    Check out this excerpt from Carlos' Masterclass where he dives into "Oye Como Va". This lesson and many others just like it are available in Carlos' Masterclass, where he goes beyond the notes and explains the art, soul and passion of guitar and the beauty and spirituality of life. As Carlos says: "In the class, you will learn about the influences, as well as the musical and spiritual moments in my life that have shaped my playing, songs and heart throughout my career. This is an invitation where everyone gets a front row seat. Come join us."

      Oh yeah, all the guitars PRS typically sends to him are works of art. Santana is really who gave them their major break into the market so they’re very thankful for it.

      Thats what I cant understand, this is a video from his class. The tone is awful, the recording sucks the mixing is no good, whatever, it sounds like crap. Why didnt Carlos say wait a second we cant put this out like this. Ultimately it comes down to him. I think this along with the masterclass commercial turned off more than a few potential customers.

    i absolutely love Santana's music and still have a lot of his records in my collection. I have to agree with many comments i've seen, that the tone is simply unpleasant. It is also not like any of the Santana tones i'm used to from his records which are sweet and slightly saturated. This just sounds harsh and unpleasant. It doesnt really matter if the problem is the amp or the mic or whatever else. This is a product which is for sale and the tone will put off potential buyers. God bless you Carlos thank you for your music ❤

      Like I'm not a great guitar player, but I just have fun and its a great way to say the things you could never let leave your lips, just let the guitar say the words for you💖
      As well as the feelings that don't have words, make some sounds that feel like it and bam, expressionism at its best.
      And of you put the Bob Ross spin on it " There are no mistakes, only happy accidents", well you'll be playin with fire, the fires of passion and love instead of technicalities.
      I'm not ripping on technical playing, each sound is a tool and an expressive outlet. Just play what you feel💖💖💖💖💖
      Santana gets it😉💖 its in his sounds and words.

    I've always wanted to tell Carlos this:
    I took my 5 yr old daughter to an outdoor Santana concert in Orange County, California, around 1990 (I think). We had been standing from the moment the band started playing. When "Oye Como Va" started playing, I saw my daughter look all around herself with a puzzled look. Then she looked at me with her eyes wide and she loudly whispered, " Mama! My booty wants to move all by itself!"
    I told her, " That's because it's in your blood."

  • @dajoler
    @dajoler 5 років тому +6

    Carlos seems to be the same kind of player as Jimi, BB and the other blues rock musicians of their time -- a lot of what he does is based on "feel".
    This is decidedly NOT aimed at people looking to learn specific techniques or theory and it's silly to think that Carlos is going to teach you what he plays note for note -- he himself probably doesn't think about his technique or what scales he plays when does, he just *does* it.
    So yeah, the title's a bit misleading -- this isn't a "masterclass" so much as it is a "jamming with Carlos" DVD. It's meant to emulate sitting down with a master and picking his brain, with the understanding that you as a player already have your basics down and are looking to break out of the doldrums of music theory. It's meant to get you to stop thinking so much about what and where to play on the fretboard and just feel the music. It sounds kinda cheesy but even the most technical musicians write some of their best work from their gut or their heart.
    If you're looking to learn Santana's songs note for note, there's already plenty of other (free) resources all over the web. This...well, this ain't it.

    • @kitoto8
      @kitoto8 5 років тому

      Exactly. Being a good musician does not mean being a good teacher. Teaching is a different skill altogether. So jamming with Santana or chatting with Carlos would be a better topic. Masterclass is a technical term therefore here misleads. But we get to hear the artist elaborating how he feels playing those notes. He doesnt have to say " this scale or that mode means"...etc. its like when songwriters are elaborated in books. We dont hear them talking about hooks and progressions but " inspiration..."
      Yes. Music is art , soul and craft - side by side.

      He didn't only upstroles, but he did many. I found it interesting thet he playd one and the same lick one time fingerstyle and the next time with his pick.
