  • Pretty raw and rough. It starts abrupt because I had to edit a TON out because the original video was too long..... might delete this later.

First of all props to you for making and posting this video. It’s brave to put yourself out there. I’ve never had a kidney stone but I suffer from anxiety daily and seeing your posts on IG and watching your videos gives me little reminders throughout the day that I’m not alone and if I really think about it everything’s ok. I’m ok. You’re ok. Life always works itself out. Also whenever you click post remember it’s helps people like me out. So in return I hope that thought helps you out as well :)

I’m unsure if you are still active on UA-cam, but THANK YOU for making this video. I was hospitalized in early October with a kidney stone, and since then, my “health anxiety” has been through the roof. I’m suffering as I write this, once again worried about experiencing such a horrific thing, in a pandemic no less. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone. Also, I’m sorry that you experienced such an attitude from the paramedic - anxiety is so stigmatized, and it is so demeaning to be treated that way.

Hi Jessica, happy new year! I'm new to your channel, but have seen some of your work which I find it amazing! Even though I never had kidnney stone, i have some family members who suffered with it and anxiety is very present in our lives. I dont know if you will read this, but i just hope that you are fine and safe, mas make sure you know how much you are an inspiration for people, because you are strong not for faking your Life style, but for giving voice to such an important topic and how much there is to be done in order to understand it.
I hope you're fine and happy, because you deserve it! You deserve all the magical moments life can give you, and more.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I have had about 100 stones in my life as I have a disease that makes me have stones at all times and osteoarthritis …its always bad when you get medical staff that just dont care. It can make any situation worse. I haven’t had one obstructed in years, but I fear I have one now. I passed a 9mm stone last year and usually get obstructed when they are 4mm greater. I have had drs that have ridiculed me or some that empathize … I get what you are going through. I hope you dont get another one but as you know when you have one you have greater chance of having another…I do what ever I can not to go to hospital as well.

That is so frustrating! I'm sorry you had to go through that. I think anyone can tell the difference between their anxiety and kidney stone pain, especially someone very familiar with both. It shouldn't have been a question. Just because a person is capable of standing and walking doesn't mean they're not in great pain. I'm glad you stuck to your guns and got the treatment you needed.
I had gallstones a few years ago. The pain was excruciating. I totally get what you're saying about the anxiety living in the subconscious. Even after having my gallbladder removed, I'm afraid to eat certain foods. I associate a certain ache and tightness after eating with an oncoming gallbladder attack. The sensation makes my adrenaline go up even though I know those days are over.
By the way, I watched The Good Dinosaur and thought it was wonderful. Thank you for the recommendation.

I have chronic kidney stones. I am so sorry to hear about your experience especially with the ambulance douche. So frustrating. My stent was pulled out without meds or anything and it ripped my pelvic floor to shreds as it took four nurses two on either side holding my legs apart and down. I was back at the hospital 1 hr after surgery puking thinking I was dying! I know that back pain all too well and I've been suffering ....like I walk with my hand on my right hand side of my body which my urologist said is a natural response to try to protect yourself even tho the pain is coming from the inside of me. Has anyone else who is reading this had a problem with their pelvic floor due to this condition?

You aren’t crazy. I wish I could tell you that it will get better but I don’t know if it will. It may lessen over time, but I suffer anxiety attacks from the same fear. I wound up in the er 5 years ago with an 8 lb ovarian cyst twisting my ovary. The entire experience and hospital stay was so extremely traumatic to me. The first few months following I was overly cautious and so scared of every muscle twinge or cramp. It’s gotten better now but sadly whenever I get the slightest bit injured or ill I wind up in full blown attacks. It’s the fear of the unknown, experiencing health issues, and winding up in surgery or worse again that sends me overboard.I agree, it may be part ptsd and I don’t want to self diagnose or use that word lightly, but in my case I feel that it is. A lot of people don’t understand it , cant relate or don’t talk about it so it’s hard to move past the fear/trigger. I hope that you are able to overcome it. If you do please share with us all how you did. It’s going to be rough but hang in there. Just know you got through it once and if it happens again you’ll get through it again.

Jessica Prell some days I do well other times I don’t. If I get up in the morning and I don’t have any weird aches and pains I reassure myself that I’m ok and going to be ok and go on with life. But if at any time I get weird pains it does make me slightly panicky inside. I usually don’t have a full meltdown unless the pain is severe or not going away or if I injure myself to where I know I need to go to urgent care I have total panic attacks. I wish I had better coping abilities to ward it off and get through it better but I’m still pretty traumatized/terrified of medical emergencies. It does lessen over time, but I think that time is the only thing that works for me. Or at least it works until I have another medical emergency 😕

I experienced chronic vertigo and vision problems for months. I had doctors and specialists dismiss my problems as "anxiety" because I took xanax as needed. Few months later, I discovered I had M.S.. Be careful of doctors who blame all your problems on your mental health issues and ignore the real problem.

If the stones are small, they’ll pass on their own. I believe it’s 5mm or smaller. I used to be the same way because I had a stone that got obstructed and wouldn’t pass, but then I had a small stone that I passed on my own, and it wasn’t too bad, so now I’m not as anxious as I once was. But I was just as bad as you were. Also lemon water prevents kidney stones. It also helps kidney stones pass.

Same thing happened to me just now. Im a trucker whos had kidney stones before, but the other day one hit me so hard i was screaming in agony for SIX hours straight. Was out of town but went straight to an emergency room anyway. They just let me sit in their waiting room for another two hours in absolute agony before finally giving me morphine. Then took a CAT scan and found a 7mm stone. Doc insists all these painful procedures will be necessary to remove it, but they wont do it there, they want me to go to a urologist in my own city. So yeah, right now im scared out of my mind that the next ER will see dollar signs and want to do a bunch of barbaric things to remove it. Im still hoping it passes on its own anyway, before my appointment tomorrow.

Still havent passed it, but its less painful today! Solidarity, kidney stone folk!

It has been 4 years since you made this video. Are you still making stones? Drugs don't work for me. I had surgery for a 15mm stone a month ago. I have made a lifestyle change to prevent them. Your food and fluid intake may need an overhaul. Doctors are not great for advising you on that. There are professionals who do. I didn't know about preventing them, so you have to be your best advocate. High oxalates foods should be avoided, and fluid intake increases. There are different types of stones. I hope your urologist sent some of yours for analysis and ordered a 24-hour urine collection for analysis. For people who don't know, I didn't, almonds, spinach, potatoes, and other high oxalate foods should be avoided or severely moderated. Everyone still looking for answers should check out Jill Harris, a nurse. She has a kidney stone prevention diet, blogs, diet plans, and a host of information. Good luck. I had an ultrasound yesterday, and I still have a 4mm stone, but now I am armed with information that no one warned me about before.
