      Hey dude, i've been getting into streetfighter lately. I'm in love with zangief.
      But i only play world champion and alpha 2. I noticed that my inputs on alpha 2 are more consistent than in world champion. Is there a difference in the input window to do them properly?
      I also played sfV at the arcade, my inputs are 90% more consistent than compared to when i use the dpad.
      Could you help me learn how to practice spd on dpad too

      @@gfxb3177 hey man idk if you meant to reply to me but if you're asking if alpha 2 has more lenient inputs than the og sf2 and sf2ce than yea it does that's normal. Basically the more modern the sf game is the easier it is to do special moves. And I don't have a link for you bc UA-cam doesn't let us do that but if you search for something like a "combo trails with zangief pad tutorial" or "all combo trials for zangief" for sf4 or sfv there's tons of good videos of people showing hand cams and all that. Ik you mentioned you play older sf games but I don't know if any specific alpha 2 or sf2 players made good guides so I would look for some of those too but for now hopefully that wall of text can at least help a bit.

    As you can imagine, I play grapplers, a large number of them. All of them, even. It's the only 2d archtype I enjoy. I never knew about the 225 trick for SFV/USF4, I always go for the 270.
    I like the deliberate motions you use as well, all too often we fgc people try to APS our way through life, you remind us that things can be slow if well coordinated. Beyond excellent visual aids as well, and good use of your equipment. I hope more players find this and the charge character video.

    Very creative solution to film yourself and the stick at the same time with the tablet. I always appreciate the little visual elements you add that make your videos more easy to understand and pop. It's just that little bit of extra effort that blows my mind. You went as far as change your ball top to red to make the lever more visable, had a visual diagram prepared to show the math, loaded up a ton of games to show examples, and even put a little gief on the mic and on the pad. Keep up the good work, and I'll keep an eye out for the little details.

    Good tips. I would like to add two tips if I may:
    1) If your opponent has just knocked you over and they are stupid enough to be standing close to you as you wake up then rise right up with a piledriver. It's one of the easiest and most low-risk opportunities!
    2) On some editions of SF I have managed to pull off piledrivers after as little as a quarter circle motion - I kid you not. For example, I would accidentally get piledrivers when attempting to do the Banishing Flat.

    I remember playing SF2 in the arcades in the '90s. The only way I could do a walkup SPD was to manhandle the stick in the motion demonstrated in this video, but as fast as I could. It was a quick-snap motion. My hand would hurt after too many Gief matches and I probably looked a little spastic doing it.
    Here I am 25 years later and seeing you casually pull it off and I'm like man, that looks smooth and poetic compared to how I used to do it lol
    I'm guessing the animation of the step forward/backward gives you enough frames to push the stick upwards a bit w/o triggering a jump. Regardless, thx for the video. Not sure why it randomly appeared in my feed, but it brought back good memories :)

    I've known about the 270 for awhile now and have been doing that since 3rd Strike, but 225 definitely makes it easier and safe jump backwards on failure. The tip to train while walking cuts out the bad habit of always relyjng on buffering which ive always been doing.
    Also, your tip #2 is by far the best tip i have seen on any guide on SPD. The exrtra step forward on coverage makes a HUGE difference in ground coverage.
    I look forward to your next videos, they have been massively helpful

    I don't know if this was mentioned, but a lot of fight sticks have what's called a square restrictor gate. It's basically a piece of plastic that sits around y our joystick. The square ones are just that, square. It makes 360 inputs a little difficult to get off, especially during a match when you're having to react. These are easy to switch out for what I suggest, a octagonal restrictor gate. This has 8 directional slots instead of the 4 that a square gate has. Makes for a MUCH smoother SPD. Be warned though, having those little extra notches make it much easier for mistake inputs to happen.

    You didn't mention this in the video but I think the reason the 225 or 270 works is because the input needed has to cover all 4 cardinal directions (e.g. right, down, left, up if going clockwise) and instead of needing to rotate the stick fully, you're taking the shortest route to get all 4 directions input by going only from forward around to up-back. This basically clicks all the necessary directions. So if you imagine doing this in numberpad notation, it's 632147 for games that are more lenient, and 6321478 for games that are stricter, where I'm guessing the 7 (or that up-back) isn't fully recognized as "up". But the overall point is that a true 360 degree rotation (632147896) is never needed because once you get the stick to "up" (either in the corner, or fully) that's enough.

    • @victorwonder
      @victorwonder 3 роки тому

      That's interesting. I was just testing this in SF5 and I found out this is true. I tested this out starting from a jump animation. You can start in any of the 4 cardinal directions and it will work. So, if you start your input from UP and rotate clockwise, the final directional input should be LEFT (and vice-versa: start DOWN, rotate clockwise, finish RIGHT). I always thought you had to start the input either LEFT or RIGHT. This is awesome. I just found a way to do my 720 a bit easier for me thanks to this new insight :D
      So, I found this out a few months ago. In SF5, the 720 motion doesn't need to be completed in the same direction. You can do a 360 in one direction then reverse the direction for the extra 225 (total of 585, which hits all 4 cardinal directions TWICE). I was finding it so difficult not to accidentally jump when I'm doing 720s so I started experimenting and this worked, especially with buffering during light buttons because their animation finishes so fast :D
      Now I can make this even easier for myself. Now I don't have to start with a 360, I can start with a 270 (starting with UP input rotating downwards towards either LEFT or RIGHT), then reverse directions to finish the remaining 225 (total of 495 which still hits all 4 cardinal directions TWICE) in the opposite direction. Starting with an UP input is helping me avoid accidentally jumping at any stage of the input sequence since I only have to press UP once.
      Thanks Joe for that info :)

      You were able to do a pure naked walking 720? With out adding anything extra?

    • @victorwonder
      @victorwonder 3 роки тому

      @@JoystickNY Nope. I tried it many times. I tried starting 180 input then reversing the rotation for another 180 and finishing it with the extra 45 and it doesn't work. The first 180 only hits 3 cardinal directions. Starting with a 225 doesn't work because you'll accidentally jump when it hits the diagonal UP direction.
      I needed to start with a 270 which requires an UP direction so I needed something extra (jump, dash, buttons or block stun) so I can start the sequence with an UP direction without accidentally jumping.
      So for example, during a dash, I input this:
      ↑ ↖ ← ↙ ↓ ↘ → ↘ ↓ ↙ ← (↖ + P)

    Once you understand how directional motion REALLY works in streetfighter you will be very good at motion inputs. When in doubt, always remember...DIRECTIONAL INPUTS ARE "STICKY". Great video! World Heroes' Muscle Power got me into playing grapplers back in 93. I've always find the 360°/270° inputs more satisfying to pull off on arcade sticks. It was the 'tracing the gate of the lever' or half circle then (straight) up trick that always worked for me. But I get ridiculously frustrated when I try to pull off Raging Storm motions, and a few other notoriously hard motion inputs that SNK programmed for s**ts & giggles.

    Back in the 90s when I used to play SF2, one time I learned that Zangief's spinning piledriver could be performed by doing a reverse dragon, as I recall. So much easier than doing a full 360. As soon as I realised this I started playing Zangief for a change sometimes. One day shortly after, I was challenged by someone and I beat him. I was pretty happy to beat anyone using Zangief of all characters. I beat more and more people, and gradually a line formed. It was hilarious, no one could beat me that day.

      for the edits, You can also do the motion the other way from crouch block, going from DB to UB to UF to DF, depending on the attack you're defending against you have a decent amount of time to do the up motions before your character can move. And it'll end in down input so you don't accidentally jump by missing the attack input timing.
