    Andrew, I have been agonizing at which Keyboard I should stay with. I have a hybrid setup, Kurzweil K2500, Montage 8, Roland XV5080, and of course Ableton Live 11 with Komplete and kontrol sounds. I was trying to determine if I should sell my K2500, and replace with the K2700. However, you have convinced me here to stick with the Montage 8. The sounds on the K2500 are good Kurzweil sounds, but the 2700 isn't over and above the Montage 8....therefore why add to what I already have. Your video proved that I was a knucklehead, not recognizing the power of the Montage. I think that I will stick with the current setup, unless of course you have a compelling reason for me to change out the K2500 and add the K2700. Felt it is throwing money against a "not so material" outcome. Thanks for this, and smooth playing my man, very smooth.

    Bro, we were just talking about this Wednesday. Love the montage, played with the motif at church then we got a kronos then went back to yamaha. Got rid of the kronos, kronos is way to much digging into to get the pianos to sound the way you want it and then the polyphony was killing me. Sounds would cut off since i layer a few sounds at a time. The polyphony and key feel is waaaaaaay better on the montage.

    Montage is a great synthesizer. I have the Modx7 and it has the same sound engines. However I don’t like Yamaha’s “Seamless Sound Switching” because in scenes you can only do 4 sounds to seamless switch and sometimes it jumps the sound volume when switching. I like how Roland and Korea does Seamless Sound Switching. It just work no matter what sounds you are using and up to 16 per scene.

    Are the keys weighted on the Montage, or is it a synth action? Your playing brings out a lot from the instrument. The ensemble strings are the some of the best I've heard. I think you will find your strings will sound more authentic with less voices in your chords. Try to force yourself to play with just 3 voices and find the best altered voicings with just the 3. I'm not saying play just triads, but complex chords wiith limited voices. You will discover the most important notes. Unfortunately your video recording is slightly over modulated and the dynamics of the touch settings on the board are also somewhat excessive. Nevertheless, the Montage is a great sounding synth, and you do play very well.

      1. They are not graded keys. They are balanced. Each note has the same resistance as all the other notes.This is not like a piano in which the resistance decreases from left to right.
      2. The Montage has 5 variations of velocity curves. Normal, soft, hard and wide. Oh yeah, then there is fixed. And there is offset of each of these curves as well.
      3.No (Piano) string resonance adjustment on the montage as only samples are there. Wish they brought out in the efx sections though. Many brands have done it. Roland's pianos use modelling technology which helps to give more control of the sound. Yamaha also have the tech (SCM) but have not implemented it in the Montage.
      4. No Ivory/Ebony feel. Plastic to say the least, but they feel amazing.
      5. No wooden keys, if you want that from Yamaha go for their CP-88 keyboard. Montage is meant to be an all round keyboard with good sounds and immediate playability. The Balanced Hammer Action is great for piano playing without compromising the playability of other sounds (synth leads, brass, string sections, solo instruments).
      6. Montage can layer up to 16 sounds. But only 8 of them work under the local keyboard. Which means for numbers 9-16, you need a midi controller or you can only use them in a sequence for the extra parts. So in a real world scenario, 8.

    I had a motif xf8 sold it during covid hard times for $2500 what a steal this dude got. I can only imagine the sounds that come out of this one. One day I'll own it. Yamaha is pretty solid on their prices, I watched the motif xf8 for 5 years and the price never went down, and one day I bit the bullet lol. Hands down best keyboard I ever touched. Good piano playing btw.

      @@AndrewMcKain I picked up a second hand Montage about a year ago for 1800$ it was a Montage 6, oh boy what a beast this has been to learn, it's deeply complex. But today in hindsight it has been the best synth purchase I ever did. I have all kinds of synths, Korgs, Rolands, etc. Nothing even comes close to the "power" of the sound that Montage have. Also the keybed of the montage is nothing less than legendary, it has this special feel about it that is so comfortable to play on.

    I WOLD LIKE TO KNOW, WHAT IS THAT DEVICE, WHERE-I SUPPOSE- THE MICROPHONE IS PLUGED. I HAD A MODX AND AS I KNOW THE MONTAGE HAS GOOD POSSIBILITY TO PLUG IN MICROPHPONE. I WAS USEING A TC HELICON EXTREME TO SING AND PLAY WITH THE MODX. MAYBE IF I WILL HAVE THE MONTAGE, THIS WILL RESOLVE AND SIMPLIFY TO RECORD SINGING AND PLAYING. I WILL CHECK OPINIONS ABOUT THE SINGING POSSIBILITIES AND RECORD AND ABOUT THE DIRECT PLUGGED MIC. I THINK IN THE MONTAGE ARE MANY POSSIBILLITIES TO COLOR AND SET THE VOICE.
    THE DEMONSTRATION IS WERY USEFUL AND UNDERSTENDABLE IN THIS VIDEO. ALSO THE PLAYING DEMONSTRATES VERY REAL THE QUALITY OF THE INSTRUMENT.

    Thanks for this Video. I have a montage 8 and almost sold it for the Nord stage 3 which is nice in certain areas. I was having upright piano fever. I went to the music store to play the 88 Key version. After playing for a while I realize I like my montage better.. especially the keybed, strings and synth. I only miss the upright pianos in which I probably can add keyscape to fill that void.

    Hey Andrew! You play so good, you got that musician's touch! I've played a MODX at the music store and it's something else, interestingly I also came from a Casio CT-390. 😂😂😂
    Let me ask you though, do you feel you are missing anything in this keyboard? I've seen some people on forums complain that this board is missing a VA synth engine, like the Roland or Korg. I know gospel musicians love the Roland for the synth sounds (Hugo bass, J-Pop Brass), so do you think you are missing those sounds (or the ability to create those sounds) on the Yamaha? Or do you use alternatives (Roland Cloud, an actual Roland synth keyboard, Korg etc) to cover those sounds, or program them in FMX (if you do that's impressive, people complain about FM programming too, lol). Or maybe the ones on the board are good enough?

    • @AndrewMcKain
      @AndrewMcKain  2 роки тому +2

      Hey bro!! Thanks for checking out the video! So the Montage/MODX has a lot of really great sounds but there’s definitely some different sounds that it would be nice if they had originally on the board. But since I first got a MODX I’ve found so many different sound packs where I have pretty much every sound I want on there now. Like I have a pack with Hugo Bass, there’s people that have sampled the Roland MK-80 and MKS sounds. So even though other keyboards might have more capabilities, the Montage does everything I need it to do and the ability to add extra sounds makes it even better

    • @tonylancer7367
      @tonylancer7367 2 роки тому

      @@AndrewMcKain Bro! Thank you for replying! Wow, I had to read your comment maybe more than twice just to take in that the MODX is a very capable machine. I just thought that I would struggle to make very nice synth sounds like on the Roland or Korg boards because Yamaha doesn't have a VA synth engine in the Montage/MODX.
      BTW, where did you get the Hugo Bass pack? Did you sample it yourself, or are you playing it from I'm guessing MKSensation?

    • @AndrewMcKain
      @AndrewMcKain  2 роки тому +1

      @@tonylancer7367 I got the Hugo Bass from an ES soundpack that somebody made, I have to look for which one. Most of the sounds that I have, including the Roland ones, are from a guy named Adrian Charras on UA-cam. If you search him, he samples a lot of sounds and gives a lot of them away free
