- I had my first kidney stone last week and it wasn't anything like what I would have expected. Of course there was the pain we all hear about - but even that was not what I thought it would be. I'm posting this video to tell my experience with kidney stones (a passable one) just to dispel some fear and misconceptions I think people may have about this malady. I've posted another follow-up video about the experience of having lithotripsy and ureteroscopy to break up the stones. People always say "it's the worst pain you'll ever have". That doesn't do it justice and it's impossible to understand how bad it is until you have one.

Thanks for your time on this!!! This is a very accurate description of what I went through. I had a 10mm and had to do the lipotricy. But I have some smaller stones that I have to pass.
Hey man, thanx for this video. Everything you described about what you were going through was exactly what I am going through right now. I just got home from the ER and they gave me some meds to deal with the pain. Just waiting to pass my stone. That's the part that's freaking me out. But I feel more at ease thanks to your video.
Thank you for this video! It brought me some comfort throughout this experience as I currently have my first kidney stone. I'm the same way as you about the drugs and being very against taking them unless medically necessary. But my goodness they are a God send right now. Pain started on Thursday and it's currently Saturday so I'm hoping it passes soon 🤞🏻

Hello i have passed mine last night. I still feel discomfort in my tummy when i change positions or do sneeze/cough. Is this normal? Did you have similar experience? Thanks
Haroon Afzal hi I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling bad. Turned out I don’t have a stone but another issue called a ureteral stricture. In fact I had a small surgical procedure for it today. I’ve had some severe pain all day. Mostly in my back and groin but I did also experience stomach pain. My advice would be to not let the pain get away from you. If it becomes too severe please call your doctor. I think a little discomfort is normal but prolonged pain is a sign of something wrong. I hope it passes and you’re feeling much better soon!
THANKS! I've been having a little back pain and wondered if it's kidney stones or shoveling snow. Going to be seeing my urologist an a few weeks and already had ultrasound so I'm guessing it's shoveling snow. Glad your pain is OVER!

Oh goodness! Glad you are better now!!! My Dad had several stones about 35 years ago and the pain was so intense, all he could do was lay on the floor. He actually cried... that was only the second time I had seen him do that at that point in my life. I wouldn't wish kidney stones on anybody! Thanks for putting this info out.

It’s amazing how something so tiny can cause such pain. I had my first one this week. Fortunately I passed it on the first night. Didn’t have to deal with coming off narcotics.

I feel your pain. I had my first kidney stone when I was 18 and have been having them off and on since then (I am 31 now). I am currently dealing with a stone that has been bothering me for three weeks now. It is by far the worst thing that I have ever felt and I always have the same symptoms you describe in this video.

Just found out I had one today at seventeen years old. Only 3 mm but the pain is unbearable. They gave me Motrin which made it a lot more tolerable told me to drink water and sent me home but the this video does a great job of explaining it, and it’s fairly close to my experience.

@Stone Relief | Joey Weichmann Thank You. That was about a year ago and it turns out what I had was a bad case of the shingles not kidney stones. the left side of my body only including testicular pain. After a week I got the rash.

Fantastic video Tony, and the intro was great how you build up what the first testicular feeling was.
I have a .3mm that hasnt given me any problems at all. It just happened that I needed a CT with iodine contrast for the abdomen for something else and it showed the .3mm stone. So after a few weeks, I have a Lithotripsy appointment this coming Tuesday 23rd Feb. Having the surgery to PREVENT what everyone else goes through so to speak lol
But as for pain, I havnt felt anything really to be honest but its still there. But you do know the stone can stay in the kidney for many years and give you no issues until it decides to go down the tube.

This kidney guide PreventKidneyStones43.blogspot.in really do amazing things to me however I am not saying that this will work for everybody who will try it. I was able to pass a stone that was too big to pass through after applying this solution for a few weeks. I am thankful that I did not underwent the surgical procedure, saving me from spending a hefty amount of money and making me pain free.?
Drink as much as you possibly can to push it down
Having passed multiple stones I can say this video is indeed accurate. Testicular pain isn’t something to worry about if you have already been to a doctor and confirmed you have a stone

Yesterday, in the ER they gave me that screen to get the stone to them.
I thought that’s not gonna happen.
Now, I’ll keep on hydrating and let’s see.

OMG the pain is intense!!!! I only got out of hospital 3 days back. mine was 2 ml, horrible horrible experience! Rodger Moore ( actor) said in his book, it was excruciating pain! he had to take time of working.
My pain started in my back but didnt get bad until it was on my side. I told my boss I had to leave and drive myself to emergency. There, I sat while the pain increased until I was a wretched mess unable to move or speak, just cry. Finally a ct scan showed a 6mm stone and I just left after 8 hrs and no bed. I'm not in as much pain but I haven't passed it yet. God bless and thanks for this video.

Just made my trip to the ER today. Pain is no joke.
Going through it now. Emergency surgery last week, second surgery next Tuesday. Had four children, and this is much, much worse. Worst pain I’ve ever dealt with!!
i had a seizure two weeks ago. its the most insane pain ive ever felt. quite honestly my brain didnt quite understand such pain existed, ive been drinking water but no stone yet. INSANE

Angel De. I really hope so..I have a 8mm now and have had four before been to the hospital four times...so I know what I'm talking about....What I mean is I would not wish this on any one....then I sure as hell would not want anyone to feel anything worse.
I’ve got aids wrong.
I had one probably 14-15 years ago. Mine was the stabbing pain. It felt like I was being stabbed with a 12" knife in my back. I could not sit at all. I went to the emergency room and went through what you did and i passed mine 2-3 days later as well. So my pain was just the severe back stabbing. It was very bad. Glad you are over it. Slow down ion the caffeine and you should be ok.

Tony Lee Glenn It's like anything else in life. This bad stuff happens to everyone else and not me...until it does! You can't appreciate the power of a kidney stone until you've had one. So you can warn people, but almost all of them will not heed until they themselves have one then they too try and warn everyone. I have cut back on caffeine and so far, I've not had a repeat and i sure ain't looking for one either!

This was exactly my experience too. I did have the back pain, but it was because of infection, not the stone itself. On the worst day I was sitting in my shower with the water running and throwing up.

Hi I think i had my kidney stone a few years. I kept getting stiff pain in lower back, thought it was dehydration so drank, but could hardly get in my car. A few years later I passed blood in urine for 6 weeks every day, so gp gave me antibiotics and also checked stomach felt puffy and sent me for a CT scan and ultrasound and they found a tiny kidney stone. It has not got bigger but the same, drink a lot and i do drink a lot. Still getting UTI and antibiotics, if dont drink much for a few days it comes back, UTI feel dizzy, sleepy and urine burns, said if keep getting uti will have another scan. It is good to hear your story.
My kidney stone HURT way more than my child birth. Hurt me worse than labor, contractions. I can take pain, but that kidney stone had Me nearly delirious. I was vomiting, kept walking, sitting, you just keep moving.
Flomax is actually a med that is for prostate cancer and issues. But it relaxes the ureter, kidney spasms are really painful and it relaxes your kidneys and bladder. The ureter is only about 1-2mm so even a small 3,4,5 mm stone is painful.
How long did you take the pain meds? You should not have had any withdrawal symptoms for a week use

Your symptoms were very much like mine. I felt like my digestive track had completely blocked up and wasn't working at all. Intense lower left abdominal pain that seemed connected to my navel as well. I waited 3 days before going to the ER thinking it was a reaction to the flu shot I had taken the prior week. Nauseous, vomiting, 103 fever. Spent 10 days in the hospital on Flomax, Cippra, Lasix, Morphine and Torredal. I still have my 11mm stone...scheduled for surgery on 11/17. The pain from kidney stones is intense and nearly unbearable. In between crying, screaming, and begging God to help me, I was vomiting. I nearly fainted several times. Broke out in dripping sweats, all from the pain. You need to drink water and walk, but you can't stand up straight. I was in labor for 22 hours, and this pain feels identical. It comes in waves, exactly as contractions do. Starts in the back, travels through your side, and goes down into your groin. You can't get comfortable, because you feel like you need to pee, but you can't pee. You wonder how you're still alive...just like the agony of labor pains...it's that bad.
At the ER, I was given intravenous morphine, which didn't make me sleep, but made me feel "normal" again. That's pretty intense pain. I never had a clue kidney stones were this painful, but Lord, have mercy, I know they are, now. God bless anyone who suffers.

Wow! So far I've been blessed to not have a kidney stone. Sorry you had to go thru all that, and thanks for this video which will help us know what to look out for.

Passed my kidney stone didn’t really hurt but bled a lot
Thanks for this video, it eased my nerves a lot. I found out I have a 2mm stone in my bladder on Sunday. I awoke from a nap with a painful, burning sensation in my left flank and immediately went to the emergency room. I told them I thought I had a kidney stone and within fifteen minutes I was injected with Toradol which helped my pain significantly. During this time, the stone made its way to my bladder (revealed through CT scan), so I think the worst is past me. But I'm still anxious. I have Toradol tablets for pain, Flomax, and a nausea medication, but the Toradol is supposed to be taken only as needed, so I basically can't take it until after I pass the stone. It's supposed to pass either today or tomorrow and I'm wondering how it'll be with no pain killers in my system when this booger decides to shoot! :D
Thanks for the reassurance the passing is not the worst bit. It was my 52nd birthday on Halloween and by 11 am I was in A&E with the kidney pain you describe. I was given Ora morph and left on the bed for 6 hours with the occasional chat with the doctor. Unfortunately there was a major car accident that day and I was left to decide it was time to discharge myself as the morphine did a good job of relieving the pain. I had another pain episode 2 days later, but did not go to A&E. I had seen my General Practitioner who booked me for a CT scan which I had last Friday. Monday 9th Nov I was back in A&E at 6 am with THE PAIN. I mentioned the CT scan, and they viewed the results and tolt me I have a 3.5mm stone which has left the kidney and it is on its way out. I am anxious. My meds are Diclofenac suppository Thanks to your message, I am less anxious now. Cheers Tony.
+semahnai Sure sorry you're going through that my friend. Mine was just a bit smaller than yours, but it passed with no major issues. I really hope your's comes out easy too. I'm sure you're screening all urine to catch it when it comes out. I was glad mine passed in a few days. Good grief it's misery. Stay on those meds - but get off them as soon as you can. Just had my first one measuring 7 mil. Had the lithotripsy but dr couldn’t find the stone although X-ray showed it was there 15 minutes before the procedure. I had asked for a prayer before going under. Still in wonder to what happened to my stone.
After it passed did it leave pain as if it sliced up the insides of your "lower regains".
I was peeing out bloody chunks one at a time. Had like 5 of them. One of them was big though, and a long strand of tissue running behind it.
It burned when i went to the bathroom before all this but i didn't have the stomach or back pain.
Yep on Xmas holidays at my moms, yesterday morning wake up with some bad tummy cramps, but fine an hour later (thought it was gas). Then today, wake up, pretty soon after that same pain came, until it was a 10. Barfed. Ok let's go to ER. Sent me back home... What a miserable experience so far.. not sure if I should wait to drive back

I’m currently 24 and I have multiple again. I started getting stones when I was 21 and have passed about 4. I’ve had 2 children and the pain is equal if not worse.

Sir I had a 16mm broken up and extracted by laser three days ago, I have a stent in but it's getting removed next week. Any tips on what to expect after the removal, any pain from fragments passing after the stent is gone? Thank you
as a female Tony i can def relate to the pain. I had a kidney stone on April 1st and i thought i was gonna die the pain was so bad. I had never been to the ER before so needless to say i was scared. I can't take Morphine ( puke) so they gave me torradol. I'm still waiting to pass it but thanks for sharing your story
I went to ER yesterday with lower abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a 3mm stone after a CT scan. I was sent home with Flomax and Norco. I feel the urgency and a little bit of pain but not much. So I'm confused. Will the pain come later, just before I pass it? I feel like I should not take the Norco unless I need it. Did you have pain the whole time? still not sure what to expect!

This is so similar to the episode I had the pain came for a day, then went, then back with a vengeance I couldn't keep still I had abdominal cramping and my left nut was on absolute FFIIRREE! After a night in hospital they've told me I have a 1cm kidney stone 1/3 the way down my uretera. Now i'm scared to do anything until my shock wave treatment!!! Never felt pain like it :oo

I've had 14 and every single one was totally different. Hell one I never felt till I heard it hit the toilet.
I know what you mean abput the morphine. It's like because he pain is so incredible the morphine feels totally euphoric. The first sign I felt that something was wrong was an empty stomach feeling in my kidney and within 10 minutes it was "curl in a ball and breathe hard" kinda pain. I know people that have passed out, one of them at the side of the highway after he pulled over.
The feeling of having to pee constantly is also easy to underestimate.
Day 6 and it's crazy how you feel fine for a while and then the stomach pain hits and in your mind you start thinking that the diagnosis must be wrong lol. This is my first one and I didnt get any strong pain pills, just antiinflamatory. No testicle pain yet. After hearing that part I'm kinda freaking wondering how much longer before it's over. The back pain feels like your laying on a hard floor with a baseball under you. Great video and wish me luck lol
Going through it right now. Totally relate to the fear of the wrong diagnosis! yesterday wasn't too bad and today is worse, but not as bad as the day I went to the ER. I also 100% agree with the back pain and baseball analogy. I keep thinking I'm laying on something 😂

I was diagnosed with kidney stones a year ago. This is my first time. In the past year I haven’t passed them. I was in extreme pain a couple months ago for about 2 weeks. It gradually subsided. Never thought it could be my kidney stones. My doctor now wants to use sound waves to break it up and hopefully move them out. First I have to drink some stuff then go for an ex-ray. He wants to see what kind of stones I have apparently there are stones that don’t show up on a regular ex-ray without drinking this stuff. I’m hoping to have this done during our Spring break. I’m a school bus driver. This way I’ll have the time off to pass these stones. Has anyone gone through this procedure? How long before you passed the stones and recovered from it? I’m in constant low back pain but my doctor said it’s probably from the stones. I always thought it was from arthritis which I’ve been told I have. I usually bleed from the penis once a year. One year I did it for three straight days. I hope this procedure straightens everything out. I’m not in a lot of pain yet.
The first kidney stone is always the worst! I've had about a total of five now and I was thankfully able to pass all but the first one! I had to be put under and the stint afterwards put the pain from the stone to shame!
I keep getting right flank pain, abdominal pain, and off and on nausea and cramping. I'm afraid I might have a kidney stone. I've had two children naturally, and had gallbladder attacks that led to it being removed. I hope it's not more painful than either of those! Thanks for the video

Thank you! My symptoms was similar. Except they found a 12 mm stone in my left kidney. I did the shock wave treatment two days ago. I was discharged with no instruction, strainer, or meds. I never saw the urologist. The post procedure consultation isnt for another week. They had no problem sending a $35K in bills, but no consultation or anything. Im in hell right now. Im left trying to find out what to expect on my own.
Ive had 2 stones 10yrs apart, currently have the second one now. Both times with me the pain came from no where and went from 0-100 in seconds all at the back, the current one hit at 4am in the morning last week! The worst pain is when the stone first drops from the Kidney into the ureter, not normally as bad when it travels along the ureter and when in the bladder theres little to know pain. The mad thing is you can feel perfectly normal then without warning it hits you, i'm hoping to pass this one but last time it was surgery and a stent which was horrendous. Pain killers are a must.....
It's what they call "referred pain" that occurs in parts of the body other than where the problem is.
I passed a kidney stone for the first time in my life today. I had ZERO idea I had one. Coincidentally I was actually at the doctors office giving an unrelated urine sample and when I started to urinate it was EXTREMELY painful and basically entirely blood. I pushed through the pain and it went away while I was still urinating (or trying to). I had no pain leading up to the passing of the stone, but I’m assuming it was extremely small. I don’t drink any soda at all, but I drink a lot of tea; no more though.
Mine started with a massive pain in my side to the point where I was vomiting and crying... then it got 1000x worse. I nearly passed out. The emergency room pain reliever (something like morphine) was a huge relief. 12 days-of-pain later I passed a 2mm stone. Drinking lots of water keeps the stones from forming. Avoid foods with oxalate as well.
+MikesCarInfo I just got out of the hospital and from the scans they can't find it in the kidney. I am concerned there is more there as my kidney is still sore and aching, however not as bad as it was. My pain threshold is high but I was literally tearing at the doctor for morphine.

I'm not sure. They couldn't find it in the scan but I am still having pain. I just took some tramadol, paracetamol and arthrotec because my ureta is still hurting and this will help in the off-chance it's still there. I am passing urine much easier though so I hope it's out.

On my 2nd kidney stone now. This time it’s taking awhile to pass through the ureter. Went to the ER last night.
I passed a 3-4mm jagged stone without going to the hospital. The pain was so incredible I was seriously concerned that I was going to die. Beyond horrible and I dread I'll get another one someday.
I could not have done it. Pain beyond belief. I've been through the ordeal twice now and DID go to the hospital. It really is something you dread for the rest of your life.
I just had kidney stones at 4am this morning, my 7th time since 2005, very painful
Poor bugger. I've just been through it a couple days ago and it was the most excruciating pain I have ever been through. I threw up from the pain and was injected with enough morphine to kill a bull elephant and it still hurt.

In Norway we're fairly limited with pain meds. I was given a load morphine, voltaren injections and ketorex tablets. I still have some left so if I feel that familiar ache I am ready...
kickinthegob the morphine didn't help so they gave me hydromorphone which helped a lot.
Had my attack at 7:00 am . Haven't passed it yet. Loaded up on painkillers. This is the worst pain that I have ever experienced
To all ppl think they can get rid of stones without taking surgery depending on size of stone is crazy.To all get a ct scan to detect stones ultrasound not 100% for detection. If the stone is 5mm they say 50/50 chance of passing now that some freaking pain. Your urethra is capable of Opening to 3mm so figure how your going to pass that stone. I had a 5mm and decided to get surgery. The pain was imaginable it feels like a constant stabbing on your left side and your always feeling full.When i first had the effects of it I felt nausea, and pale like I was dying alive its no joke. When the stone is moving is when you feel the most pain. Mines was stuck at the bladder and on top of that I had a uti infection. I did not want to go to surgery but when i thought about the pain i was enduring for a month i said lets go with the surgery. I'm glad i went with the surgery and I would do it again for not to feel this pain. The stent they put in was the most uncomfortable but when you think about that pain u just endured you can manage it. Thanks for this upload I now changed my diet and drink more water cause they say that's the main cause is having a lot of dehydration and eating a lot of things that have high salt, and sugar so watch what you eat ppl peace.
Getupand Gotransport I just left the ER for the 5th time since having a stent put in. This time I have a UTI (NEVER HAD A UTI IN MY 34 YEARS OF LIVING PLUS IVE HAD 3 KIDDOS VAGINALLY) 😖😢.... this stent is causing me more pain than the kidney stones themselves (and kidney stones are excruciating pain😖😩)..... I missed my appointment to have the laser break up of the stones yesterday and I'm glad I missed it bcuz after watching videos and hearing ppls testimonies about the procedure, I think I'm gonna opt for the ultrasound waves instead. I'm not looking forward to any more pain. I'm tired of being in pain. My stones are 9 and 8 mms left and right kidneys, followed by a few 5,4,3,5 mm stones behind them. I'm just ready to get these bastards out of me along with that damn stent.😡😖😩😢
I have a kidney stone near my bladder. Went to the emergency room and everything you described occurred. They sent me home I have not had any pain since. I do not know if I have passed it. How do I know if I have passed it? Does the passing of the kidney stone cause pain? If so can you describe the actual passing of the Stone? I don't know if it's just stopped hurting or if I've actually passed it or if it's going to come back again. Thank you so much

Tony I was also addicted to diet soda I switched to water I do drink a diet soda here and there but I was drinking it by the case it was hard switching to water. But now I actually enjoy cold water. I still miss the soda but I will drink one when I feel like having one. Sometimes we are are own waste enemy.Must of do not eat the proper foods or take care of our selfs until
something happens. Then we are good for a while and fall right back into the bad habits. I eat lots of fresh veggies but I over eat what ever else there is like chicken,beef.
I'm changing the way I eat and drink already Art. This situation gave me the motivation to do it.
I'm worried now, I have exactly the same symptoms you described, dull ache in left testicle that comes and goes now I'm getting aches in my left side area and around pelvic spot. Its weird 90% of the day I feel fine then I'll randomly start getting those symptoms these last few days. I've recently started a strict diet the last month or so, going from eating nothing but junk to completely healthy stuff I'm wondering if its caused a shock to my system or something like that?
+roflman Sounds just like my situation. The doctors said I may have been passing very small stones for years. It just takes one of the right size to cause the serious pain. Hope you're not in this same predicament. Believe me YOU'LL KNOW when it is really a kidney stone. If at all possible, try to get to a family doc and get it taken care of (meds, etc.). It cost me over $2000 to have mine treated through the local Emergency Department - after my insurance paid! Kidney stones it turns out is a big cash cow for hospitals. They run a few tests, give you some drugs, tell you to go home to try to pass it, then hammer you with bills.

Hey Tony, I personally have not had the pleasure of a kidney stone, but my son-in-law had a couple last year.
He says if you are not religious and you try to "go it alone" with out drugs etc, you will come face to face with Jesus.
Hang in there and let us know what the composition of the stone is.
This certainly is a break from your "regular" videos, but it really is a good - public service announcement.

I have a 5mm stone I still have to pass. I had an operation yesterday using sound to try to break it up. They put me under for like an hour and I was at the hospital until almost 9pm. Today I am just trying to relax and pass it so that I can get back to work.

So how well did the oxycodone work? I've got a 4mm stone waiting to pass through my right uretor and have oxycodone at hand and hope it will help a lot
Matthew McCarty It saved the day Matthew. The pain wasn't so much an issue, and passing mine (about 3mm) was no big deal compared to the intense pain of the onset. I was only on the pain meds for about 4 days, but it was strange coming off it cold turkey after the stone passed. I can see how people get easily hooked on this kind of stuff.
I would not recommend opioid pain meds they are very addictive. Motrin works wonders for stones. I have two as of right now a 4 mm one on the left and a 6 mm one on the right. I have been in severe pain however I refuse to take anything narcotic or opioid. My Dr recommend Motrin and it has helped tremendously pain is almost nonexistent. You could also ask for tramadol which is a non-narcotic pain medicine that helps tremendously with stones.

sharp stabbing pian middle lower left center stomach . Pain seemed to move here & there little.
On a pain scale I rate mine starting 8 then 9 . Seems like yours was 10 right off the bat.
I had a stroke about a month ago & I think the new meds. I was on dried me out more then usual , which pushed me over the point to get a stones. I needed much more water. 600-900 mg of Tylenol did help with pain somewhat.
5 days in! Just dont want to go to ER. I'm at my limit....so painful
