My theory about this MV is that he is, at first, apathetic and confused about what he really wants and what society imposes, and it imposes that when we are born, we grow up, work, get married, have children and live within " boxes", stereotyped as they expect us to be... a mediocre life, in bars drinking and smoking, in toxic relationships and so on. Suddenly, he finds himself faced with another person who also seems to think like him about a way out of all this. Knowing that he is not alone in his thinking and search, he can see himself happy even within stereotypical lives, because now he knows that he is not alone and that he can get out of these "boxes" and explore other horizons. Namjoon being the genius that he is, pure and simple, as well as all the members of BTS, who, together or separately, always bring us masterpieces made with mastery... I just love it💕Sorry for My bad english...lol❤

Suga and IU had a filmed conversation not long ago where they talked about not wanting to interrupt fans while they were theorizing about their music videos. Suga said fan theories were usually better than anything he could have come up with, himself. So Suga doesn't explicitly spell out his mv meanings, because that would be no fun.

You know Luke, you were the first reactor I've seen who thought the title could mean "come back to myself". And I think that's it exactly.
In my opinion, the song talks about finding the true you - and not being what you think society says you should. 'You don't have to be the anything you see. Try not to be the something in the sea." You don't have to live a particular life just because it's "the norm". Don't subsume yourself - drown in a life that is not yours. Learn to find your truth, and what makes you happy,
I personally interpret it as follows: in Korean culture, we have a stronger sense of community compared to Western culture. There are certain expectations from family, friends, and society. For example, you're expected to be a good son or daughter who is willing to dedicate themselves to the family, to be a hard worker, and to be a good person to those around you. Especially for someone who receives a lot of attention from many countries, there might be a heavy burden to always be perfect ethically and to maintain their fame. So, this song might be saying that sometimes you feel like you want to put down everything and exhausted being something but you don't need to conform to society's expectations, but rather, just be true to yourself, and back to where you love and that's totally fine.
YES!!!!!!! you're one of the few Reactors who I think "got" the meaning of this MV and song. Back to Me is, i feel and think, a reference to coming back to me, myself. The MV and the lyrics perfectly are a match to what is going on. I think the rooms at the end represent the different experiences of life that he journeys onto with a partner, stronger and himself.
At first, I thought it was about showing the choices you make in your life changes the outcomes - not getting married and just drinking with friends being unhappy; getting married, but still not happy; not happy with your girlfriend. It looked like a maze with doors representing the choices, go through that one or not. Try to find your one true path.
But when he met himself and then he looked back to himself, his other self was a woman, I saw a different idea. A very BTS idea and running plot in their songs. Duh, he's in a multiverse - like the Oscar Award winning Chinese movie, EEAAO! Each version is him, and he says don't be just another in the sea!!!! So each version of himself is different, even baby RM. He's going through each part of himself in each universe trying to find himself, do not conform to societal expectations, and to just be yourself, be happy. When he meets himself, he realizes he can be happy with the way he is. Then every multiverse changes! He's single and happy; he's married and happy; he's happy with his girlfriend. At the end, he is able to be free and join the world with his one true self, which may be none he left behind.
I don't know if I'm even close to understanding his genius! But I like the idea of finding yourself one true self and to just be happy regardless of societal expectations.
We are over K-pop... elegant, charming, deep, eclectic, sensational... I'm speechless and so PROUD of his talent ❤️🔥

Thats the poet in him. He makes the personal into the general so that it is an accessible commentary on the experience of being human.

With such a deep meaning and at the same time with such a pleasant atmosphere, a light vibe, one might say, of a weekend. Many may not have expected from RM just such a song, in this direction.. But for some reason I thought that there would be just such a performance in the genre of indie pop or jazz..
The video is very beautiful and interesting! This is art with a capital letter! This is aerobatics! Plus RM's acting is incredible (as is the entire cast). He conveys the atmosphere of the song, emotions so cool..
He is a genius! It’s so beautiful to reveal the topic of standards, opinions and the internal struggle of a person with these standards imposed by society… acceptance of oneself, one’s desires… and freedom from them, which makes it possible to live one’s own life with joy and happiness..

Someone said that they think the meaning is rm being lost and seeing himself go through life in general. Hanging out with friends, having a wife and kid, having a troubled relationship, having loving parents,having a house. But he feels lost. They said that it means that we don't have to go through life the way everyone imagines it.
In the mv,he found a woman who like him was going through the 'maze' of life( as in the last scene) and they went together
I think the lyric " you don't have to be the anything you see" kinda comfirmes this.

He knows how to find interesting, unconventional turns of phrase. The melody is calm and inspiring optimism. I really liked this song too 💜.

The album is called Right place, wrong person. I think it's about being content in the moment and not thinking life is terrible all of the time (fist scenario's) because RM feels like an outsider and he always felt as if he had to portray himself a certain way or do things in a certain way to fit in. I think you're right that he's talking to himself when he says 'come back to me'. At one point, you see in the clip a second image of himself (he found himself - he came to the realization that it's okay to be just him and be different than other or what society expects from him). When he realizes he can be his authentic self, accept himself for who he truely is, he can be content in the moment and enjoy life (second scenario's) with it's endless possibilities and choices to make (represented by the maze of rooms at the end and him walking through it). The third girl that walks with him might be ARMY. She's wearing purple and will stay by his side, accept him for who he is and the choices he will make, throughout his entire life. The song was dedicated to ARMY. RM just posted a teaser explaining that he used to have only on ON and OFF botton and nothing in between (so he always thought in extremes) and that it has changed now... The different scenes represent past (depressed/safe/lost), present (content in the moment after accepting himself) and future (happy and endless possibilities represented by the mazes of rooms that were the room from the different scenes and which represent his life - and he's walking on his life path). The overall theme of the album is feeling an outsider, finding self-acceptance and being content in the moment and his journey of self-discovery (his search for what he wants in life).

I loved the song scetch he performed during his stage at Agust D's concert, so hearing the finished song now is so nice. I love the whole vibe here that kind of reminds me of some Hyukoh songs

No wonder I hardly ever listen to "popular" (on the radio) music anymore in the U.S. This kind of depth, this ART is not to be found there. So grateful that I live in a time when I can learn of the genius being expressed by 7 young musicians/entertainers/dancers/poets/composers from Korea and don't have to rely on the radio as I had to do as a teenager. I just found it today after 3 years as an ARMY and it is amazing! VERY entertaining, excellent questions to each member in order by age from an articulate, well-prepared interviewer. On a side note she is lovely (in a glamorous dress sitting on her giant bed) and whether because of that or some other reason the maknae line are SO giggly. It's a lot of fun and might be good for a BTS Friday sometime. Borahae!
We knew every project RM releases is different from the last. Given how much I am addicted to Indigo I ordered Right Person Wrong Place and knew at the very least I would find it interesting, and though we have no idea what the next track will be like..... it was a relief RM has stayed true to himself. Previous success has not shackled him into repetition. He continues to be the most experimental member of BTS. A creative powerhouse who is not sliding down into repetition. Consistently pushing boundaries. Pain Devine. I remember the conversation he had with Pharrell Williams where they were in agreement that you judge lyrics by how painful they are.... pain divine creative purity?
Hi, I love RM, and like to think about this theory, no door shows him a nice escenario, until he finds army and helps him enjoy all the escenarios and in the end he even helps him open the door that he cluldn't open, that is rediscovers his essence what it means to be the artista he is, it is just my opinión and I will continúe to love RM and BTS in all the stage of his life, greetings🥰💜

I must have watched/listened to "Come Back To Me" almost 100 times now, and it never gets old. I see, hear, or think about something new every time. It is pure art.
You are so spot on. I think this is about reviewing our past and the expectations imposed on us by ourselves and others. Namjoon is really lost at the beginning of the MV, really showing us what "Right Place, Wrong Person" can look like - being there, but not really being *there*. The girl he meets could represent true friends we see pieces of ourselves in, or even our own selves having a "Spring" of thought in our own minds, reshaping how we see our experiences and future possibilities.

Yes I feel like its him finding himself, perhaps going through stages in life he missed. Thats what I love about RM his music is so unique, so smart, makes you think. Not just silly pop songs or bitches and hoes.

I think he’s trying to show how many ways you can live a life, many paths, many interpretations, and it’s not an obvious message. You don’t have to fit into any one path or cliche or stereotype of what life should be, could be, etc. I think that’s why he is brilliant….its not a clear point kind of like inception. You think about it, you try to figure it out, but it so deep and introspective and the best part is how subdued it is and that he doesn’t need to be flashy or in your face. It’s simple an expression of art, talent, and purity of music.
