  • I Played Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024's Technical Alpha release for the weekend of 12 October 2024 ahead of the full release in November. Full disclosure this Technical Alpha does not FULLY represent the final release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and could be subject to change upon release.
    Let's take Flight in the STOL Carbon Cub with a 40 knot Headwind, Over the scenic Knik river in Anchorage Alaska. Fighting Harrowing winds and taking in the atmospheric views.

    Just spent a week flying the real Carbon Cub UL in NW Nevada, watching our buddy Kevin Quinn water ski in his SS, and your video is taking me back. Well done!

    Congratulations on the video, the sound in MSFS 2024 feels stronger, with more quality.
    Regarding the comments on your way of flying, I have to tell you that yes, it is possible to make these flights, perhaps not with this type of plane because of the risk involved, in the world of ultralight aircraft these maneuvers are carried out because such strong winds are not needed, also in free flight with a paraglider or hang glider, this is told to you by an ultralight pilot who has left the ultralight in stationary flight more than once :-).
    This type of flight is used by the army as surveillance on boats with small gyroplanes, also for practice in the first gyroplane or helicopter flights, just a cable and the wind as a motor, you can search on youtube if you want to see this way of flying.
    Happy flights.

    do the winds also help with the ocean white caps corresponding to the trees. How low do you have to be to see the tree effects.

    The visual are good but I feel the ground is still lacking and feel bland under trees. I think they should have leveraged some procedural generation capabilities like Outerra did 10 years ago to refine the groud and put an exponent to the realism factor.

  • @antonioiozzi291

    Why do you fly high speed with flaps down? There is a max speeed for deploying flaps and I believe you have damaged them .... seems simmers don't even understand what is the use of flaps ..... and when there is so much wind real GA pilots remain at home. Small GA aircrafts are not made to fly in extreme conditions.

    • @flycatNZ
      @flycatNZ  День тому +5

      With a 40 knot Headwind technically your not doing what Your Air speed indicator is saying but your Above Ground Speed. If I was Stalling at 60 knots on approach, compared to the normal 45 knots with no wind. Then pulling in flaps at 70 knots when fighting against the wind would be the same as pulling in flaps at 55 knots with no wind. IDK 🤷‍♂I'm not a pilot but I think that makes sense. I'm trying to simulate what it would be like to be a kite essentially and hover to a land like some outdoor bush pilots do. At what wind speed & condition they fly in as at their discretion. But this is a Simulator so have fun right?!

    • @flycatNZ
      @flycatNZ  День тому +3

      But I think your partially right it does look fast and I think that's because I paused to increase the wind and the sim never adjusted the effect of slowing down the aircraft so it looked like normal 70 knot speed. Compared to starting off with the wind already set at 40 knots, the plane isn't going anywhere, and it would of taken me forever to get to the gravel bar. There we go a bug to submit as feedback. 😅

      @@flycatNZ real glider pilot here. No that have no sense in RL because wind intensity in such extreme conditions can vary wery much. MSFS cannot simulate well the wind effects that hit trees etc etc. In my real life airport in Switzerland sometimes we have strong hot north wind called Phön, a dangerous one but intriguing because after the firsts 1000 mt AMSL then it calms down and you fly for hundreds km with greath pleasure. When you turn back and have to go low for landing the turbolences are again huge. Downdrafts are so strong that can kill you and there is only one solution. Speed, not flaps! Even with a 22 mt wingspan glider it is easy going in trouble. With such wheather only higly experienced towpilot are flying, GA pilots remain prudently home. The XCUB is probably too light for such intense wheather. A small GA goes up and down, right and left like mad in extreme wind condition. Just for knowledge, I don't want to play the professor at 67 years old. Just explaining something if it can help you. I see you are fron NZ. Wonderful place! I had a friend who used to come in NZ in winter for flying gliders there. He was a greath pilot but unfortunatly died in a flying accident in poor wheather over the Alps four or five years ago.
