I used to catch and release all trout till I found out how good they work for flathead. I use cut and live. Only rainbows though. Still cr brooks and browns as well as big bows.
Never seen anyone use live trout for bait. Trout fishers must be frustrated. What no fly rod In your boat. Thanks for your bait choices Dave. What a guy!
Those Flathead Catfish have a mouth big enough to swallow about any fish down under that water! He didn't give you that Trout back either...gulp, ahh! I 💜 those Flatheads!
I like the kokanee best because of how oily they are,have always used trout for sturgeon and catfish.southern idaho cats like Morgan crickets.my grandpa in California used chicken livers,never know

Used trout last summer for the first time and l couldn't believe how fast l cought flatheads . Heard it was a great cutbait . Made a believer out if me. Now i save trout all the time. By the way it was frozen for 2 months before l used them . Excellent results. Im in Pennsylvania.

But there was lots of trout to feed on. Emagin if catfish could feed on them regularly. I bet lake Dixon has some huge catfish. It's only 78 acres. Nice fish, Dave, just had to share that story. Check it out. May be world record catfish in that lake.
Told ya.!. Last vid I was use it whole lol caught them Muskie fishing with them. It was a thing I had to try just to say I had caught one on live bait, Muskie that is. Live bait and Muskie fishing sucks for the population cause so many big fish get hooked deep and kills them. Never let one eat it, generally when they hit, it’s got it …. Hook set immediately!

We use a type of blue salt called "better bait" keeps them very active and happy in the live well.. especially for our threadfin gizzard shad ..they die almost immediately upon netting for the well but I've never tried trout for flats..will be on the bucket list now😂🤣..
Before I watch it I'm guessing a stripper will get it. It's against the law to use them for bait here in California and they make great striped bass bait, so i hear. Edit:Wrong again.
Our local lake has the state record smallmouth bass, partly due to their diet of stocked rainbow trout, the hawgs line up under the dock when the stock truck delivers , and its a feeding frenzy 👍❤️😎

Dagblasted weather sucks in Michigan! We usually go from winter to summer around Memorial day weekend. Maybe, I can go fishing Sunday.

Dave, for handling trout, try a cloth glove with the fingers cut out. Makes handling them easy.
My biggest Channel Catfish was caught on cut Rainbow Trout. Almost 20 pounds! Almost unheard of down here in Tennessee!
Nice cat no matter how long the video was. Length of video not important but quality of the catch is important.
Now try 12-14 inch channel cats. Take plyers and snap the dorsal and and side fins ! True favorite of Big Shovelhead!
