Great job. 🎉 I have a 12x50 shed. How do i calculate for insulation including the roof? I will either diy it (with roll insulation) or pay the manufacturer. They want to charge 6K for spray foam.
Thanks! I counted how many spaces between the wall studs and roof trusses that needed to be filled. Then determined how many feet I needed to fill them all. This gave me the total feet I needed. I then used that number to figure out how many insulation bats I needed to buy.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 thank you. I awaiting the delivery so I can't count it yet... Just trying to decide if it's cheaper to diy it or pay for spray foam from the manufacturer.

Thank you for your video! Just a quick question. I have a 10x14 I want to insulate and put drywall up. Do you think I should use a vapor barrier as well or is faced insulation good enough with the duravent?
So you don’t put the durovent on the side wall? I’m in Oklahoma will be converting my 14x24 shed into a living space. I will finish it up with dry walls.
stiksandstones - That's how I understand it. Also I intend to run a heater in this shed from time to time in the winter. I believe makes venting more important to prevent condensation from forming on the bottom of the roof board.
Love your video! I just bought a she shed and my husband and I are going to try to do ours. Can I ask roughly the cost? Mine is a 10x12, just trying to get an idea 😊 thank you!
They are called rafter vent baffles. They keep a ventilation gap between the insulation and the roof sheathing so that you don't get moisture between the roof and the insulation as the roof surface heats and cools.
I honestly don't remember but it's easy to calculate. My insulation came in 8' rolls so all I had to do was count the openings between the studs and trusses. It took one roll per space.
It looks like your roof has no ridge cap. How is the hot air ventilated? Even with the baffles is seems that the heat would collect at the top and cause mildew? I am trying to decide how to insulate the roof of my shed and I keep hearing you need a ridge cap to ventilate properly?
I installed a ridge cap. Here is a video showing how I did it. How to Install a Ridge Vent on a DIY Shed Build or Tiny House Build - ua-cam.com/video/bjeXWgYEA1A/v-deo.html
I was using an older Stanley staple gun. I have listed in the video description a staple gun and staples that are close to what I was using. I can't seem to find the Stanley gun I have, it's probably no longer produced as it is fairly old. I used the same staples for all of the insulation instillation. They are Durovent Rafter Ventilator to keep an air gap between the insulation and the roof sheathing. This allows air to flow between the soffit vents and the ridge vent to prevent mold, mildew and rot on the underside of the roof decking.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 my shed unfortunately does not have a ridge vent. Does this mean that I would need to install a fan and omit these all together?
Since the air flows from the soffits up to the ridge vent, it appears you overlapped them incorrectly. Moist air can be drawn up and under the top foam panel introducing moisture into your insulation.
how crazy is this ? it only takes 10 minutes to put an entire insulation in a shed. I am going to try it. i have ten minutes before shower and bed. I will be back.
The insulation has been stapled incorrectly. According to Johns Manville and Owens Corning, insulation should be stapled to the inside of the stud, not on the face. It does make a difference in R value.
I suppose it would make a difference. How much of a difference depends on the environment where the shed is built. In my opinion and location the difference is not worth the cost and effort for the shed I built. Also the shed I built is not going to be lived in, just used as a workshop and storage. I do live in a fairly dry and low humidity location.
This video shows how not to install baffles. Once you install the first, the overlap of the next baffle goes on top not underneath. You defeated the purpose of the ventilation system. Bad video.
If you install the baffles the way you claim is correct, if you have a leak in the roof or any condensation it will direct the water or moisture directly into your insulation. Either method will not affect the purpose of the ventilation. They will both vent the underside of the roof sheathing. Bad comment.

Hi there- what is the name of the product that you applied before you inserted the insulation. I'm refering to the long, white baffled piece. Thanks
I used a product called Durovent from Lowe's.
So you don’t put the durovent on the side wall? I’m in Oklahoma will be converting my 14x24 shed into a living space. I will finish it up with dry walls.
Beautiful work. What R value did you use for the insulation?
Thanks, I believe it was R13 in the walls and R19 in the ceiling.
The Dura vent is for allowing air between the OSB and insulation, correct? Can you apply the insulation directly?
Correct. Yes you can but you won’t have any venting that way.
@@DIYHomesteadProjectsDIYHP10 how critical is venting? depends on climate and shed I imagine?

Yes it is Thomas
i thought you’re supposed to leave gaps between the baffles when you install them.
