years. Nothing to complain. Unfortunately he died today, caused by a instable chip or something... Repair is almost expensive as a new one Vox ADVT.
for the record, a factory reset seems to have solved the problem (look up in manual how to do it), although there still seem to be some weird quirks and glitches happening.
Nice Review! I just want to know if this amp would stand out even with an acoustic drums messing around. Will it still sound loud when used together with other accompaniments lets say a full band? Inside a room around 100-120 sq meters,??? Thanks!
im usg my amp mine is the same amp the ad30vt and its loud as heck i hook my phone to it to play our solemn hour by withintemptation and its super loud
i've had this amp since about 2008, i have a Boss turbo distortion ds-2 pedal which really seems to fuck with the sound. do other pedals not work well with this amp?
Hey i really need some help and i'm not good wihth amps and stuff. I have the same amp as u have and i have a les paul. I think i put in the same amp settings as u did but it sounds really horrible. It's like a big fat background sound that i cant get rid of. ive tried turning the bass down and everything but i just can't make my guitar sound good. Please any tps/help?
I have a vox vt30, but now there is a problem. if I play for 30 minutes, the sound suddenly decreases and hoarse. what's the problem?? Please help me. Thank you
I own this amp and like it,however the problem is it doesn't have a send and return loop so if I want to add any pedals I have to place them pre-amp which is not ideal(especially for delay and echo effects). Can somebody please advise me:I am thinking of adding an external speaker so that I can use my pedals in between the two, assuming this is viable, what is the best speaker to use with it? Thanks in advance for any help.
@regskylt Dude the vox is way better. The valve or the tube makes it sound much better than the line 6 stuff. I guess since the vox ad30vt is no longer available new you should look at the vt20+ or the vt40+ or you can pick up the ad30vt used for around $120. I do have to say line 6 spider 4 isn't bad for certain things though. Tone wise the vox is better.
The vt30 is the model after the ad30vt. It has upgrades. I would get the vt30, but it was only made for 2 years, it might be hard to find on the used market.
yes it works very well for smaller gigs, and it'll keep up with a drummer. i've played with this awesome little thing many times, in many different venues. it puts out quite a kick for such a little amp. just play with the highs and lows when you have it turned up loud. the largest crowd i've played in front of with this amp was around 2000 people, although i was also running through a system i could still hear it just fine. hope that helps :)

About to pick one up off Craigslist for $50, will run in stereo with my VR30.
qoheleth52 that’s a steal I see most going for around 100 or more
@ChainChomp122 I would say that this is not a primary amp for pedals, as it is a modeling amp.
I've got this amp and what I really don't like is that reverb is a separate effect. I like to have a bit of reverb with everything.
Buy a reverb pedal...

can this amp make toast ?
Michael Seymour ; it slices the bread and then spreads the butter also ; Oh and also places a cup of Java on the side.

Hi, Someone please tell me how does the amp work on analog pedals ?

yes it works very well for smaller gigs, and it'll keep up with a drummer. i've played with this awesome little thing many times, in many different venues. it puts out quite a kick for such a little amp. just play with the highs and lows when you have it turned up loud. the largest crowd i've played in front of with this amp was around 2000 people, although i was also running through a system i could still hear it just fine. hope that helps :)

Yes definitely. I have this amp and if you crank it up to 30 watts it's kind of hard not to hear it
