dude that is my favorite film. there is alot of thought and wisedom in this film. it portrays the differences between cultures, emotion, discipline, friendship. by far the most spiritual film ever made.
Since I was eleven years old, this has been my favorite film of all time. So much about the way I look at life I learned from Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog, and it sealed Forrest Whitaker as the man who continues to be my favorite actor of all time.
You are my role model in this movie, I aspire to be this. Thank you for playing the part as a actor Officer Sir Ghostdog. Sincerely. You must have a serious code of ethics. I used to ,Until I was stabbed in the back and betrayed by somebody from Toronto where I live.
Lots of people disliked this film or just thought it was "stupid." I did too, until I read the Hagakure myself. I've developed a strong distaste for modern society and the average American's lifestyle and attitude. To think, if I never saw this flick, I would've never read the Hagakure, and I would be just as selfish, ignorant, pretentious and egotistical as so many of my fellow countrymen today. I still posses these flaws, but now I can identify them and make effort to change.
I'm an autistic man. I have reason to believe that the snowman killer is ghost dog. He is two murders away (Dante and son) from completing his masterpiece.
Okay young black man here MAD AS HELL it took my white nerdy friend to show me this film's existence. Like what the hell?! I am known for being 'that nigga with a katana' in my family, friends and even co-workers and here I am thinking me, my namesake, and Samuel L. Jackson be the only black folk out here doing this and now here is a whole assed brother I never heard of from ONE BLACK FRIEND OR MY FATHER?! Unsung don't even describe it. Gonna share this with my friends, family and then link people on social media so more of us don't go unsung. #BlacksamuraiExist >.> No Wesley Snipes do not count do not start that with me we'll be here hours. It was not A KATANA! Yes Blade is a great character.ther if they like it or not then I'm gonna get my DA and Twitter back online and say on there how outraged I am that it took this long to find another black samurai in the modern world.
@Ancooashoe If you`re interested in Star Wars kind of sword fight action movie, then, yes, this is boring... But if you watch this movie like peace of some kind of art, then, no its not boring.... You just need to try to find some sense in everything that happens on the screen.... And again- this is not about jumping around japanese samurai with sword n` sh*t.. Its about samurais mind (sry for my english)
@CapricornusDude I felt Baraka was a real cool spiritual experience of a movie to, check it out if you haven't, ghost dog has been one of my faves for longer but Baraka is crazy, you gotta be in the right frame of mind though, there is almost no dialogue for a couple hours
+dasgreg you can't expect mindless sheep to understand what this movie was portraying. That's why it's such a cult classic, I found this movie to be very deep.
I'm an autistic man. I have reason to believe that the snowman killer is ghost dog. He is two murders away (Dante and son) from completing his masterpiece.
I heard good things of this film, I was going to watch it... and then the first two minutes of this ABSOLUTELY UNBEARABLE music. I made it to minute three, then the music came back. And I suddenly realized what a feat all the mediocre soundtrack composers out there have achieved: even if they are never outstanding, they don't annoy the crap out of you and force you off the movie.
The music doesn't fit? What are you, a moron? So Hip-Hop doesn't fit urban crime dramas now? Classical score? What the FUCK is wrong with you? A movie set in the slums of Jersey (Yeah, it's supposed to be an anonymous city but it was filmed there) and you want the fucking soundtrack to The Mummy blaring in the background?
*SPOILERS* This film hasn't aged well. Its painfully slow and the main character feels very one dimensional throughout the entire movie. His goals and motives are driven by the code, sure. The audience gets that. But other than that, there's no ulterior motive. For example, like the author of Hagakure, the Master forbade the student to commit suicide with his master. If that story was followed in the movie, if for instance the master of Ghost Dog was killed but forbade him to follow suit, there would be a greater motivation to stick with the code and hunt down the killers of his master. Besides plotholes and bad action scenes (gangsters already being shot and half-way falling down when Ghost Dog shoots them), He also seems to be trained in hand to hand combat and swordfighting. Why isn't either of that in the movie? It even features a katana on the cover of the box, so naturally you'll be disappointed to know, there are little samurai things going on, and more or less only handguns. Besides that, there are some *weird* scenes in this film. (A gangster that says "Moo" while describing Indian names, a rapping, dancing, Italian gangster, who's putting baby powder on his ass whilst doing so, and the list just goes on.) The music in the film also is exactly what you'd expect from working with rappers and ultimately bury the movie in rapsongs and even the Italians pay homage to rapgroups just because the writers wanted to drop some names in the script, it seems like. One song stood out in particular and that was the eccentric drums and saxophone song that gave me a headache from the get-go. It then proceeds to go on for a full minute with just random shots of the neighbourhood and Forest driving in his car, unmoving, and without any facial expression. Throughout the film i found myself wondering if these things just were production mistakes or a hurried, frantic director that didn't have the time or resources to let the story come to fruition. The daughter of the mob boss is another character as thin as paper, and never contributes to the story, other than giving the main character a book, which she only reads as the story seems fit, and after that never reads again, and just watches cartoons all day, every day. Forest does make up a lot for all the strange choices made in this film, and manages to carry the character well, but ultimately, after the credits started rolling it just left me with more questions than answers. (Like what the hell were they trying to accomplish with the stray dog?) 5/10
Bad movie: Bad directing: Jim Jarmusch Forest Whitaker is incompetent to act an action and crime movie.. He is good only in the drama part only. All the actors with him are very weak such as Henry Silva and John Tormey. Simply, I wasted my time.
In the past four years this guys done maybe 12 perfect contracts. Perfect. Like a ghost.

Is it only me or...?? Ghost Dog's secluded lifestyle with the pigeons is quite similar to Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) of John Wick
You just see 2 chubby black fat guys with pigeons ....
having pigeons and being black does not mean he's like fishburne in John Wick
That's what I was thinking. I think they definitely ripped that off for john wick
Maybe he is Mike Tyson
He fights like Steven Seagal in his recent movies.
I like the film. If you like Zen, it is natural. Quotations from Yamamoto Tsunetomo impart some kind of meditative flavour to the action.
Any movie with a RZA soundtrack is worth a watch.
10 years later still boss

I know right this film is so fire and so inspirational
this is one of the worst trailers ive ever seen
One of my favorite movies. Great soundtrack. And there are a few scenes that are pretty funny.
Forrest Whitaker is just a stunning actor who is just simply underated along witht this film...
Thanks for the feedback. Indeed, it's severely underrated!
The most epic moment to me that is unrealized:
How GhostDog (master) controls his pigeons(retainers) ... that is so boss!

John Jones RZA did soundtrack for Ghost dog and Kill Bill
It's actually a Hommage on the Great French Movie 'Le Samourai' with Alen Delon.
