These old latitudes are badass. Had a 6530 I gave to a buddy with the i5 3230 just like yours. He loves it. Runs hot, but fast. If you're careful (and have the proper skill/equipment), you can do what I did and actually remove the green/grey anodizing finish off the top of the lid and sand it down to be even again, getting rid of the dents. You can either leave it as chrome and throw some clear coat on it to protect it, or perhaps paint it something else.
I got the E6440 latitude with a 4gb upgrade, totaling 12gb of ram for 269 usd. Such an awesome laptoo, sturdy, classy and fast. I put and SSD on it and works really Smooth and the i5-4300m is pretty capable.

It gets really hot though, but if you have a keyboard to add on and a mouse, you'll be fine. Its a hand me down, my dad used to use it for engineer work for a while.

This is my daily driver laptop. Core i7-3470qm, 16 gb of ram, 500 GB ssd. Dual-boot of Windows 10 and Arch. Solid laptop and I’m not afraid it’ll shatter if I drop it. It’s not as nice as a ThinkPad T430, but it was significantly cheaper. Friend gave it to me for free with the dock. I upgraded the cpu, ssd, and ram all for ~$100.
The t430 runs cooler (generally) and has some better upgrade options (1080p screen IIRC, excellent t420 keyboard with some work). Thinkpads also tend to have a stronger community than Latitudes. The Latitude line is almost always cheaper, though.

I wasn’t going to pass it up. The Dell Lattitude has wireless charging, biometrics, backlit keyboard etc etc. selling my old touchscreen pos I’ve been using now. Lol

This model has Intel HD Graphics 4000 which can run most moderate end games as of now (till GTA IV), also 8 GB RAM and 3320m should be a good combo. I'm also planning to get this model and most of my work is Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects, and after rigorous research and testing, I can safely say this machine will do your job!

For that sort of stuff yeah it would do fine, do expect 1080p video to push it, same goes for 60 FPS content. Otherwise for daily use stuff it should be good
I bought this laptop recently. I’m very happy with it. However, it comes with a three prong power cord that can plug into a wall socket...I’ve looked at all the ports on the laptop; none of them seem to fit the three prongs. Can you possibly tell me where it would fit on the laptop. Thank you!
You’re missing the other half of the charger it seems, I have it and the three prongs go into another wire that has a box and then that end goes into the laptop to charge it

Agree with everyone, these laptops are an overpriced piece of art, besides they are built like a war tank, they work hard and are tireless. I know one game would be Grand Theft Auto online, definitely would struggle there in general. I think the biggest hurdle though is the 1gb of vram. But aside from that I’m not entirely sure what this thing is limited by other than no directx 12.

And even when i only have discord open it crashes sometimes. Lags arent rare. And there is only a very less games i can play. not even CS works that well. I have random black "clouds" in the middle of the map. I think its an graphic bug. Its very very bad for gaming (frozen screens) even tho i use a laptop cooler. Browsing works fine. Its okay for writing and email or watching neflix or youtube. Sometimes it says ram is full (idk how to say it in english) and it starts lagging a lot. Dude that laptop's SSD is obviously failing. Why even try and install Ubuntu and risk anything going wrong down the line? Other than that, great review. I also have an E6430. 2.8ghz (i5-3360m) / 16GB Crucial DDR3 RAM / 2TB Crucial SSD ... zero wait time, boots from off to desktop in 20 seconds. PRO TIP: THESE BABIES RUN HOTT!! Use software like Core Temp to monitor your computer's temperature so it doesn't die in the heat. MOST of these computers die one day after they've been cooked and they're just gone. The trick is to keep them simmering for a very long time. Don't push the throttle insanely like I do when I record my music, loading 25 individual STEMS through Ableton or Pro Tools and requesting 128 sample per second recording. People don't realize how capable these systems are. THAT IS RIDICULOUSLY good PC recording. So good in fact, that I charge by the hour. Yes I have a home audio recording studio and my PC is the center of it all. But take it from me - treat the laptop with respect and it will last you a little while longer. These things are just built hot and eventually cook themselves its just the way it be sometimes....

Maybe with some additional modding, like OptiFine, it might run okay. I’m no Minecraft expert though, and this is by no means a gaming laptop despite the nvidia graphics, so I would still recommend you look towards something more gaming focused with proper GeForce graphics or Radeon Graphics if you can.
@@yz2062 Maybe it's time to format and reinstall windows with a SSD drive ...mine is a i7 2 core running at 3ghz and is lighting fast on win 10 pro with a SSD....i think they did a 2.6 i7 as well that had 8 threads but ran the battery dowb to fast...sounds like your i5 needs a format and fresh windows on a SSD most do...even before with a 380g mechanical drive on win 10 mine was fast...

Personally I think that kind of machine is a little excessive for the use-case you would intend it for. If I were you looking for something in that regard, try to find a newer model Latitude *without* the discrete graphics as you will not only have a more reliable machine (these are known for running hot with discrete graphics), but one with more features and potentially better performance, battery life, reliability, etc. However, if you're set on a machine like this, it's not a bad machine, and hopefully the price you're buying at is under $200 as any higher and it is not really worth it. It's not a bad machine but it is from 2012 and they are starting to show their age in some aspects, especially in price to performance comparisons.
i had one of these and i really hated it i had the core i5 one of these well i still do and its great fast and all but i bought a core i7 like this one with the webcam but i did not have it long as i hated it completely always ran really hot as the core i7 plus the fanc on the laptop were on flat out all the time i did not see much difference with speed compared with my core i5 plus anyways i cleaned out the fan on the core i7 and put on new cpu paste but still did not stop the laptop running hot .it always nearly burn my legs as because of the bottom pannel was metal .reall junk this laptop not good one bit
I own one of these and let me tell you it is slow asf it overheats fast takes 15 minutes to open and I tried reseting it it was working fine so I installed zoom and it's broken again so if you ever need an online class computer pls don't choose this

@@laurenshaw4123 Dont get it when u wanna play games. Trust me. Earlier (like a year ago) i was at least able to listen to spotify while playing league. And even when i only have discord open it crashes sometimes. Lags arent rare. And there is only a very less games i can play. not even CS works that well. I have random black "clouds" in the middle of the map. I think its an graphic bug. Its very very bad for gaming (frozen screens) even tho i use a laptop cooler. Browsing works fine. Its okay for writing and email or watching neflix or youtube. Sometimes it says ram is full (idk how to say it in english) and it starts lagging a lot. I mean... this laptop is lile 9 years old or so. You will recognise it

Dude that laptop's SSD is obviously failing. Why even try and install Ubuntu and risk anything going wrong down the line? Other than that, great review. I also have an E6430. 2.8ghz (i5-3360m) / 16GB Crucial DDR3 RAM / 2TB Crucial SSD ... zero wait time, boots from off to desktop in 20 seconds. PRO TIP: THESE BABIES RUN HOTT!! Use software like Core Temp to monitor your computer's temperature so it doesn't die in the heat. MOST of these computers die one day after they've been cooked and they're just gone. The trick is to keep them simmering for a very long time. Don't push the throttle insanely like I do when I record my music, loading 25 individual STEMS through Ableton or Pro Tools and requesting 128 sample per second recording. People don't realize how capable these systems are. THAT IS RIDICULOUSLY good PC recording.
So good in fact, that I charge by the hour. Yes I have a home audio recording studio and my PC is the center of it all.
But take it from me - treat the laptop with respect and it will last you a little while longer. These things are just built hot and eventually cook themselves its just the way it be sometimes....

Maybe with some additional modding, like OptiFine, it might run okay. I’m no Minecraft expert though, and this is by no means a gaming laptop despite the nvidia graphics, so I would still recommend you look towards something more gaming focused with proper GeForce graphics or Radeon Graphics if you can.

@@yz2062 Maybe it's time to format and reinstall windows with a SSD drive ...mine is a i7 2 core running at 3ghz and is lighting fast on win 10 pro with a SSD....i think they did a 2.6 i7 as well that had 8 threads but ran the battery dowb to fast...sounds like your i5 needs a format and fresh windows on a SSD most do...even before with a 380g mechanical drive on win 10 mine was fast...

Personally I think that kind of machine is a little excessive for the use-case you would intend it for. If I were you looking for something in that regard, try to find a newer model Latitude *without* the discrete graphics as you will not only have a more reliable machine (these are known for running hot with discrete graphics), but one with more features and potentially better performance, battery life, reliability, etc. However, if you're set on a machine like this, it's not a bad machine, and hopefully the price you're buying at is under $200 as any higher and it is not really worth it. It's not a bad machine but it is from 2012 and they are starting to show their age in some aspects, especially in price to performance comparisons.
This is probably late but that's overkill for what you need, the battery life will probably suck though.
Are these good for video editing?
I'd say 1080p would be easily do-able, so long as you have hardware acceleration enabled (if applicable) for your video editor of choice

i had one of these and i really hated it i had the core i5 one of these well i still do and its great fast and all but i bought a core i7 like this one with the webcam but i did not have it long as i hated it completely always ran really hot as the core i7 plus the fanc on the laptop were on flat out all the time i did not see much difference with speed compared with my core i5 plus anyways i cleaned out the fan on the core i7 and put on new cpu paste but still did not stop the laptop running hot .it always nearly burn my legs as because of the bottom pannel was metal .reall junk this laptop not good one bit

I own one of these and let me tell you it is slow asf it overheats fast takes 15 minutes to open and I tried reseting it it was working fine so I installed zoom and it's broken again so if you ever need an online class computer pls don't choose this
