Lee Duncan, from KYNO Fresno, was right. “Spooky“ will become Dennis Yost and the Classics IV first hit song. It sits at #23 today and will go on to peak at #3 next month.
I love the C-IV and this song, but it looks like it might be a bit hard to dance to (and it’s so new, it’s possible some them might have never even heard it before). Even regulars Jim Lyle and Robin Morris (RIP) look a little "low-energy" here (move those feet Robin! :). I thought the black couple in the back were the best of the 3 pairs and should’ve had more camera time.
What’s your favorite Classics IV song? Mine is “Everyday With You Girl”.
Brought to you by @jthyme and @YCDTI!
Thank you for spending a few minutes in 1968 with me!
As a 60+ year living room dancer, I decided to give it a go myself after seeing them struggle. I didn't have any trouble finding the moves. 🙂
A little Shing-a-ling, Boogaloo, Skate and Funky Broadway.
Mix it up and you get 1968 dance style.
"Spooky" was probably a brand new song in 1968, which made it difficult for these kids to comfortably dance to it back then.
Good story
Just LOVE The Bandstand Shows from California ‼️ I was 9 years old when this was aired but I never missed an episode until I turned 17. Thanks for the MEMORIES Aaron. An Absolutely Lovely start to the Super Bowl Weekend and Thanks A Million times Again from Abilene Texas 🤠😎🏈‼️
Chiefs or Eagles tomorrow?
@@YCDTI Well.... Since MY BOYZ aren't playing and I'm in TEXAS 🤠😎. THE CHIEFS 🤣🤣‼️
@@YCDTI I remember this tune early 2/68 , hearing it on Philly's WFIL Famous 56 . I was 10 in the 5th grade .
Sad that about mid3/68 I lost a relative in SouthVietnams Central Highlands , tail end of bloody TET , 10 days b-4 my 11th bday.
This tune came out around TET in NAM. And, on a lighter note , who would you think I root for in 2/12/2023 SuperBowl ?
HINT: what radio station did I hear this great tune on ?
@@YCDTI Aaron i make it my business in being careful on controversial opinions and may take a few kicks in the pants but this was the worse year for officials deciding on outcomes of games..
Dick Clark has got to be the most verbose host of a program ever. Very wordy fellow filled with cliches. I'll bet he loved hearing the sound of his voice. If anyone remembers the Lloyd Thaxton Show Lloyd was a far better host of a teen dance show than Clark. He was unique funny inventive and showcased especially the kids and guests of his 1961-1968 teen dance show, not himself. Dick Clark compared was rather a bore. Both though were extremely smart business men.
I missed this wonderful show
Great song, but I can see the dancers are really having trouble getting into the Groove. I never knew that Spooky went back to the late 60's. Anyways thanks Aaron and Jthyme, always love seeing these late 60's clips, hope more are coming.
I was 13 in Dec 68. This is still great song. A lot of great music came out in the 60's
Hard to dance to but a great song. It needs some moonwalks,
Spooky was not a real fav..just a bit .... sexy sound.
Always liked this...and the Atlanta Rhythm Section cover of this is also great.
Thank you Aaron and Gary.I enjoyed you guys time and work.I also think the black couple looked like they had smooth moves. Am looking forward as always for the next clip....
Spooky is my favorite. Atlanta Rhythm Section did a great version about 10 years later.
Well, Aaron and Gary, it's a treat anytime you post a clip that has the great Robin Morris featured. The quick-witted Robin could match anyone toe-to-toe with her comedic banter. Might have something to do with the fact that Robin and Aaron share the same birth month and day. Thanks you guys for today's upload! BTW: The YCDTi! channel's site page and arrangement has been visually spiffed up. Looking good!
And i believe sometime next month i will tip a PABST BLUE RIBBON to you sir!!!!!
@@gregmoore7709 LOL Greg, it's just a few mystery days sooner. Always count me in for an ice cold Pabst!
Hi Don, in the few clips we have of Robin talking, you can tell she had a great wit. I wish we had more.
I’m cleaning up descriptions, thumbnails and working with YT to up-convert (or whatever the term is) older videos - decreasing pixelation and to create better quality video viewing. I’ve noticed YT gives a lot more of these options with more subscribers. Thank you for noticing and (I HATE it when , in every YT video, they tell you to “like and subscribe”…duh) and thanks to everyone that’s subscribed as it helps make the channel better. 👍 📺 🕺
@@YCDTI I loved that clip of Robin Morris answering her name as Dick Clark. That had me in stitches.
@dancer don Hey hey Don, good to see you here, man!!!
Even with their "low energy" dancing, I can tell you here and now, that was MUCH BETTER dancing than I ever did! I don't have two left feet.......I have two left tree stumps!!
Hi Gary, yeah, to be clear, if I’d have been a teenager here, I’d have been hiding in the very back of the bleachers during the Spotlight dance. I think I can do ok dancing to Spooky now, alone, in my living room, with no giant cameras in my face. I’ll record myself and post it. 😂😂😂
@@YCDTI 😅😅😅😅😅 We'll be waiting for that video!!
@jthyme a couple of dances with the talented ladies of Bandstand would cure that left-footedness you alluded to. NOPE. Don't sell yourself short.
Watching these videos I know one thing for certain. When it came time to "Rate A Record" I would keep far away from the risers! With the unpredictable nature, unfamiliarity and often just plain difficult song to dance to I would want to be hiding in a corner ha ha. Now, Don was a good dancer and brave so he did not shy away from the riser and could pull it off....see Rango.
@@bradsense7431 Well bradsense, “Rango” just won’t go away. LOL Now, 56 years later, it’s a slice of Bandstand that we can all chuckle about. Hey, never think about hiding in a corner. There were countless couples who were dealt an unexpected and unfamiliar song to dance to. Just go with the flow knowing that everyone else had to deal with odd tunes played. There were times when we’d joke that the segment could have been called “Wreck-a-Record” rather than RAR. HA!
One of five songs I used to wind down from high school every day on the drums in 68 and 69 ! One of my top 3 rock songs of all time !
Thank you dear Aaron. Great song and video.
Hey Aaron! Love this song! The Classics IV were different for the time, yet still relevant. They had such a cool sound without doing too much. This song always gets overshadowed by "Stormy" when they are brought up in music conversations, but this song is a heavy hitter as well.
I enjoyed the more laid back style of the 3 couples here. Not really much else you can do to this song but be chill.
Thanks, as always, for the quality AB content, Aaron!
We always danced to this song like a slow song. Holding each other but dancing faster.
Another great find today! Yes, it may have been too hard to dance. The cover about 10 years later by Atlanta Rhythm Section may have been a better to dance to. Keep up the good work!
Atlanta Rhythm Section were originally formed out of the remnants of the Classics IV.
@@AdrianDeVore How ironic
@@kbobdonahue1966 It was ironic.
Dennis Yost quit a voice nice sax
Enjoyed this video. Thank you Aaron.
Aaron you set this one up nicely after last weeks video featuring another Classic 4 which had me confused😏 I love the Classics IV and my favorite would song would have to be Traces. I did get to see The Atlanta Rhythm Section, which had members from the Classics IV, perform Spooky in concert in February 1977. They opened for ZZ Top on their "World Wide Texas Tour" Thanks again to you and jthyme.
Shouldn't this episode be over on the "You Can't Dance to It" channel?? 🤔😉
Typical 1968, Dancing. I was 13 yrs old.
Good song for listening to, not easy to dance to. Good video,as usual. Thanks
🧭🏉🤩🤑😝
The real Classics IV here, not the Classic 4. Robin is dancing like her shoes are nailed to the floor. My favorite Classics IV song is "Traces", even though it came out when I was in 7th grade I didn't become familiar with it until years later. Aaron, you made my day! Not this video but the Yellow Balloon clip posted 3 years ago. '80s TV actor Brian Patrick Clarke (8 is Enough's Merle the Pearl and General Hospital's Grant Putnam) posted a comment there recently and paid you a high compliment. On a whim I replied to him and he quickly replied back to me! I never got a reply from somebody of his prominence before. I'm starstruck! Maybe there IS hope Jane Fonda will respond to a comment I made on a What's My Line upload LOL. BPC was very thoughtful and humble, downplaying his celeb status. I'm sorry Don and Peggy, but your replies will no longer impress me.....just kidding!
Thanks for the tip Keith. I missed that one. I definitely remember him on 8 is Enough and GH.
The girl dark hair white ribbon has best rhythm
A bit late here! Favorite by the Classics IV - "Stormy" (late 1968), the group's only Certified million seller.
How about Traces
Linda 💙♥️💕. Música. 🌹🎈🎈🌹🎈
Pero es muy dificil para bailar
I love watching these old vidios i.I myself was a senior in 68 in.Minnesota. cold but still wore those short skirts sent home many times because of a dress code😮
I was 10 years old when this was aired and I know I must have seen it, even through a snowy screen from another state because often locally it was not shown

Super smash hit from early 1968!
I missed watching this TV show , I was up to my nose in active duty military ! 1968 was super busy for me then !!!
Wanna go back
This year I'll be 58 the day before Thanksgiving so I was born too late to live and enjoy these times because I was just a tike.
Altho, I love the era of song and dress of the 60s and 70s. I'm stuck there and I love it. Take people down memory lane whenever around me and my music. Strangers come up to me and tell me they haven't heard a certain song I'm playing for years and love it.
I dress as such but with a bit of an update.
The guys were so respectful and dapper and the girls all lively carrying themselves like (young) ladies growing to be beautiful proper women. What a time. I wish I could go back there.
Keep this music playing. It's a sign of the better happier and easier times
Which Fresno?? Curious
Spooky really isn't a song that can be danced to.
fab song !
Awful dress code. Glad they loosened it up on later shows.
This was early 1968. I think the dancers dressed more "mod" as the year progressed.
Things got wild in 1969. Even the Righteous Brothers
gave up their suits.
