As a huge fan of the Sega Master System, I really loved seeing the "Jungle Zone" from Sonic the Hedgehog as the Atlantic Forest.

This is a surprisingly accurate depiction of Brazil. When I went there, I had to dodge bullets matrix style while climbing clotheslines just to get from the airport to the hotel, too.

This should've been how Nintendo made educational Mario games in the past. Imagine they had done a whole series of games about Mario visiting different cities and learning the areas and history... Regional music, different foods and relevant bosses... I would've loved this stuff as a kid...

Nice ref. I laughed at the fact that the very first thing (and the most common on the level) was a bullet, in the Copacabana level. Stray bullets flying everywhere. I did find it a little weird that you put the Atlantic forest near the Pantanal. Brasil hasn´t had any Atlantic forest in that area since the 16th century. Nowadays it´s mostly destroyed (about 7% left of the original forest), but it´s remains are mostly on the (Atlantic) coast... Nice touch w/ the dino in Acre. kkkkk. Show de bola. Parabens!

This hack is outstanding, from the level design, to explicit facts about Brazil from the info blocks, to the implicit facts about Brazil (I frequent a lot of gore sites so those parts had me rolling 😆, such as the omnipresence of stray bullets), and even the music, which is actually pretty good.
I actually forgot this wasn't a real Nintendo game because it's so well made and became nostalgic.
We spend so much time on the Mushroom World, it's easy to forget that Mario is a native of Earth, since he's an Italian-American from Brooklyn, New York. I always wondered why more adventures didn't take place on Earth. I only know of the original Mario Bros and Mario's Missing.
Very cool hack! And it even teaches some neat stuff about Brasil that most don't know! Pretty cool stuff!

It's Rio and it has random bullets flying around, that's quite a realistic aspect that was included in the game.

Eu acho que ROMs como essa são excelentes. Imagine que dá pra criar uma diversificação incrível de fases novas, em vários países, além do Brasil. Se quiser pegar somente a beleza de cada lugar, pegaria o mais popular de cada continente, os desertos, a natureza, os cartões postais. Ex: na América do Sul, a Amazônia, o deserto do Atacama, Machu Picchu no Peru, a Cordilheira dos Andes, a Ilha de Páscoa no Chile, Ilhas Galápagos no Equador, e por aí vai, em cada continente, seria fantástico vários Super Mario World em cada lugar do mundo fazendo jus ao nome.
Agora imagina um Mario galaxy explorando cada planeta dessa galaxia!
