      I find myself liking Shaw more and more with each episode. Even in the beginning I didn't dislike him, but he's possibly my favorite character in all of Trek, including the main casts. Trek has always compartmentalized the characters, they have humanity and personality until they have to be the hero, then they switch gears into officer mode. Shaw plays both roles at the same time, and I dig it.

    The scene of USS Voyager back on our screens, incredible, I've missed her.

      @BillinHungary Рік тому +4

      Few actors ever get the chance to work on a series for a number of years. Seven was there for four years (Seasons 4-7) and it is a 12 hour (at least) per day job, week after week. So the cast indeed becomes a family, not just their characters.

    Can we give a bit more credit to how amazing Jeri Ryan was when reminiscing about the Voyager, please? The image of the Voyager on screen and her acting here managed to rewind all of Voyager through my head in a split second and I had goosebumps. This season overall manages to remind me how good these actors actually are in these roles.
    That said, I have one major down related to that and it's the "I'm Lore, I'm B4, I'm Soong" bit. Brent Spiner always could show how good he was, conveying different roles pefectly although they're in the same scene and look exactly the same. We never had a problem knowing if we're looking at Lore or Data, this was unnecessary and kind of clunky, at least this should have spelled out by another person than him.

I am an aeronautics student who loves history, all too often during my studies I hear about remarkable designs that never made it into preservation, I personally believe that at least one example of every mass produced machine, no matter how successful, should be preserved simply to preserve their heritage, however, reality makes that impossible. The spaceship montage with Seven and Jack had me legit sobbing. The Voyager scene was obviously the crescendo (imagine if you'd told Trekkies 10 years ago that seeing Voyager again would hit harder than seeing the 1701-A AND Defiant again), but the whole thing was beautiful as were the theme samples (Yes, there's a section of the DS9 theme playing during the Defiant look although it's the most subtle of the three)

    I think one thing that was nicely pointed out by Riker, was that the Moriarty hologram was not the "self-aware" one that they had met previously. While I was disappointed that this is all we got from Moriarty, I am happy in the sense that somewhere there is still a cube floating around with him and the Countess flying around in a shuttlecraft...

    • @KevReillyUK
      @KevReillyUK Рік тому +1

      They handled this really well. When the AI defence system was mentioned I figured it was going to be Moriarty, thanks to Daniel Davis being in the S3 trailers, but I wasn't overjoyed at the idea that someone had pulled him from his data core (still being looked after by Reg Barclay AFAIK) and repurposed him as a security program. On the one hand he would be *really* pissed off, which would have been a joy to watch, but on the other hand I don't think anything should disrupt his and the Countess' happy ending. Combining some of his character traits with the various aspects of Data/Lore/B4/Soong was a very smart move, one that also gave Brent Spiner a moment to shine with the sort of moment-to-moment character changes we've not seen since _Masks._
      _Picard_ S3 is turning out to be _Star Trek's_ answer to _Rogue One;_ fan service that honours the legacy while also offering something new and contemporary. Not only is it shaping up to be the proper send-off that the _TNG_ crew never got to enjoy in the movies, it's a beautiful love letter to nearly 60 years of _Star Trek._ With such a strong start over the first couple of episodes I did worry that the writers might drop the ball at the eleventh hour, but to be honest I don't even care about that as much now. The journey is turning out to be so much fun that a bad ending would have to be *really* botched to ruin it.

    Her transmission cut off a few seconds before her shuttle exploded into the Intrepid's nacelle, so maybe she was able to beam aboard the Intrepid at the last second and is hiding out till she can get away.
    And I know there was a transport inhibitor, but Seven said they'd probably be able to beam her over to the Titan if she got closer, so that'd probably be the case if she was close enough to the Intrepid.

    A comment on the last down though: Yes, you can beam with the cloak activated, but maybe that's because they used a klingon transporter that was specially designed to allow this? It makes sense for the Klingons to modify their transporters in that way.

    DUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDEEEEEE! For me, the Latinum Up is using the Bounty's cloaking device for the Titan. Yes, having all those historical ships there was great (thanks for finding the NX-01), but having that cloaking device installed is like having the OG crew there in spirit. Such an excellent tie-in to The Voyage Home.

    I have a strong feeling that this season will conclude with Picard giving up his golem body to Jack, to save him from his condition. Jean-Luc is in his 90s and his son is barely in his 20s so it more than makes sense to be a great point to conclude his story, sacrificing himself for his son. Patrick Stewart is ready to say goodbye to Picard and the audience is there to see these new characters like Shaw, Jack and Sydney to take forward. This is possibly my favourite episode of the season and the best Trek in years. SO many easter eggs.

      Except there's a possibility that would actually shorten Jack's life. Remember Picard's "golem" has a built in kill-switch -- he, JEAN-LUC, would live out a normal human life. Jack, OTOH, could live decades with Irumodic Syndrome before the symptoms became debilitating. Just like his father.
      IDK, it would seem a more 'Star Trek' ending if Jack just decided that no matter how long his life he's going to live it to the full - not burdened down with resentments and fears, a past he can't change, or the sins of his parents. He will find a place to stand, a chosen family to love and be loved by. And a whole wide galaxy to roam in...

Have you any idea how many hundreds of thousands of starships there would realistically be in a 150+member world federation of planets? Now you wanna put all that in one system??? To say nothing of Starfleet priorities and tasks goingon throughout the federation?

      @@TheMsLourdes Space is very empty, there's plenty of room. ;) But more seriously, there probably aren't as many ships in Starfleet as you'd think. Think about it today, how many aircraft carriers do you think the US has? 11. There are only around 47 total in the entire world currently. If I didn't already know that, I'd have guessed there are must be at least 47 in the US military. But I agree with you on the infeasibility of it with other things going on, like medical emergencies, etc. But how else will the Changelings get their computer virus to infect every ship in starfleet all at once to get them to self destruct (or whatever they want it to do) in one fell swoop? :)

Even if there are only a few dozen capital (cruisers) ships, and a few hundred support (destroyers, frigates, science vessels) ships (assuming 1 ship per colonized world, which is probably a very low estimate. The Fed pulled 40 ships together during Wolf 359 during relative peace-time and the fleets just got bigger during DS9 era, the 7th fleet had 112 ships and I think there was a battle where Jadzia says 200 ships were damaged or lost.) that's a LOT of ships to call back from missions just for pomp and circumstance. It doesn't seem realistic at all.
      Hell, how often do we hear "We're the only ship in range." during a major event taking place near Earth, but now every ship will be called in for a parade?

    There was an explanation as to why Kirk was able to beam in/out of The Bounty while cloaked... As most could probably figure out, Klingon Birds of Prey have to decloak in order to fire weapons or beam personnel in or out due to the energy drain on the ship while in travel or in space. In the novel based on the movie, ( I have it somewhere in my parents home) it was explained that since the ship was "parked" in a field, most of the systems, including life support, were not in use, or even activated, so there was sufficient reserve power to use transports while cloaked. Hope this helps.

    The OG constitution class looks BEAUTIFUL. I hope we can finally get away from the Contitution class aparently not looking "modern" enough for HD Star Trek. The SNW Enterprise is also good looking, but the New Jersey here looks remarkable. So simple and elegant. It still looks futuristic today. I really hope we get a SNW retcon so that the Enterprise will eventually just look like the TOS Enterprise.
    Btw, seeing Voyager again in HD really hit me. I have such a deep love for Voyager and her crew. I actually had to pause because I was overwhelmed, I was still trying to get over seeing the Defiant, New Jersey and Enterprise-A. God, I love this season. So so much.

      Honestly stop with the rotcon or similar. The SNW Enterprise looks fine.
      If she reverts to the one from TOS its due to a refit and downgrades to allow her to travel long range outside federation space as by that point she's replaceable.

    I have to confess I haven't seen all of Enterprise so I'm not sure about Archer, but if you think about everything that happened to Picard's original body (the Borg, being turned into a kid, living an entire lifetime as someone else) and Kirk's body (sent to Mirror Universe, swapped essences with Janice Lester, split into two via transporter malfunction, existing out of phase with our reality), I can see why a scientific black site would want their remains for study.
    Also, Seven and Shaw had my favorite moments this week. If they're not already scrambling for a Titan series, I don't know how anything is being done over there.

    My current guess is that the changelings are after the residual nanoprobes that were in Picard's original, human body.
    They want them to in some way infect/take over the entire (now networked) fleet of ships on Founder's day and either destroy them or force them to attack earth.
    HOWEVER, after stealing Picard's body, they learned that the nanoprobes in question had already ~left~ his body and moved on to Jack when he was conceived. Which is why the changelings are now so desperate to get a hold of Jack (alive) before Founder's Day.
