I noticed that my husband always wears things he buys almost immediately whereas I was always buying for my fantasy self. So now I ask myself before buying something “will you wear this tomorrow”? If the answer is no then don’t buy it.

That’s a really good idea. Another point for articulation. I’m going to steal that idea!

I feel you on the personal style journey, particularly following a move and lifestyle change. I've gone down my own Kibbe rabbit hole and much of it makes out like the types are strictly defined and with set rules on what you should and shouldn't wear, whereas Kibbe himself says the types are more like general guidelines, you can totally use elements of different styles that aren't necessarily your type. Everyone's body is slightly different, as well as their personality, preferences and lifestyle, the process of personal style is more creative, intuitive and artistic than a lot of Kibbe content shows - this is probably as much to do with the fact that it makes the information clearer and easier to understand, as anything else. You're obviously someone with an already strong personal style, you seem to be getting there in terms of working out what fits into your life and makes you feel the most 'you', your style is a lot more coherent than you think it is. Like you say, accessories, make-up, hair and nails make a huge difference, a lot of the old Hollywood stars wore similar items but styled them in a way that suit their image. Do you know thealignedlover? She has deep dives into celebrities personal styles and show how people of the same type can dress really differently.

I love this and can totally relate to what you mean about the three elements you need to feel like yourself. I've been the same way my whole life - I need to feel sensual, edgy, and feminine. Sometimes that means that the only strong feminine part of my outfit is my hair/makeup/nails (a la mid nineties Gwen Stefani in tomboy outfits or Princess Diana in sweatshirts, biker shorts, and scrunchy socks). Sometimes the edge I need is throwing a chunky knit over a corset or a clunky unexpected shoe with a dress. I love that you went into how certain combos that lack one element can lean so far into an extreme that it compensates for the missing piece. Right there with you! Hot take but I don't necessarily think the Kibbe audience is a forum of outstanding style/fashion. It's a great place for status quo and mainstream styles. As a fellow lover of the avant-garde, the weird, high fashion, music culture, design, etc. I found Kibbe groups less than inspiring nor did I really see myself reflected in the conversations/inspo. It's great knowledge to use as a jumping off point though. And essences are really where it's at after that! Love Ellie Jean! I'm a Fire, Moon, Stone. Have you watched any Gabrielle Arruda? Her stuff is great and is based on the approach you have realized works for you! Anyway - long story short - love your content and am always stoked to see a new vid. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and journey :)

Yeah I think you and I are definitely on the same page! I feel like sometimes if you lean so far into the masculine element it starts to juxtapose and highlight the femininity of your body. It’s so wild how all of these elements work together! And have seen some of Gabrielle’s stuff, it’s great!

Glad you took the time to update us on your fashion journey! What you mentioned in the video is EXACTLY what I was struggling with! I don't know the system you mentioned, but it's basically style words from what you said. I have a video where I say the SAME thing as you do, that I don't feel like myself in some outfits, even if they are cute, and that's because they don't have enough of my style words! I'm also editing a new video where I talk more about style words and thought it was a coincidence that this was basically your theme this week.
Excited about your upcoming video about the hip height! This is also something that I just started paying attention to!

I had a similar experience with my style journey as an SD, i bought a lot of beautiful fancy dresses and now i kind of regret it because i don’t have a lot of cute dressy but casual comfy clothes that i need for everyday. My fancy dresses are in the closet and they come out one or twice a year.. 😅. Next time i’m going to focus on more wearable styles. But it’s ok, i guess it’s part of the journey. Just like you i now have a pretty good idea what i like and look good in. Before i was really lost in the fashion department. I love your hair up like this with the scarf by the way! Really cute! Enjoying your videos! ❤

Kibbe type shows you the lines and structure, you can add your style on top of that to create your look

Yes of course but I guess I wasn't articulating myself well here (or rather, I did talk at great length but had to edit it down so I think this point got missed). I already knew what lines worked for me in general but the body analysis I paid for and spending so much time interacting with kibbe content did not end up helping much because all they did was recommend the same styles. I think Soft Dramatic is one of the trickier types if you want to dress in a modern or alternative way and most kibbe content creators kind of gloss over the type and then add in one picture of Sofia Vergara in blue jeans from 2014 to say see, soft dramatic can be casual too. I haven't seen any actual good recommendations in any kibbe content that isn't very retro/pinup or looking like a trophy wife who shops exclusively from the Victoria Secret clothing catalog. So in the end focusing so much energy overthinking the kibbe stuff wasn't super helpful. It did make me realize the WHY behind what I already knew did and did not work, and that's valuable (similar to the articulation thing I talked about) but the energy spent with that content ultimately got me too much in my head about it. I'm not done with kibbe and I have another video planned on the subject but in general I think kibbe content derailed me a bit

@@LexiLadonna okay I understand now what your saying, thanks for explaining. I am also a soft dramatic (5'9") and yes your right the femme fatal look is what people push on us. I have not had my colours done yet but in regards to clothing you would follow the lines and structure but then add more alternative prints and colours that are Edgy for example you may like a leopard print coat with leather boots (Rocker chic esthetic) to make it fit a soft dramatic body it may look like this = long large leopard print wrap coat , leather boots with a pointy toe instead of rounded and a larger sized bag (clutch with hardware or a black tote with structure as an example
If you like biker jackets then you can get one that is belted to sinch in your waist
Faux fur vests are soo glamorous but still Edgy if you get a darker colour and add different accessories to it and wear it with a pointy toe flats
Necklines that are open are great. Example V neck band tee tucked into high waisted boot cut pants or skinny jeans
