    I love watching these pilots when they go over their checklist and while they do that and their debriefing, they explain and show us everything they do. Beautiful plane from the outside and in. I love the outside plane spotting view and the cockpit view as well. Beautiful sunset for this flight and an awesome takeoff that sounds great. Beautiful view outside this window with amazing landscape and coastline. I love it, awesome video.

    Tremendous, precise preparation. As a passenger, this is exactly what we hope is happening on the flight deck prior to the flight. I especially appreciated the FO’s review of the overhead panel presets and the Captain’s meticulous review of the takeoff backup procedures. The atmosphere of excellent Crew Resource Management was evident. I thought the Captain’s tone of inclusion of the FO as a valued member of the team while maintaining a gentle tone of mentor ship was in great balance. Likewise, the FO’s balance of having responsibility and the authority to complete those responsibilities was evident, implying trust from both left to right seat as well as right to left seat. From a production POV, the exterior shots of this beautiful craft performing its take-off roll while cutting the interior perspectives in was very effective. Thanks to all who contributed to this video. It makes me wish to fly aboard the Dreamliner.

    why is it better to run APU than use groud power?

    • @patrickmitchell6968
      @patrickmitchell6968 3 роки тому +1

      Here are some answers I found:
      "-The APU is started just after the flight crew enter the flight deck for the flight, so that the aircraft can have self contained power, and also provide air conditioning to make the passengers happy when they board
      -The APU is then switched off after the engines have been started, as now the engines are providing air conditioning and electrics, so there's no need for the APU, but make sure you have the generators and bleed air switches on for the engines before disconecting the APU!! :-)
      -The APU is next switched on just after the landing, usually while vacating the runway, this is to prepare the aircraft for engine shutdown so that air conditioning and electrics will still be available, once again, make sure you have the APU bleed air and generators switched on before shutting down the engines.
      -The APU is then switched off once the flight crew have finished with the airplane and ground power is connected."
      "External power is not really a very reliable power source, it has a lot of fluctuations that could cause the relays to reject that power source. If you don't have the APU running, this could result in a cold cockpit quite fast. Not very ideal when you are aligning the IRS's or setting up the FMS. So some flight crews start the APU right after getting inside the cockpit, and disconnect ground power right after that, as the APU is a very stable power source."
      From what I can gather, a lot of it depends on airport policies on APU usage as well as company policy.
      I understand the 787 is very reliant on electrical power (it uses electrical power instead of bleed air for some systems), so a clean reliable source is more critical I guess.

    • @393nimit
      @393nimit 3 роки тому

      @@patrickmitchell6968 If required, can all the auxiliary equipment be run on ground power?
      Because, quite a few airlines do connect ground power to their air crafts. What might be the possible use of ground power in these case?

    • @patrickmitchell6968
      @patrickmitchell6968 3 роки тому

      @@393nimit Just to let you know that I'm by no means an expert, just an enthusiast. To answer your question. In theory I think so. However, remember in addition to electrical power, the aircraft (and passengers as they board) needs air conditioning. Ground power alone would not provide that. You would have to attach external A/C. With the APU running, it can provide the bleed air for the PACKS to provide air conditioning. Now I'm not sure if the 787 requires bleed air for the PACKS. It's new and fancy and uses electrical power for things that used to be run on bleed air - like I mentioned in my first reply.

    • @393nimit
      @393nimit 3 роки тому

      @@patrickmitchell6968 Same here.
      I often see planes where the APU is switched on as well as the power lines are connected. Cannot comprehend the use case in such scenario.

    • @patrickmitchell6968
      @patrickmitchell6968 3 роки тому

      @@393nimit In such a scenario, I would imagine the APU would be providing bleed air for the PACKS (air conditioning) as ground power doesn't do that. Only if you connected an external source of air conditioning then you probably wouldn't need the APU. Also remember in most planes you need a source of bleed air to start the engines and the easiest place to get it is the APU. You can start externally, but that requires a compressor or something to provide the high pressure air.
