we have a 16ft x 10 ft shed always exposed to the sun and the wooden edging rots in the sun over time so we used pvc strips 1 inch wide pvc strips used inside pvc window frames to cover the gaps between the frame and the walls and nailed them in place with pvc nails that have a white head on them, you cant see the nails and they have lasted a lot longer than the orriginal exposed wood in the searing hot sunshine and they need no painting sanding or yearly treatment to keep them looking good.
