Yes, it is. I upgraded the HDD to an SSD, removed DVD and installed 2nd HDD Bay, I upgraded to 8GB RAM, installed the illuminated keyboard, added a 2 3,0 USB port card which is flush and I am waiting on the i7 2720QM, I bought this machine for 120 bucks, the SSD was 40, the ram was 40, the BAY was 15 and the usb 3.0 was 20 bucks, the processor was 40 I already had a 1TB HDD, this all adds a total of 275(plus the 20DLLS back lit keyboard, but I don't count that since it was a choice) for a laptop that is maxed out in specs(except for the ram) I chose this specific model because it was a Common Access Card reader, and I use that on a daily basis aaaaand I just didn't feel like carrying a USB one. --Overall, I love my choices with this laptop, and it is also pretty sturdy!, the material it's made with makes it easy to clean and barely gets scratched for the type of environment I work in, I don't play video games in it other than GTA SA with medium/high, or nfsmw along with the basic N64 and PS1 emulators(not a big gamer per say) and it runs like a charm. I love this laptop!
I upgraded the HDD to an SSD (500Gb Wester Digital) removed DVD and installed 2nd HDD Bay (1Tb), and upgraded to 16Gb RAM... i think this machine is excelent
I have the Latitude E6430 Specs: CPU: Intel i7 3540m RAM: 16gb DDR3 SSD: Crucial 240gb Overall, I would say this is one of the best sub-$100 dollar laptops you can get. With fully maxed out specs like mine everything runs super smooth.
Love my 6430. Have had it for at least 6 years now. i5 w/ 8gb ram, SSD, Nvidia graphics. Never skips a beat. I’m currently using it for video editing. I usually keep it home now and use a Surface Go when “on the go.” No pun intended. I use a newer Latitude for work. It. It nearly as sturdy as the 6430. I cracked the case on my work one in less than a year!
I am on one of these machines right now and let me say, i love it! It works great for web browsing and getting quick work done. Its even got white lights below the keys so if you are working at night or in the dark you can turn those on.
I had this laptop long ago and do miss it greatly. Was easy to get into and upgrade everything, even someone who doenst know too much about computer and had help. They just dont make laptops like they used to, i miss good old dvd drives installed into old laptops like this.
I picked one of these up with a busted screen, ripped it out of the case, sandwiched it between some acrylic, and mounted it on the back of an old 32 inch TV. This, a little Rii i8 wireless keyboard, and a pair of Bluetooth game controllers made for a pretty usable HTPC/Emulation Station for the kids room.
I’ve got a love/hate with this thing and have for over a decade.. My mom sucked at presents and had actually ruined a laptop I gave her to use but I didn’t mention it.. just internally died a little. Anyways, she got me a top spec’d E6420 from this IT kid that was always at her local Starbucks. I guess she told him my luck and dude sold her it for $300 in 2011.. just for reference it retailed for about $2500 Maxed out Core i7, 16gb ram, 256gb SSD and that Magnesium chassis was just amazing. I adored this computer. It started overheating about two years in when fan died. So I bought a replacement that had the heat pipes attached and that got me another almost ten years. I even fell in love and when me and her moved into our first place and had no TV, we cuddled up next to our Dell and watched DVDs and streamed. This machine got me through some of the best years of my life. I still have it even though go it hasn’t even turned on in a year. My mom passed away last month and that girlfriend and me didn’t last unfortunately.. but I still have this piece of hardware with so many memories and what it did for me I can’t really describe well. Going inside it was fun, it was cram packed but this was the business-class XPS 13” way before they ever had that idea. I have to say it though, quite possibly the worst screen and speakers I’ve ever heard on any laptop, let alone one that was worth over $2k when I got it. The screen can work if you don’t view to off-angle.. but the speakers are not usable for anything, we he a cheap 2.1 Logitech setup we’d plug into. If I could sum it up in one (poorly) written sentence: the XPS before the XPS was ever even an idea.
Lol yup. Excellent summary. It’s the machine that I recommended to parents when the lockdown happened. When bought used, it’s cheap and reliable. It helped push Dell into being trusted by big companies
Just bought one for $70, comes with 8GB Ram, win 7 & win 10 dual boot, and a Chinese Software Q9 input system. Works great, good for web browsing and light games. If opened more than 4-5 apps, machine runs slow.
I have owned Latitude series laptops for years. Since the D series. Well built computers. My e6420 and e6440 both have dedicated graphics and high resolution displays and while I bought them to run Linux, Windows 10 wouldn't be out of the question. Plenty of power.
yup, performs well with Win10 but imo if you gonna go with Win10 you can't do as much heavy stuff that you can do with say a Win7 because Win10 take a chunk of that horsepower
@Mohammad Javad Monjezi This is why it's extremely important to rid Windows 10 of bloat.. and background services. It can be done but it's time consuming and not exactly straightforward. Microsoft made it tough to rid it's operating system of what it sees as valuable resources. Meanwhile with all this bloat Windows 10 isn't nearly as efficient as Windows 7. Especially a well oiled installation.
Writing this on one at the time of watching this, got mine for $20, upgraded to 16gb ram, 128gb ssd, removed dvd tray and put 1tb hdd in place. Currently running tiny 11 as the OS. Next is getting a i7-2920xm. love this old machine.
I buy a similar machine one month ago for a bit more money (270 EURO). But with an i7 2620M 2.7GHz, 8 GB DDR3 DRAM, 1600x900 and a 240GB SSD. The laptop is in a very good condition except the battery with 37% weakness. The keyboard is very useable I find. For me a good envestment. Last but not least thanx for the video :) Regards Jürgen
This laptop got me through college - I got an 120 GB SSD for it as a gift, and the laptop itself was $30 at a thrift store. I've replaced the battery twice. Its still works good :). I got in 2017. The SSD makes a huge difference with Windows 10
@@venzcamerz well the ssd was from Amazon for $20 the laptop was from savers which is a thrift store for $30. The only thing it needed at the time was a new battery which I bought from eBay. I added the ssd later
I bought one off E-Bay for my birthday, from me to me, because I can, and my large Toshiba laptop has a big black "Smudge" or two on it, and, I just needed another one. I have a smaller Dell that cannot be upgradable(memory-wise) but if this one can, that will be a big deal for me. I should get it on or a day before or a day after my B-day(June 12)
I’ve put in 1 ssd and it takes no more than 4 seconds to boot. I edit 4K 10 bit video from my gh5 in premiere pro with it. It’s amazing. I’ll add 8gb of ram more to have 16 in total , a second ssd and an external Gpu...and he’ll yeahhh
I bought the 6420 with the i7. The U sku's for its era whether it was an i5 or i7 were all just 2 core 4 hyper threads of an i3 architecture.
I'm looking at one on ebay for $200. 1 TB HDD, 8 gb RAM, i7, I definitely like the disc drive, but is it fast, or should I get a Ryzen 3 with half or less the specs and an SSD with only 128 GB? I may need a lot of space for big downloads (1-16gb) ideally fast, and also I plan to edit videos/photos using adobe (more big programs). Ryzen 3 looks cool as if I ever want to game, but the specs put me off as I owned a 128 gb computer with bloatware preventing from even doing an 8 gb download, also missing a disc drive (I'll just buy an external one I guess). I'm just discovering SSD, and 128 SSD seems to be the common (maximum?) standard, which seem to boot and process things faster.
I put Firecuda disks in mine. They have enough SSD inside. Mounted a nice backlit keyboard a few days ago. I ran a few games on it, but it is used mostly as an internet / video watching / audio recording device on Pop-os and Windows 10 with VMware. Pop-os fixed some issue with stereo recording and Windows got a bit useless there except for keeping the VMs functional. It's too much work to change that to Qemu /KVM.
I bought it used in 2015 still pumping and i’m a developer lots VMs Xcode android studio etc.etc. and the thing just works…. Couple of times dropped it on concrete but the thing just keeps working
I bought me a used Dell E6430 with 3rd gen i5, SSD, for about US$250 and put Ubuntu on it. It's a nice keyboard but the trackpad is a bit lame (I'm used to really good ones on work laptops). If you just want to do a bit of mucking around, with lots of ports and optical drive, this series is perfect.
I own this laptop even in 2024 and I must say it’s a really good laptop The built quality is really great but what I hate about this laptop is it has no inbuilt Bluetooth and it’s kind of too heavy for me😂 but I love this laptop Cheers guys❤
Interesting video. I do have to say though the gaming comment is a bit off to me. The E line are like Dell's Thinkpad. So an office computer never intended for gaming even when brand new. And just a suggestion for anyone looking at one. If you put linux on it you probably could make it a daily driver again easy. I know this is kind of a collection of random comments but I also find it kind of nuts that 720p is now considered "low res". lol
Bought mine last 2017, secondhand, modified 8gb RAM. Still works fine to this day aside from battery, keyboard, and speaker issues. Probably the best buy I ever had, also, dont forget to overclock your CPU for better performance.
I've had one since new in 2011. It's dare I say........perfect Touch screen a/b/g/n wireless Usb 3.0 expansion card Backlit keyboard 8gigs of ram 256gig sata hard drive Actually it's not perfect, the speakers could be better
I've heard in the first part of the video that you update your BIOS from A25 to A26, is the A26 really compatible to e6420? I saw in the dell website that the A26 compatibility is for e6420 ATG and XFR only. If its compatible to ordinary e6420 i want to give it a try. Thank you.
Hello, can I ask you an advise? Currently im thinking of buying this pc, and there are 2 models, the first one is with the 1600x900 res, the second one has 1366x768, which res should be better? (For studies, writting, reading, movies). Thanks
the 1600x900 will be clearer with more pixels. But if you're using it for school work when you are at home, I would suggest a external monitor for less eye strain. And perhaps a external keyboard and mouse too
I have one of these and its great once you upgrade it to 8gigs ram, it still runs an old 500gb hdd, i5 2540m? (I cant remember), 2 graphics processors igpu and nvidia nvs 4200m (512mb vram), its pretty good for the few games I would like to play and it was given to me for free which was very nice of the owners considering it was $300 at best buy.
@@nono-oz4gv Well, in that case, having just bought a couple of i7 6420s, I'll put off that upgrade and look into the 16GB RAM upgrade that some have reported.
@@jezz2k (that was a quick short reply because I was doing something.) I Don't know how it exactly works but I'm assuming dell blocked off the Integrated GPU on the original Win10 OS, but after I reinstalled Windows it either auto installed the IGPU driver or I had to manually, I can't really remember what I did exactly. Weird stuff. I played Team Fortress 2 and got less FPS on the NVS, no wonder why they removed the NVS from the newer models. The i7's might overheat quite a bit if you have the NVS, but without the NVS you don't overheat you just get mildly warm (mildly warm for a laptop).
Buying one this week for 60$ seems in good conditions, 4gbs of ram with an intel i3 and a 500hdd. Is this laptop good enough for basic programs like excell?

it can be a bit slow. You can get a nicer machine for $100 more. Check to see if it has a SSD as a hard drive though. A SSD is much faster than a regular hard drive.

Yes that’s USD I can afford a little high price too. But just need a nice laptop, which can run softwares like autocads and useful in mechanical engg...
That’s funny. I was just making my new video about the 8470p. It’s sitting on my lap as I type this. The HP is heavy and the keyboard isn’t as comfortable but it’s faster than the Dell. Maybe look around for a Dell E5440 if it’s in your budget.
probably buy this second hand today for around 100 bucks, I think its a decent machine on paper as it is but I'm gonna tweak it a bit, more RAM and bigger HDD and downgrade it from Win10 to 7 so it be lighter the one that I'm going to buy apparently has a extra Nvidia GPU with 512 MB of memory, don't know the model yet but that sounds good
I bought it, the guy was good, he changed a few things for a bit of extra cost, all of things that I had in mind to do myself later now its: a brand new 500 GB of WD Blue HDD 8 GB DDR3L (PC3L) RAM plus the model that I got is one of those that has both Intel HD Graphic and a 512 MB Nvidia GPU so thats really nice the outside looks a bit beat up and scratched but it performs well the only bummer was that mine has a Intel core i5 2520M instead of 2540M which is 0.1 GH slower than 2540M's 2.6 GHz + I think unlike 2540M this model is not able to overclock itself to above 3 GHz (3.1 or 3.2 can't remember correctly) which was a real shame... got the laptop for 95 bucks and honestly all things considered I think it was a good deal/purchase
I run this model for years (7-8?) It been upgraded and fixed several times, keyboard, battery, ram 16, and today im looking for new ssd and battery, next step maybe cpu. And way of thinking is Ubuntu. I can say after years: its a good machine.
[READ PLEASE] I am getting the same one like this but it has 16gb ram and 1tb ssd & Intel core i5 Do u know if I can run sims 4 or gta 4? Or can I run a couple of games?? *It's more expensive than this but I can pay it*
I don't think that it will run GTA IV but it should run Sims 4. 16GB ram and a 1TB SSD are nice. Though if I were you , I would look around for a HP 8570 i7. It has a more robust GPU built in. How much is the e6420 and which country are you in?

It all makes sense to me. I put Linux on most of my machines. It’s in my x240 right now. And I have a few other videos about it in the queue
still relevan in 2020..i run macos on it smoothly
I have this laptop but with a funger print reader not working..how to make it work?
Same problem bro
I got this for free from work, still works great with built-in 2011 nvidia, 512mb
Also my native res is 1600x900
would this be a good to run games through steam? specifically fallout 3?
how can I replace the optical drive with secondary battery? need help.
Is this good for rendering and modeling software?
Bought mine last 2017, secondhand, modified 8gb RAM. Still works fine to this day aside from battery, keyboard, and speaker issues. Probably the best buy I ever had, also, dont forget to overclock your CPU for better performance.
I just bought another one for a relative of mine. It’s such a great deal.
How much it can overclock?
@@dom5916 3.4 ghz

In about a month I’m getting this except it has 8gb ram and some other upgrades eg hdd ssd. How will it run for light gaming eg minecraft
It should run Minecraft okay. not too sure about the framerate but that SSD will help
It should run Minecraft at acceptable frame rates, but don't expect 120+ fps
Which SSD is compatible with this laptop? Could you give a link or name?
Any 2.5” sata will work.
Gta 4 .. Mafia2.. Sleeping dogs.. These games smoothly work on this machine
I've had one since new in 2011. It's dare I say........perfect
Touch screen
a/b/g/n wireless
Usb 3.0 expansion card
Backlit keyboard
8gigs of ram
256gig sata hard drive
Actually it's not perfect, the speakers could be better
I have one but I upgraded to windows 10 and now Bluetooth and wifi not working
It can get 24hours with a 9cell main battery, 9cell dock battery and 3 cell expansion battery
I've heard in the first part of the video that you update your BIOS from A25 to A26, is the A26 really compatible to e6420? I saw in the dell website that the A26 compatibility is for e6420 ATG and XFR only. If its compatible to ordinary e6420 i want to give it a try. Thank you.
I used the dell support assistant and it handles the updates. So if the software did the update then o guess it must be compatible
Yes sir, why did i think it first ha ha? It makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the quick response. Thanks a lot.
Hello , i too have normal e6420 , were you able to upgrade bios successfully ? Thanks
Just wanna confirm if Dell got the center button removed in later versions?
Hello, can I ask you an advise? Currently im thinking of buying this pc, and there are 2 models, the first one is with the 1600x900 res, the second one has 1366x768, which res should be better? (For studies, writting, reading, movies). Thanks
the 1600x900 will be clearer with more pixels. But if you're using it for school work when you are at home, I would suggest a external monitor for less eye strain. And perhaps a external keyboard and mouse too
This guy is love
Hey do you know any laptops in the price range of $100-$200 that will be good for doing digital art?? (Like hooking a wacom to it and drawing)
A friend of mine does that with a Lenovo T430s. It should be under $200
Do you think this laptop will handle minecraft?
It would be laggy. Maybe if it was an i7 but the i5 can’t
The NVIDIA NVS was an upgrade option. I doubt if Dell still offer it.
The nvs is actually worse than the igpu
Little bit of an information dump incase you need it.
Buying one this week for 60$ seems in good conditions, 4gbs of ram with an intel i3 and a 500hdd. Is this laptop good enough for basic programs like excell?
Yeah it can run that. I’d invest in a SSD and a fresh OS install though
@@MikeDancy it's got windows 10 pro installed. I just need an ssd i agree.
But i found one for 30$ 128gb, should be good enough for what i need it for Hopefully
lol u said if they 60 to 65... I am 68 and my first computer was tape drive and I would laugh because i have been told many of times that people my aged no nothing about these things like I do but surprise I am a guru at it...But that just me I will never be stuck n time ..... Nice video !!
Is this laptop good for online teaching ? I am thinking of buying one ...thanks !
it can be a bit slow. You can get a nicer machine for $100 more. Check to see if it has a SSD as a hard drive though. A SSD is much faster than a regular hard drive.
@@MikeDancy ttnx mike! Which laptop would u then recommend? I am willing to spend around $ 250 -300.
So this is a good all around use laptop when fully maxed out, and you can upgrade it
it might be okay as a school computer or for browsing etc. but it's no powerhouse. It definitely needs a SSD and at least 8GB of ram.
Is this laptop good for ArcGis?
Is the gpu upgradable?
how to turn back light keyboard
i bought mine for 389.00$ for gaming but i still havemy doubts if its good or not for gaming
it is a dell latitude
windows 10 2.70 ghz
intel core i5 16 GB
1TB PC, WEB CAM
I THINK MY SHITTY ACER LAPTOP
RUNS GAMES BETTER THAN
THE LATITUDE
my shitty one i have many games that i can run in high graphics
the dell latitude hasnt arrived yet i hope it was worth every cent
when it arrives.
Can you pls say ..if there is any problems in the laptop..since i want to buy a secondhand ..laptop
It’s a great laptop if the price is right. I just donated two of them to a school
Is it good for graphics design????
Nope. Not really. Maybe the I7 version can run GIMP but it won’t work well with illustrator
Hello sir, is the processor upgradeable? To i7?
sorry but I don't know for sure. I never tried it.
is this laptop good for video editing and video editing software , i want to use it for that
Probably not. It’s an older machine and it won’t be able to handle DaVinci resolve or adobe premiere.
this guy i like when say this guy . this guy is cool and lapper topper
Can this run Autocad smoothly? Especially the newer versions of Autocad? Need for school. Pls reply ASAP. School starts next week. Thank you!
I would say no. Try a dell precision or goto reddit /r/autocad
i got it from amazon with 250$ its great
Sorry between the core i5 and the core i7 which one runs football manager better?
What’s a football manager?
i7 and 8gb is better for Football manager
por que en mi maldito pais vale 110 dolares con la pantalla rota???!!
#ask! still worth in 2020??
I think so. I made another video with the e6420 but haven't posted it yet. I just built one for a relative and with a SSD and 8GB ram, it worked just fine.
2024 any?
its a good laptop with a i7 i have the i7 2620M in mine ssd already 8 go of ram and the mvs 4200M the 720p panel is trash very bad i have buy online a new one the hd+ version i am going to upgrade the cpu to a i7 2860QM too put a 2nd hardrive in the dvd tray
I’m leaning towards buying a 6230 next. I like the small screen

I will be thankful
Is that USD funds? You can never go wrong with a Lenovo T430s or a x220 for that price. It’s a great laptop. Invest in a SSD hard drive
Yes that’s USD I can afford a little high price too. But just need a nice laptop, which can run softwares like autocads and useful in mechanical engg...
The dell m6800 is good for AutoCAD but it’s big and heavy. Look it up
I Can't decide between this and the hp elitebook 8470p, any suggestion?
That’s funny. I was just making my new video about the 8470p. It’s sitting on my lap as I type this. The HP is heavy and the keyboard isn’t as comfortable but it’s faster than the Dell. Maybe look around for a Dell E5440 if it’s in your budget.
I made a video about the 8470p here: ua-cam.com/video/BjomNe10UB0/v-deo.html
probably buy this second hand today for around 100 bucks, I think its a decent machine on paper as it is but I'm gonna tweak it a bit, more RAM and bigger HDD and downgrade it from Win10 to 7 so it be lighter
the one that I'm going to buy apparently has a extra Nvidia GPU with 512 MB of memory, don't know the model yet but that sounds good
Why not go with a lite linux?
@@MikeDancy because I also intend to play old games on it and gaming on Linux sucks ass lol
I bought it, the guy was good, he changed a few things for a bit of extra cost, all of things that I had in mind to do myself later
now its:
a brand new 500 GB of WD Blue HDD
8 GB DDR3L (PC3L) RAM
plus the model that I got is one of those that has both Intel HD Graphic and a 512 MB Nvidia GPU so thats really nice
the outside looks a bit beat up and scratched but it performs well
the only bummer was that mine has a Intel core i5 2520M instead of 2540M which is 0.1 GH slower than 2540M's 2.6 GHz + I think unlike 2540M this model is not able to overclock itself to above 3 GHz (3.1 or 3.2 can't remember correctly) which was a real shame...
got the laptop for 95 bucks and honestly all things considered I think it was a good deal/purchase
Linux can run Steam. Unless you're goign to just use it for Wordle, then you need windows
I run this model for years (7-8?) It been upgraded and fixed several times, keyboard, battery, ram 16, and today im looking for new ssd and battery, next step maybe cpu. And way of thinking is Ubuntu. I can say after years: its a good machine.

I am getting the same one like this but it has 16gb ram and 1tb ssd & Intel core i5
Do u know if I can run sims 4 or gta 4? Or can I run a couple of games??
*It's more expensive than this but I can pay it*
I don't think that it will run GTA IV but it should run Sims 4. 16GB ram and a 1TB SSD are nice. Though if I were you , I would look around for a HP 8570 i7. It has a more robust GPU built in. How much is the e6420 and which country are you in?
@@MikeDancy it's $400 in america
Can we play pubg on it??
I have 4 gb of ram can I upgrade my ram and what's the max amount ?
here, let me google that for you.... google.com -> max ram for e6420 = answer is 8GB. Now that will be $5 thanks

can it play game oldies like roller coaster tycoon2, age of empires 2 and sim city 3000? emulators/roms too?
Probably. But I can’t see it playing GTA5
