    Hi all, Just so you know I have not had this TV now for over a year and a half! Although I hope this video has helped, and I appreciate the questions - there isn't any way I can answer any more as I don't have it! It died (again) shortly after this video was done, and it went to the recycling centre. Sorry I can't be of more help!

    With all due respect to Komodo it seems he's elected for a trial and error method to repair this unit, which could end up costing you more than you need to spend and could lead you to damaging replacement parts.
    This for me as soon as I seen the fault, it was a main board issue, the start-up chip was probably corrupted and forgot half of it's instructions - Vestle main boards are particularly bad for this.
    With this model (or any other with a Vestle main Board) where you get a flashing standby where it flashes continually or flashes and then returns to standby - it's always a main board fault.
    When you order a main board you need to order the exact same part number which is printed on the board but also match THE SCREEN NUMBER which will be on a sticker on the metal chassis and for these models the number will start with VES - if it's a 32 inch it'll start with VES320##### - if it's a 43 inch it'll start with VES430###### - now after the main number you may also get rev###### or other additional info especially on this toshiiba model - so this is very important...
    **** You need to match the exact screen number - all of it - otherwise the picture will look like it did in this video. ****
    It's highly unlikely that the T-con board needed replaced at all.
    I say this having literally repaired thousands of TVs - this model I know to be particularly problematic as if you don't match the model, main board part number and the screen number exactly - you will get what looks like a tcon/screen fault when the unit powers up.

      I had noooo idea what I was doing - but it seemed like a good idea at the time!! Anyway, it only worked for a week after I 'fixed' it :(

      @@RetroKomodo if it was the exact same fault as original then I'd be asking the question, is the customer experiencing any power surges, have they bought or repositioned any other electrical item which has a high switching current or had an issue with a nearby appliance having an earth fault.
      Or as the main was 2nd hand, maybe it was at the end of its life - these vestle main boards are bad for corruption as if they have zero shielding from emf.
      ** I just seen you replied elsewhere you bought a bunch of boards to fix it a second time but were unsuccessful.
      That's strange. I'm willing to bet if you'd stripped the unit down and replaced the TV backlights it would have fired up - unless there was visible damage on the mainboard about a 1/2 inch away from the black connector - then I'd say someone sold you duff board or you replaced the power board which was the correct part number but the transformer colour wasn't the same...😉
      That's how they get ya...
      Boards may have the same part number but they're not all the same - leave it to the Pros - oh and just saying, Sony TVs - great screens which means great picture but really bad for irreparable screen faults and if the main has an android OS - really bad for corruption which means a replacement is really hard to find and very, very expensive - a vestle main about 16 quid - some of these Sony mains are north of 120 quid.
      Fingers crossed.
      (Stick with LG and Samsung - reliable or at least common as muck and so cheap to fix)

      Have Tosh similar boards, turns on but picture is very dim sometimes with bottom lines.
      Have replaced SP, T-con boards but didn't help.
      Could this be the main board?

    • @thedarkweeally
      @thedarkweeally Рік тому

      @@paulhotson5820 Ok - for black vertical or horizontal lines - unless you haven’t relocated the ribbons properly in either the main board connection, the t-con connectors or the screen driver connection (you may have accidently pulled them when trying to fit replacement T-Cons) then this speaks to a screen fault, in that the gold tabs have begun to separate from the screen.
      However you haven’t told me (I don’t think or at least it’s not clear) what the original fault was - if the original fault was black lines and dim screen - I’d say - the party’s over - the screen’s done - you need a new TV, however if it was something else then detail it, the steps you took to correct it, when the dim screen started, and when the black lines started - all that is helpful info. As well as the TV model and main board part no - if a vestle board it’ll start with 17MB****-* Because the way you describe it sounds like two faults - backlights and screen. However I don’t know if the blacklines were there before you started replacing parts - do you understand? A wee bit more detail and I’m sure we can identify the fault - not saying it can be repaired - but…
      As a rule though - NO - a main board fault will not cause black lines, if the connection between the main board and T-Con/Driver Boards/Screen has been disturbed then possibly and it would be a simple case of reseating them, but if the gold tabs between the driver board and screen have been damaged then I’m afraid it sounds terminal

    Great to save this from the bin. Sad though to see those "fake" Toshiba TVs already fail while the ones from when Toshiba was still the original Japanese brand I know about being in use by friends and family are still going strong despite being already up to 15 years old.

    • @RetroKomodo

      Alas it did not live for much longer.. within a week it happened again, and I bought a bunch of spare parts to try fixing it a second time. But it was dead. So I got the owner a replacement Sony TV from Facebook marketplace and it works fine! It was also cheaper than all the parts I bought for the Toshiba :(

    • @armorgeddon
      @armorgeddon 2 роки тому +1

      @@RetroKomodo Oh ok, that's disappointing of course after all that effort went in. And indeed, spair parts like T-Con boards can be expensive and they are sadly usually model specific. Hopefully that Sony you bought will last longer. Greets!

      Unfortunately all I can suggest is to open it up, remove boards from inside, then find one with matching model numbers on eBay - that's what I did - just replaced boards with second hand ones. Of course the TV died again after about 2 weeks.. The TV is long gone, so sorry I can't be of more help!

      Hi there! The things I ordered were a Vestel 17MB110P main board, and about five TCON 32T42-C0K boards. It ended up breaking again soon after, so it might be a waste of money trying to fix it! Getting these parts also might not fix it.. You may be better off finding a replacement. Sorry I can't help more!
