Something that's huge is the fact that all Adobe programs are compatible with each other. You can make an image in Photoshop, animate it in After Effects and then add that clip to a Premier file... All while still being able to make changes to any of those files that automatically update to all the projects that it's being used in.

It was very interesting as a long time Premiere user to get an insight into Final Cut Pro. And I have to admit, I think there are some aspects of Final Cut Pro that are better than Premiere Pro. I don't think Premiere on its own is necessarily better. But what makes Premiere so unique is how it interoperates with all the other programs of the Adobe Creative Cloud.

A couple months ago I watch this video and it began to show me that it was time to move on from Premiere Pro after years of being on Premiere Pro. As a Windows user, I switched to Davinci Resolve (which I find to be more like Final Cut). Premiere felt clunky and outdated, it crashed frequently for me and when trying to edit in a fashion similar to you with constant L and J cuts, it was absolute hell to make even the smallest of tweaks. I'm happy to now be a member of the Resolve gang!

  • @scooterD3

In my experience, FCPX is leagues faster than Premiere. However, recently, I've switched over to using Davinci Resolve for most of our editing projects. There's a couple reasons we've done this, primarily because most of our projects can get very large, and FCPX starts to die on extremely large projects. Would love to see you do this same thing in Davinci Resolve. A word of warning: it's a complicated beast lol. Great video!

    • @marlonb1852
      @marlonb1852 2 роки тому

@@VinceVintage I would say that Premiere Pro isn't as efficient as it could be, however Tarans Mods to Premiere are mainly for productivity Freaks.
For instance, one of his ahk scripts automatically mouses over to the scale Text and holds the left Mousebutton until he releases the key and put the Cusor where it originally was. Or tasks which are always the same for the LTT editing Process. I recall that he has a script which automatically applies Gain, sets both the left and the Right Channels to mono and applies a basic Color Correction all within 2 Seconds. And that is all that he needs before doing the rough Cut of the A-Roll
Theese are all mainly small automations of repeating tasks, which you would find in any other Program.

Fun vid, also a nostalgia trip on learning how to edit in Premiere (though it was my first editor). The biggest tips for me:
-Set a key short for ripple edit from playhead position to beginning of clip (emulates magnetic timeline)
-Do the same as above but for end of clip (emulates magnetic timeline)
These two alone saved me a ton of time, although I have to lock the other tracks (e.g. BGM) to keep ripple edit form cutting *everything*
-To size a clip, right click the clip and select "Scale to frame size" (extra clicks for sure, though)
-When I adjust clip speed I right click the clip and choose speed/duration, there's a checkbox for ripple edit which again does the magnetic timeline bit...though this approach may not be the best for ramping speed...I'm still learning too.
Like several of your viewers mentioned, I'd be interested to see your thoughts on Da Vinci Resolve, it's on my "to-try" list as well. Have a good one!

You had some really great insights as to features I would love to have in premiere. I have binded ripple-delete backwards and forwards in premiere to "Q" and "W" and that saves me loads of time when I edit.
PLUS! The moment you start playing with after effects and can do both Premiere and AE it get's really, really hard to go back to another NLE..
I do both compositing and editing and the flexibility I have when I have to change some motiongraphic-stuff is just next level in premiere when I work with shared compositions.
Premieres biggest problems imo is bugs and performance..

Helpful tip: About the 1080p video that doesn't fit to a 4k project, you can right-click the clip and click "set to frame size", not the "scale to frame size". So when you "set to frame size" the video size matches the 4k video size and the scale property (in effect controls) will remain at 100%. The "scale to frame size" however does the same time except it uses the scale property and doesn't maintain the original resolution.

Most of the problems you had would be easily solved by personalizing your editing tools. Even the scale issue you had, there’s a way of changing that automatically on settings so it fits by itself (fit to scale). And that’s the beauty of Premiere. It’s really interchangeable and customizable

  • @PetrosofSparta

I think what it really comes down is it’s like shooting a camera with manual settings (premiere) versus auto settings (fcpx). I feel for UA-cam the magnetic timeline, the instant scale and auto sped functions, they’re what you need. But when editing something huge like a feature where you want all that instant manual control, I love Premiere.

For the audio envelopes, the clip thumbnails can show in the timeline if you make the track taller by dragging it; then you have both the thumbnails and waveforms. I know it's not really the same, but it's workable

A small window will pop up, where you can fine tune the speed % to what you want, and also choose things like if you want the audio pitch to go down with the speed, or if you want to use frame blend or optical flow (Cor clips you slow down beyond the amount of frames per second, so you don't have repeating frames)

Premiere is more manual, which is better for some editoris because of the fine-tuning aspect of it. The automatic resolution fill and the magnetic timeline could be something that would slow down a different editor that would like it a certain way. For example, if you'd like to replace a clip that is in sync with the sound without having to adjust it a few times to be the exact length of the video that was there before, Premiere keeps the space of the previous video, which you can just fill up with the replacement video.

I believe that it doesn't matter what editing software you use. I traditionally use Premiere but a client wanted me to use DaVinci which is a good editing software but I now understand your struggle of trying a different software.

I've used and am proficient in both but not a pro or anything. Of course things are done kind of differently but I honestly couldn't pick "the better one". I think it is just a matter of preference honestly, or which one you're more used to, because they're both great quality softwares. But I do love how After Effects, Photoshop and Premiere are so easy to use together, it makes the process so much more streamlined. Kind of like using an iPhone when you have a Mac.

Customizations I'd done for my Premiere Pro :
1.Set the default of dragging a clips head or tail into ripple-trim rather then a trim
2.Q and W for ripple-trim to the head or to the end
Just a few thing only but it improves my process so much

The keyboard short cuts are powerful in Premiere. Check out the ripple edit before and after short cuts. If I press Q it deletes everything before the playhead W deletes everything after, moving the who timeliness to fill that space. Makes editing so fast.

This is me in Divinchi resolve… I’ve been using Premier since 2003 lol. It’s comfortable and I know it inside and out… divinchi is great if you are on a budget or it’s comfortable to use for you. The best software is the one you know how to use lol. I will continue to try and learn DR but I won’t be switching over anytime soon. The node system is a little much. More complicated than it needs to be. But I understand what they are trying to do.

Quick question HillerSmith: When you're adding the texts on screen with the VCR font, is the black background attached to the text or you have to manually do both? Like you add text and then the background underneath the text because that's what I have to do on Vegas Pro.

A lot is to do with what you know - there are editors I can't wean off Avid. Premier Pro BTW has a way to map all the shortcuts straight from Final Cut which is an instant boost for all FCP users moving to Premier Pro.I switched to Adobe when FCP (11?) was discontinued because I like the control of two screens. The latest AI transcription and word match in Premiere Pro is a game changer for editing interview.
