Welcome to my home town ;-)
    Regarding the legroom:
The position of the seat itself is adjustable too, between a short set (vertical sitting position) and a longer seat with a more hanging-around taking-a-nap position. Maybe the seat was in the latter position and you didn't realized the adjustability.
I agree though on that there could be a bit more distance between the seats.
Btw., those EuroCity trains are from the 1990ies or so and they are scheduled to be replaced on the Munich/Innsbruck/Verona line by brand-new 2nd generation RailJet trains starting December of 2023.

Thanks for posting. My best experience: I seem to have fallen in love with the Austrian Railjet. Last year I travelled in one from Salzburg to Wien in second class and from Venice to Villach in first class. Awefully beautifull and comfortable train, super service. The train you post here will see me later this year, its sister I mean, the EC83. The EC81 leaves Innsbruck 8 minutes after the arrival of the Nightjet from Amsterdam and the 8 min interval seems not a good idea.... So your video is quite informative for me. Thanks again!

I travelled on the exact same train at the end of October 2022. I'm not sure from where the train train originates, but it was rammed when I got on at Innsbruck. I'd reserved a seat in 1st Class, but it was occupied. Train staff were conspicuous by their absence and I had to throw a hissy fit to get my seat. There was no restaurant car and no trolley service. Luckily I'd stocked up on enough water and food at Innsbruck to keep me going until Bologna. Once I was settled, it was a lovely ride.

The Brenner Pass's days are numbered as a bypass tunnel is being built right now to reduce travel time. Even more reason to take the trip soon.
And Bologna is an underrated destination. Being the culinary capital of Italy, it is especially a paradise for meat lovers. I've been there few months ago and ate the best lasagna ever in my life. It also is abundant in terms of sightseeing (it has twin leaning towers which outdates the more famous one in Pisa).

My suggestion for a scenic route is the REX3 from Salzburg to Wörgl - sure, it's a bit slower then a Railjet or EC, but it's worth the time with all the nice regions passed (Zell am See, Kitzbühel and some other places) - I've taken this train to Kitzbühel a few times now and it's always great. Only negative thing is that this train is going every 2 hours, so if you miss one, you have to wait 2 hours to get the next one.
Right now I'm looking for a daytrip connection from Salzburg to Vienna (Wien) and the best ones are a Nightjet starting at 4.33 am from Salzburg for 14.90€ and going back with another nightjet at 7.46 pm or 9.27 pm from Vienna for also 14.90€ - almost 30€ for both ways and enough time to explore the city without a hotel stay (I live in Salzburg)
yesterday I've seen the new generation of Nightjets on a sidetrack parked at Salzburg main station. It has the same frame as the new Railjet but the front car looks like a Siemens Vectron locomotive, not like the Siemens Taurus (1116/1216) on the actual Railjets. (the new Railjet was parked here also a week ago)

Nonstop Eurotrip isn't too wrong though! I've lived in Italy (near Naples) for about 10 years and go to Italy at least once every year, and regional trains have always been unreliable, infrequent (for example from my local station: no trains in either direction between 09:00 and 13:00), often really late, slow. Not to mention infrastructure: Naples-Bari railway line, an important corridor, is single track for almost the entire length! And the use of 3 coach DMUs (Minuetto Diesel or Swing, or sometimes, even worse 1-2 car ALn 663/668) on important corridors like to Campobasso or Avellino from Rome or Naples...
Now thankfully they're no longer as late as they once were, plus Naples-Bari railway line is being upgraded to 100% HSR double track as well as electrification to Campobasso and Avellino which will mean superior electric trains like the TAF, E464+Vivalto, Minuetto Elettrico, Jazz, Rock & Pop. But there's still a lot to improve!

The stop in Brennero/Brenner is still required, as there's a voltage change (from the 15kV 16⅔ Hz AC for Austria, to the 3kV DC for Italy). And also because it's the terminus station for national services (both austrian and italian).
There's in construction the Brenner Base Tunnel, from Innsbruck to Fortezza/Franzensfeste, for almost 60 km, which will become on its opening in the late 2020s the new longest tunnel in the world, and will alleviate freight trains from the old line, that goes pretty steep to a 1,300m altitude (the highest point is the Brenner Pass).
There are plans also to build more tunnels along Trentino Alto Adige, siding the historic Brenner-Verona line, to alleviate it from the heavy freight traffic that's increasing year after year.
Also the change of signalling to ERTMS/ETCS would mean more international transport.

Technically the train could just coast through the station while changing voltage, but it is still a border and there may be occasional passport (or ID-card for EU citizens) spot-checks. And it's of course an interchange to regional trains, serving the intermediate stops.
btw. the north ramp of the Brenner is already equipped with ETCS (as is the line from Innsbruck to the German border). The south ramp in Italy and the line to Verona is currently in the process of being upgraded.

    • @gab_v250

@@stephanweinberger some months ago, FS said that they would undertake a massive project to shift signalling to ERTMS on **all the railway lines**, at least by 2036.
Main projects undergoing are the Turin-Milan-Venice classic line, the Milan-Chiasso(-Gotthard) and Milan-Domodossola(-Simplon) lines.
Seems a really big project, especially for southern Italy, where SCMT hasn't been installed in some lines, and there are few electrified railways (zero in Sardinia, left often for last for railway projects)
