I have an old simple washing machine and I took it apart to fix it one time. And I took the drum out of the big thick plastic barrel it sits down in. When I tell you all… that when we say we are “washing” our clothes we are just rewetting them in a microbial soup from hell. The disgusting filth I got out from between the plastic barrel and the drum (that really had no other way to escape unless I scrape it out by hand) was horrifying. I felt so dirty knowing that I had put clothes on my body that had been washed in that gremlins cauldron. One time after that I had to use a laundromat-and I already knew what MY washer looked like, so I hand washed all the stuff and wrung it out and carried all that super heavy stuff to the laundromat and just used the dryers
@ I periodically do a hot water/vinegar wash. Followed by a cold water bleach wash. It seems to have helped tons and yes i used less soap and no more fabric softener in the washer
Thanks so much for talking about KP! I’ve had persistent KP on my arms since I was a teenager (I’m in my 30s now.) It’s not painful but it is annoying and unsightly. My KP has improved quite a bit since I started treating it with Eucerin Roughness Relief, a lotion with urea and lactic acid. It’s pretty affordable, easy to apply and fragrance-free. I recommend checking it out if it’s available in your area.

I find it very interesting what you said about creams vs lotions. I’m a practitioner in the US and was taught in school that creams are more moisturizing than lotions and that is still the accepted general practice. Love seeing your perspective on these topics. Great video as always!

My washer has a self cleaning cycle that it reminds me to use every 40 cycles. It makes the water super hot and I usually do it overnight when I’m sleeping because the cycle lasts nearly 4 hours. It uses only hot water to clean. I also leave both the washer door and detergent/softener/bleach holder open to dry out between uses. P.S. I 💛Mo.💋
Some washing machines cannot heat up super high temperature unfortunately, especially if they have a higher "environmentally friendly" rating, I learned this when I tried to use high heat to clean mine and it did not have it :(
Hypochlorous acid is the active ingredient in a product called Vetericyn in the US. It's been used for veterinary wound care for ages. Doesn't sting, doesn't harm healthy or granulating cells, soothing, can be bandaged, actually helps speed healing, very low chance to develop allergy, etc.
Oh, loved the bit about laundry detergent. I switched from liquid to powder detergent (both unscented) maybe two months ago and noticed, that the very faint 'old people smell' my clothes had after washing and drying, is gone now. I wash most things on a low temperature cycle and air dry my clothes, so that probably exasperated the problem. I tried a dedicated machine cleaner before, but it didn't really have the desired effect. I think the biofilm probably builds up too quickly for a just occasional 'extra cleaning' to be enough.

For sensitive skin ppl - use the PC body exfoliant with caution, patch test etc. it made my skin sting so bad, and made my friends skin sting too, even though he doesn't usually have issues with sensitivity.
I'm so used to ignoring marketing claims at this point that I didn't even realize how much of the hypochlorous acid hype was cringe 😳 That said, I do think it does *something*, but in a really adjunct way. So IDK about hydroclorphus acid for anti acne and such. But I will say that it works to reduce my dry eye caused by ocular rosacea. It works by eliminating bacteria and mites around my eyes to reduce dryness and inflammation. I've been using it for about a year now and it helps. I also use it on my legs after I shower and it has helped repair my skin barrier as I get really itchy, dry skin even in humid/hot weather.

Thank you so much for this, I've been trying to spruce up my bodycare routine and kept finding so much "everything shower" BS. So grateful for the depth of information you provide!
There's a problem with stated percentages of encapsulated retinol. The 1% inludes retinol and encapsulation material. Retinol itself is just a fraction of that percentage.
I never heard that one about chemical exfoliants for armpits! My armpit smell has been bothering me for a few years, no matter what I try I can smell them. I've asked others and they say they don't smell anything, but *I* can smell them! ...gonna go have a shower, will check back in!
The Olay Retinol lotion has worked surprisingly well for my kp. Something worth sharing: I achieved better results by washing with Olay's AHA/BHA body wash prior to appling the Olay Retinol Body lotion. Applying the lotion before exiting the shower while my skin is still damp has helped me achieve better results. The body wash is also a generous size, I love the texture of the Olay Retinol lotion as it reminds me of a creamy hydra gel.
Heel balm was not for me. Great for my heels (I like Vaseline better), but not my upper arms, where I have KP. What worked was body wash for sensitive skin everyday + shower oil 3x a week + Glycolic acid every second day. That made a huge difference. Paula's Choice was absolute garbage for me, expensive and ineffective (again, for me). What worked was Anua 2% BHA toner. Fabulous 3x times a week! Body scrubs don't work for me either. They dry my skin to the point it feels like is burning. The silicone shower "scrubs" work thou. Just the right amount of rough. Awesome vid!
A master who fixed my dishwasher recommended acetic acid(the one that's in vinegar) 70% about 200 ml, the hottest program - for washing machines and dishwashers, once a month. I also heard of people using citric acid, but he said that it can damage some parts. with vinegar, so far so good
I ❤ the "Silk Scrub" by Fur for treating folliculitis. It can be used on the face and body. Fur also has remedies for KP, ingrown hairs and discoloration. Including pimple patches specifically formulated for folliculitis.
KP takes literal years of dedication, and to my knowledge it's genetic. I've had it my whole life on my upper arms, butt, outer thighs, and jawline. It's gotten better with age. I actually think my #1 biggest help with it has been being dedicated to putting on a healthy amount of lotion all over my body every single day. Never skip. It doesn't even matter what kind of lotion. Just do it.
I really like Elucent AHA lotion for bumpy arms. For a cheap salicylic acid toner I quite like the Anko one at Kmart. Has a nice herbal tea kinda smell. Aaand I just restocked my Benzac wash a few days ago in the Priceline cleanser sale!
Retinol in…food? 🤯 Why didn’t I ever realize this? Why am I not hearing anyone talk about that…? I mean, duh, I guess, but also not. If you eat lots of vitamin A rich foods, and use retinol products, can you irritate your skin? I mean, by the sounds of the new limits, you can…? I’m so confused.
I could not stand the smell of that bioderma cleanser. I liked the La Roche Posay version of it though. Eucerin also used to have one I really loves but that has since that's been discontinued now😢
Another excellent video! I don't know if this would warrant a full video or not, but I'd love to hear more about the science behind nail/cuticle oils/balms. There's a lot of debate in nail communities about what types of nail oils are best and will penetrate the nail (specifically jojoba oil). Can oil actually penetrate the nail? Is there evidence that any oils strengthen nails?
Hey Michelle, I recommend disabling the auto dub feature. It's a setting inside the upload defaults. The auto dubbing is not very good, and users have to manually select original audio for every video
the alpha-h body serum works really well for KP as well the acids in it help with softening the skin and calming the redness/darkness of the bumps and gosh finally a body treatment (for KP at least) that doesnt stink 😤😤 i wonder if the vitamin C/niacinamide serum they carry smells more like citrus ( i hope not)
Thanks for this video. I’ll sanitize my washer more frequently now (bleach and hot water wash. So much cheaper than those washer cleaning tablets that are sold). My fave body retinol is Versed Press Restart Retinol Body Lotion. With 0.10% encapsulated retinol and nice moisturizing ingredients. I use alone as my nighttime lotion/treatment for neck, chest, hands and upper arms. Easy and less than $30 for 177ml at the drugstore it replaced the Paula’s Choice equivalent.
Some other people have said bleach can rust the inside of the machine, so maybe don't do it too frequently and use vinegar for other times (but not both together!)
@ Thanks for the tip! Will do. I also keep the door open between cycles to allow for evaporation of moisture. (Machine is enclosed behind closet doors, safe from kids and pets).
i find that if i have stubble anywhere on my body, it's prone to getting what seems like folliculitis. it's just like a slightly raised but also wide red spot with a hair sticking out of the middle, and it only happens on hair that's grown out so it's not ingrown. it also happens even if i use a trimmer instead of a razor. i try calming and exfoliating products but still have difficulty. i'm interested in the laundry detergent idea especially because i also wash pet stuff in my washing machine
Chemist in a former life. Question: isn't saying that hypochlorous acid is the same thing as dilute bleach similar to saying that a salt water solution is the same thing as dilute hydrochloric acid?
Hypochlorous acid is a weak acid, so it's in equilibrium with its conjugate base OCl-. The form it takes is dependent on the environment, so if you spray it on your skin and let it dry down, it's going to end up at a similar place. So it's more like saying soda water is basically carbon dioxide and water, or how they use sodium acetate to make salt and vinegar chips. Kind of Stephen has an explanation here: www.kindofstephen.com/bleach_spray/
Re Bioderma: I am pretty sure that applying rancid fatty acids on my body is not good. So why are they just covering the smell? Cant they use some conserving chemicals to make it last? Greetings :) love your videos
Eek, can you rephrase that - “if you have a patch of skin [like goosebumps]..” if it comes out of nowhere, and is a random (non-symmetrical/not on both arms, legs etc) it could be something else, including, rarely, something sinister. Def need to get it checked out.
OxiClean is color-safe bleach in powder form and is primarily hydrogen peroxide, so it’s the best combo of factors. Also it’s great for stains other than laundry too.
One problem I have and I never found a solution, is the KP in the intimate area, the inside of the upper thigh. It's not like on the legs or arms, since it doesn't dry. The skin remains quite moist, but the hairs don't pierce through, and I get lots of whitish bumps, and unless I remove them by hand (not possible cause too many of them), they remain. I tried physical exfoliation, trying to remain delicate, and i'm afraid of chemical exfoliation in that area, since the skin is super thin.
do you think hypochlorous acid spray would work well on back acne? or like what would be the best treatment for it? feels like my skin is just too strong, I used high percentage heel balm for my cracked heels and that worked for like 1 day and I was back to square one. actually, do I need to use heel balms every day for them to have effect or is my skin just built different?
Hello! I recently had a breakout of perioral dermatitis. There is so little info online, and it's so expensive to see a GP who might not know the best treatments either. Do you have any info?
I have gone through so many tubes of exfoliant lotion for my KP. I've had it almost my whole life and nothing has made it better, not urea, not lactic acid, not a turkish mitt (and I only get those 'giant rolls' of stuff coming off if I've used moisturiser, I think it just buffs off skincare buildup for me because it didn't do that the very first time I used it and wasn't much of a body lotion fan) - nothing. I've had to just accept I'll always look speckly. :(
does shower oil like this bioderma really cleannse well whilw keeping skin moisturized?cuz i feel its not cleansing me well i have feeling like this with every hydrating cleansers
Hi Michelle, I have always wondered, when those lipid rich cleansing products start to smell slightly rancid, is there a change in how effective they are?
it gets dicey with hypochlorous acid i think is because of concentrations you dont want to be using household cleaning grade acids on your face perhaps the weird marketing around it is that? im not sure
I’ve been watching your channel for years, and here I’m finally gonna say it: would you consider to try some makeup that’s for neutral undertone instead of warm undertone skin? I could be wrong but it just seems most of what you put on your face is too orange for you. 😊
I moved away from neutral and cool colours because my coworkers always asked if I was sick when I was wearing them 🤷🏻♀️ I have some old lipstick swatch posts on my blog if you want to see what they look like
@@LabMuffinBeautyScience have you tried Korean style makeup? I do feel for most Asian girls the Korean style is more suitable for our features, which emphasises more on the from-within kind of look, other than the intensity of the look. Basically you can spend one hour on your makeup just so you can look like you haven’t put much effort into it at all ;) (again, I believe the blush is the key in your case in order not to look sick :)
I'm trying to find a higher percentage urea (foot) cream that isn't strongly scented. I discovered on my own that Kerasal foot cream works pretty good on my KP, but I feel I need something stronger since Kerasal is only 10% urea and 2% salicylic acid. I tried the SVR Xerial 50, but it didn't do much despite its high urea content. I found I had to put an ointment on top of it to get the same effect as I did from the Kerasal. The formula has formed little crystals as well which is annoying. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!!
Question about the Benzac wash: I’ve used their face wash version and it doesn’t foam at all; it’s just a lotion-ey cream. I’m in the EU and don’t have convenient access to PanOxyl. Does the Benzac wash foam?
I have Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome (connective tissue disorder). I am trying to imagine what my skin would look like if I used the Turkish mitt. (I am thinking it would be like a cheese grater.)
dude don't risk it, trust me. even with my more mild hEDS it causes a tremendous amount of pain after. unfortunately, a lot of her tips are absolutely fab for normal skin I'm sure, but be very very cautious with a lot of these~ The chlorhexidine I've personally found is safe (they use it to disinfectant before surgery too) and it can help tackle some of the bacteria issues she mentioned... my kp I've just accepted though
reminds me though how much I'd love to find skincare about this... by any chance do you have anywhere you look for information or specific things you really like?
As a fellow hEDS zebra 🦓, i have issues with physical exfoliation but not chemical. My skin has issues with healing - much slower than usual and have scaring issues - wider scars when healed and thinner skin. I get hyper pigmentation from physical exfoliation.
That olay retinol body wash made me itch while I was still in the shower! I’m afraid to use it. It smells good though. Oh I wish it didn’t make me itch. Bc I’ve got two small kids and no time to apply retinol lotion all over my body. It’s easier in the shower bc I was already going to wash myself so…get two birds stoned at once ya know?
I really just want a good body lotion or cream for older chicks like myself that wont make me feel greasy but moisturizes and makes my skin healthier. And cetaphil isnt it. CeraVe did nothing for me either.
Can u pls tell me what science says to do after I wax? I can’t use strong exfoliants because I wax every 3 weeks so when I’m supposed to exfoliate after waxing I’m like “what do I do?” This product called Finipil was recommended on reddit Eta I’m blonde and can’t laser

They dry my skin to the point it feels like is burning. The silicone shower "scrubs" work thou. Just the right amount of rough. Awesome vid!
yayayy, i was waiting for a vid drop for so long! love the content!
A master who fixed my dishwasher recommended acetic acid(the one that's in vinegar) 70% about 200 ml, the hottest program - for washing machines and dishwashers, once a month. I also heard of people using citric acid, but he said that it can damage some parts. with vinegar, so far so good
I’m loving prequel toner and cleanser
hi! I use the cerave sa cleanser and it’s perfect for exfoliating of the body and the face. I love it
I find those heel creams great for knees and elbows too.
The Fantano NOT GOOD did surprise me!
Omg we need a deep dive on hypochlorus acid claims 😅
Yay! Another Lab Muffin video ❤😀❤
Just do it.
Cerave’s SA moistuiser is really good for exfoliation
Agree! I use the cleanser for body and face.
I use LRP Effaclar Micro-Peeling cleanser (has 2% sal acid) and the Atoderm oil. Works well for my KP.
I love the Dermal Therapy brand!
One rule in the EU I really appreciate is MIis only allowed in non leave on products 🎉
So it’s OK to use products with rancid ingredients as long as you can’t smell the rancidity? Legit question here!
I could not stand the smell of that bioderma cleanser. I liked the La Roche Posay version of it though. Eucerin also used to have one I really loves but that has since that's been discontinued now😢
Can you please cover spicules (reedle shot) in terms of whether they chemically break down, are safe, thanks this video was very helpful ❤
Can you do a video on nail fungus? I want to see your thoughts and science.
Hey Michelle, I recommend disabling the auto dub feature. It's a setting inside the upload defaults.
The auto dubbing is not very good, and users have to manually select original audio for every video
In the US, Udderly Smooth 10 is fragrance free and has 10% urea. There is a 20% urea version of it too
😊
the alpha-h body serum works really well for KP as well the acids in it help with softening the skin and calming the redness/darkness of the bumps and gosh finally a body treatment (for KP at least) that doesnt stink 😤😤
i wonder if the vitamin C/niacinamide serum they carry smells more like citrus ( i hope not)
Hi, bleach may clean the washing machine but it is corrosive. Vinegar on a hot cycle is effective and much less corrosive.
Vinegar isn't going to kill all the germs once it's been diluted in a washing machine full of water.
love this video
Can you please make a video about what works for large, dark, patches of eczema?
- I buy sodium percarbonate pure from a brewery supply shop, activate with hot water (the commercial stuff has an activator for lower temp).
Alpha-H sounds nice. I might try it. Thanks.
Thank you!!!
Can you say more about why the Paula’s Choice BHA liquid “gets dicey” @3:56 when it gets to half the bottle? Thanks!
Hi Michelle! What do you think about sugar scrubs for KP?
They'd work similarly to pumice - I generally prefer them because the crystals dissolve and don't hang out on the bathroom floor!
Michelle I'm your fan / follower 😊
i find that if i have stubble anywhere on my body, it's prone to getting what seems like folliculitis. it's just like a slightly raised but also wide red spot with a hair sticking out of the middle, and it only happens on hair that's grown out so it's not ingrown. it also happens even if i use a trimmer instead of a razor. i try calming and exfoliating products but still have difficulty. i'm interested in the laundry detergent idea especially because i also wash pet stuff in my washing machine
What about using bleach instead of peroxides for laundry? Especially if it's just to sanitize the machine.
OxiClean is color-safe bleach in powder form and is primarily hydrogen peroxide, so it’s the best combo of factors. Also it’s great for stains other than laundry too.
Great thanks
One problem I have and I never found a solution, is the KP in the intimate area, the inside of the upper thigh. It's not like on the legs or arms, since it doesn't dry. The skin remains quite moist, but the hairs don't pierce through, and I get lots of whitish bumps, and unless I remove them by hand (not possible cause too many of them), they remain. I tried physical exfoliation, trying to remain delicate, and i'm afraid of chemical exfoliation in that area, since the skin is super thin.
do you think hypochlorous acid spray would work well on back acne? or like what would be the best treatment for it? feels like my skin is just too strong, I used high percentage heel balm for my cracked heels and that worked for like 1 day and I was back to square one. actually, do I need to use heel balms every day for them to have effect or is my skin just built different?
fantano reference in a body care video was not on my bingo card lol
Hello! I recently had a breakout of perioral dermatitis. There is so little info online, and it's so expensive to see a GP who might not know the best treatments either. Do you have any info?
There's some info here: ua-cam.com/video/399PRMvahWg/v-deo.html
oh i missed you
Superdrug in the UK has an own brand AHHa and salicylic acid body lotion.
Its next on my list
ooh I'd love a cheaper salicylic acid lotion so im gonna try that when I'm out
I have gone through so many tubes of exfoliant lotion for my KP.
I moved away from neutral and cool colours because my coworkers always asked if I was sick when I was wearing them 🤷🏻♀️ I have some old lipstick swatch posts on my blog if you want to see what they look like
@ yeah I remember a lipstick video of yours from years ago. Wait, let me find it.
What was that brand that you had trouble with because an influencer mentioned your name in their marketing video without your permission?
What are pregnant people?
The Centephil 2% sacylic acid one does it work?!! It doesn't foam up though it's less then 10$
22:52 that looks an awful lot like a German name, though I have never seen or heard of the brand.
Hola, buenas tardes
Good ol' microshield lol
I really just want a good body lotion or cream for older chicks like myself that wont make me feel greasy but moisturizes and makes my skin healthier. And cetaphil isnt it. CeraVe did nothing for me either.
Can u pls tell me what science says to do after I wax? I can’t use strong exfoliants because I wax every 3 weeks so when I’m supposed to exfoliate after waxing I’m like “what do I do?” This product called Finipil was recommended on reddit
Eta I’m blonde and can’t laser
Plz put arabic sub
