My observations: rates & tactile: the more gentle you can be on the stick, with a faster initial acceleration in rate curve the more sbangy/snappy you can get the look, you do not need super high max rate, but lower expo and higher center make a huge difference. Tune: very important, get your filtering right to tolerate the carnage that will ensue as you practice, then keenly focus on the pids and don’t neglect your idle speed (smaller, more responsive prop, more idle required to stay locked and spin up for quick changes). Small props, max response, but poor TWR compared to a typical prop. Offset this with more rpm and faster throttle inputs (higher kv and more snappy, precise throttle inputs). Momentum first, “drive” the quad second. Get confident in your thrust vector angles before you slide out (lose grip), momentum generation, duration etc. Basic key moves to practice to build the foundation muscle memory to do more advanced stuff; flat yaw spins at various speeds(your fingers need to know how to mix the inputs, not “you”), skating (surfing/skating the ground with precise inputs and altitude control, lower is better), eject timing. Also, higher camera angle makes some things easier and some things much more difficult to coordinate cleanly. I don’t really “fly sbang” anymore and never got that good at it, but the process of trying to learn from emulating taught me a great deal about all manner of quad craft and has significantly influenced whatever the style of flying that is emerging from my well abused quads now. Just remember to have fun and if you find yourself spending 75%+ of your flying time chasing a tune or practicing higher altitude clean horizon stuff, it may be a time to step back and go do something different… also, visual reference is key, fly low, learn faster

Dude, thank you so much!! This will really help me exploring this style. My rates are currently at 1100° but with a pretty big amount of expo.

Thanks for all the details! I'm now trying this rates: 0.53-0.79-0 betaflight or converted into actuals 60-500-0.55.
I like the amount of control on fine movements at center stick, but i'm kinda struggling on
      - getting the rotation speed to be constant
      - as you mentioned the "snap" on starting the rotation
      - those kind of "glitch moves" like pausing the rotation for a split-second or even reversing the rotation
i tend to be more on the fast-slow-fast movements rather by snap-constant rotations
I'll try changing the rates maybe with higher input in the center will be better

I run actual rates 70/600/.10 p/r and 120/500/.0 now days but I used to run anywhere between 200-320 center, 800 max and .25 expo on p/r and 220/650/.10 on yaw. That can be a bit terrifying at first, especially with loose sticks (I keep my yaw axis kind of floppy and p/r are a fair bit looser than stock), but you get used to it. I don't recommend going crazy with stick tension unless you want more of a flow style though. Flying loose works very, very well, for a nice flow feel where you're basically always giving inputs, but for pauses on sbang moves, it can bite you in the ass big time.

Some of these things I have observed.
Tune - If you tune to the almost limit you will get locked in control of the quad and therefore it will show during your flying. I spend the time tuning everything from 9" to tiny whoops.
Rates - The more linear you rates are, you will look a little more robotic, if that is your desire. I ran them for a long time myself but it made it more difficult to shoot through gaps as it was so twitchy. I am now using more relaxed with expo.
Action camera - camera settings can also contribute to a more robotic look as well. Auto shutter, instead of use ND filters, cuts down on the motion blur so it has a certain look. I flip between the two settings.

Practicing rewinds in the sim is huge. Once you get the rewinds down you can throw different versions of them everywhere. And for camera angle you can use anything but 10 degrees lends itself to sbang better I think.

tune: use ultra v2 high, exp on, everything 100% (SW AF BF)
rate: try to linier rate ,, I use 1.9, 0.45, 0.03 (don't tell Krunked if I break the rules LOL)

I was studying sbang for months. I sort of gave up though it's so hard. I got stuck on rewinds, and flying low, I just can't master those things. My rewinds are never clean I always have to over-rotate which ruins the effect. I think as far as the style goes, you have to think of your quad like it's on a spring or like it's charging up a power meter, or a fish on a fishing hook, you play it out, do arcs and then do a trick at the end of the spring. It's a lot like pop and lock dancing, listen to James brown while flying or MJ.
I think a super light drone is key, I've had my best sbangy flights with a sub250(or nearly) 5 inch racing drone 2500kv motors and 55a esc, with super high thrust to weight ratio. I think that drone could go over 100 mph if I flat outed it. but I crashed it and smoked the motors so I went for a slightly less agressive build and am having a lot harder time now.
You can totally do sbang with a slow low thrust to weight as well, I think it's just harder to get the look, or you get just like a slowed down version of the style. I saw one guy sbanging with a whoop I think and it was really interesting cause all the same moves and style was there it was just in slow motion.
I think lower or even flat angle on your camera allows you to get easier reverses and flatter inverted spins, but makes it super hard to trippy spin, I'm still experimenting with finding the right angle too.

    • @_REMIE
      @_REMIE  11 місяців тому +1

Oh wow, thanks for this breakdown of you findings! My quad is fairly light, I don't fly with an action cam. But far from 250gr haha.
I've been practicing some moves the past 2 days. Mainly focussing on incorporating the snappy moves in my current flying, went pretty well.
I do find it hard to follow tutorials. I find it easier to watch a video and do what I feel like I should be doing. Doesn't always give the right results, but maybe is a good thing in terms of developing my own flying instead of copy/paste an other pilot.

Ow man. This hits me hard (im being dramatic) When i saw that some of your favorite pilots were d3b8 and phantom i knew that i would like your style. But now you are moving away from it and thats sad, there are not many people flying the abrupt style that i like. Now everything is super smooth and with music over propnoise. He man, you've been following me for a bit already so cool! I understand, I still like D3B8. The way he rips is getting unique, it's a lot of flow these days.
I still like the agressive side of FPV flying. I'm not really into the flowstuff like Bubby, Fenix, ect. Offcourse these guys are absolutely bonkers when it comes to skills. But at the moment I like watching pilots like BlackBird FPV.
