This is precisely my body shape. I have long legs, a very short torso due to my high hips, and my butt is only slightly perky because I work out. But even at my fittest my fat accumulates around my hip area and the back area right above my butt, which is super frustrating because I feel like I am doing the most and I still don’t look like I want to. My only solution would be to get Lipo around those areas to create more of a defined silhouette but I can’t afford it lol 😂 but my gosh I feel seen! I didn’t know so many girlies struggled with this! Finding flattering clothes is always so hard too!

I have been feeling so insecure for so long because I hated my body shape. I always thought the hips were lower and that I just didn't have any. But for the first time I see my body in a new light that isn't negative, unattractive or ugly. I feel so seen! Thank you for this video!!

WOW, I FINALLY found someone with my hips that can actually give me advice on clothes. I love flowy skirts but gathered waists look
awful on me. I DO wear longer tops to hide my large belly. It's about time I found the answers for my high hips--I'm 73 and I am just finding my style!

this is by far the best video on this subject I have ever seen. I am impressed not only by the style advises, but also by all your the explanations and visuals you prepared. An absolute must for every women who feels uncomfortable about her high hips. I understood my body shape only some years ago (I am in my 40ies) and indeed, I regret this happened that late. Thanks a lot, I am going to subscribe and once again, congrats. Great job.

thank you for this video. You described the exact issues I have with clothing. I have been busting my brain trying to find something I could look good in. I never understood why I looked so curvy naked but in clothes I look 20 pounds heavier and boxy. I miss the 80s where jeans had a MUCH higher rise, I used to live in Rockies and crop tops as a teen.

I’m so glad I found this video. I always thought these were love handles that just never go away. It wasn’t until yesterday when I had a consultation for liposuction to remove them when the doctor told me these were actually my hips. But it looks so bad since my butt area is so small and it makes me have a V shaped butt. It’s a nightmare and dressing like this is so helpful !😊

this video really helped me. I have, in my opinion, some of the ugliest looking high hips that don't match the rest of my body at all. I've been super insecure about them for a while now. I have a super small waste then very wide high hips then it dips back down towards my butt. I'm glad I found this video though so now I'll look for clothes that fit my body type. I'm young so I still got a lot of ways to go 💜

This video honest to god changed my life. The other day I was wondering why just never looked good when I tucked my shirt into my jeans. People would say it made me look wider 😭 I didn’t have pronounced hip dips but I knew that my body just didn’t suit many of the clothes and cuts that are trendy or flattering, it just made me look ‘frumpy’ no matter what weight I was, or would make my butt look like it was tucked UNDER my body. What I did know was that A-line dresses or baby-doll dresses always looked stunning on me. Miraculously almost Nobody on the internet (influencers etc) has the same body type as me, and I’ve only seen it on one other woman. Then i realised that I could feel my hip bones at the same level as my belly button, and I typed up “high hips” on Google last night wondering if that was the reason… and Lo and behold this video came up. I have never felt so understood. We have the *exact* same body type. High and wide trochanter that’s parallel to the ilium flare. It’s mind blowing. I feel like I can finally start to love and embrace my body instead of fighting it. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

  • @Jamie-lx9ig

Thank you for the video, I don't see a lot of people talking about this particular shape combination, and the fitting accommodations it needs. I've also come to the conclusion that the reason why so many clothes don't work for me is because of a high-wide hip bone that's sitting very close to the ribcage, and results in having a wide waist, regardless of weight. For years I kept thinking that it was because of weight that I couldn't wear the styles I liked, but I'm finally realizing that it has nothing to do with size, and whether I'm at a normal weight or overweight it doesn't affect the particular fit issues I'm having. The biggest offenders are separates, like skirts and trousers, and the problem is two-fold: 1) the size that fits my hips is too small for my waist, and even if I size up, or even if the waist fits because of, say, an elastic band, the fabric basically juts out at the hipbone, creating an unflattering tent-like effect, 2) the proportions are off, because the narrowest point of my waist is right under my chest and then almost immediately goes from ribcage to hips, even those high waisted trousers that can deal with the long rise and sit without falling off, create a unbalanced proportion of looking like going from boobs->legs (like the example you've shown in the video). It's *really* hard finding separates that work, and I even had the same problem with dresses (especially the jutting out tent shape). The styles that I've found work the best are: dresses with an empire waist (because they are narrower right beneath the chest and then flare out from there), and certain high waist trousers with an elastic panel at the belly area (because I can get away with my usualy size and not having to size up and then tailor). A lot of clothes can give us a rectangular and wider shape, and finding things that work is A Process...

I have bella hadid hips and you explain this magnificently. I recently discovered I'm an hourglass figure but didn't know this because of hip dip, which made me refrain from wearing tight dresses guess i didn't want to pronounce them. I lost so much weight till at a point of my life I was 48 kgs and my hips were still defined and I just learned that's just my body shape and learned new ways how to look great with them. Marylin Monroe, Sharon Tate and Sophia Loren all have hip dips and they're considered the epitome of feminine beauty.

My hip bone reaches my belly button... needless to say I never know how to dress. I generally prefer dresses that flare up right after the boobarea or that have a larger bottom, skirts look like a triangle on me, literally. For pants I just go with flares or very very high pants and I then I put shirts on that are long so they fall over my hips since my legs are 60% of my height, therefore my torso is very short. My ass is neither big nor small but it’s pretty low, actually very low, ideal for conventional low waist pants. I'm pretty skinny, bmi is around 19 and im 179 cm tall, 5'12" and I'm still growing. I just feel i look so weird in everything, i don't want this to be another insecurity. Thank you for talking about high hips, I can never find anyone doing so

I love this. I have high hips and consequently a short waist. I employ a lot of these tips intuitively, although I favour narrower belts as I'm only 5' 1" (Kibbe R rather than SD) and the heaviness of thicker belts overwhelm me. The one problem I have never found a cure for is how tops give me a fabric hunchback, as my short waist and full bust always mean too much fabric on the back and zips are always way too long!
    Some great ideas, thank you.

    • @LexiLadonna
      @LexiLadonna  Рік тому +1

I have the same problem with too much fabric around the back of the neck! Some times I'll pin things (but it looks weird) and I've also taken a few things to get tailored with mixed results. The shoulders and neck area can be tricky to tailor! TBH it's one of the many reasons I usually only buy clothes that I can try on first in a store .
And that totally makes sense about the small belts! Bigger details work better for me as an SD but small belts definitely sound like a better choice for more petite people.

So glad I found this, there is hardly any info on this and I've always wondered why my clothes can sometimes make me look frumpy. I have hips that aren't on that chart, so I have high Illium flare and high and wide trochanter. Another 'issue' is that I also have a tiny waist so clothes for my bottom half, especially pants, is a nightmare mainly because my waist and hips are about 2 sizes apart and my hips jut out instantly from my waist. I love what you said about the tops and it makes so much sense to me now! I look great in a crop, it never looks cropped on me and makes my waist look nice but 'normal' tops, if they don't fit super tight just billow and pull around my hips and make me look frumpy. I feel validated! 💕

I'm 5' 11", 'short waisted" with wide, high hips and a full butt. Along with big boobs, it very challenging trying to buy anything to fit my body type. Even when I was 125 lbs (very underweight), a lot of styles just didn't fit my body properly. I was skinny but no discernible body shape. After a while, I gave up and wore whatever I felt like and I still do to this day. I prefer slim pants, not skinny jeans. Boot cut, wide leg and flare are awful on me. I'm all legs (35" inseam) so I also prefer longer styles which apparently aren't in style. Longer tops and tees not tucked in. A blazer or duster cardi if tucked in. We learn to go with what we have.

As a home seamstress, it was a staggering moment when years ago I realized I had high hips. We really need to look at our bodies and think about why clothes don’t fit or are pulling in a certain area. I’m so glad to see you addressing this fit topic, which is ignored so often. Another area is darts for the bust. Almost nothing has darts anymore but they are essential to fitting non-stretch material over the bustline. Otherwise it pulls at the armhole in an unattractive way.

My worst jeans with ultra high hips are low-rise skinny jeans.
My best look is dark colored stiff fabric pleated skirts with ultra wide waist band and criss-crossed back suspender straps. I get the waistband in a size large enough for sitting, and the suspender straps hold the skirts above my high hip bones. Then I wear a lighter colored blouse with sleeve ruffles near the shoulders.

My lumbar spine is a bit hunched back (if I express that right in english, that very common kinda duck-look in profile😄🦆), so when I look from the front my hips look ”normal” in lack of a better word. But when I look in profile- I think this really affects the overall look, the way I carry clothes, the way it drapes on my body, no matter the weight.
I always wondered why the profile is not taken into consideration in the kibbe method for example. To me an item can give a totally different vibe when seen only from the front. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on that.

It also explains why I’ve very rarely had compliments in pants, but get them in dresses and skirts…just not the body con type.
My hips are high, dippy and narrow, and you did a great observation about how many with high hips have flat butts. I’m okay with my flat butt, because it’s Eurocentric, and I’m proud of my European heritage.
About the crotch curve on many pants and shorts, I tend to get the camel toe wedge, but sometimes sagging in the seat of the pants at the same time.
Leggings are problematic for me, because I always get bad camel toe and uncomfortable wedging into the crotch. I wonder how most people wear them all the time and don’t get that problem, like, is it a high hip problem?

So at 15 1/2, I kept dieting and exercising until I was skin and bone, and the pelvis was still the same as when the fat covered it.

Yeah our butt is flat because our high hip stores the fat in muffin top

Ok, I have high hips. But I cannot wear highrise. I look better when my pants are midrise. Lowrise works as well, as my butt is low compared to my hips. Yeah, that is a thing too ;)

@@LexiLadonna right? I totally agree. And as I get older I embrace my body more. And try to help others do the same. We come in all sizes and shapes. And we are worth so much more then trying to be the body shape of a trend. My poor mom grew up in the twiggy phase, not ideal for a person with the perfect hourglass.

You were just far too hot for the military - theys were just jealous obviously! The mid 2000s were a rough time for women's body image, but thankfully things have moved on some thanks to campaigns surrounding body positivity for women. Unfortunately it seems that rather than us all becoming more accepting, the emphasis on body shaming has now shifted on to men - especially certain groups e.g. those less tall than average, non-white ethnicity etc. Society is increasingly treating certain groups of men very badly for physical traits beyond their control. There is little or no support network for them - and certainly no body positivity movements for them. Society takes the view that men shouldn't show weakness, so the idea of men talking about their feelings is usually stigmatized. Consequently lots of men internalise this and some can suddenly erupt in acts of violence when they reach breaking point. Others self harm in various ways. The male suicide rate in adults below the age of 45 is currently notably higher than any other demographic. We as a society need to take this problem seriously. I applaud you for being so open about the topic generally. Thanks for your video.
