Thanks for being clear about the valve orientation. When you take both off, it’s easy to forget which side should go on top and it seems counterintuitive.
Thanks for answering so quickly on the location of the Power Valve repair. Do you have a video on a 1999 Polaris 500 XC hose that goes from the front of the engine back and down and connects to the heat exchanger? Does the motor have to come out?
2001 polaris 500 xc sp, once I got the plastic cap off the bellow appears to be pinched between two washers with a knob like bolt on the top how do you get the bellow out to change it? No zip tie. Thanks for the vid! Huge. Instantly figured out the problem.
I just picked up the same sled and ordered new bellows as well as the seal between the blue knob and the spring, as it was leaking and smoking oil. Was swapping the bellows out fairly straight forward? Got any tips? Its my first sled, and couldnt pass it up for a couple hundred bucks, so i'm going through and cleaning out the carbs, etc.
@@Land-Yacht were the bellows torn? If the bellows are the only thing damaged then replace them but you shouldn't need to replace anything else. Smoke comes out of the plastic due to the torn bellow. So it doesn't mean the plastic part is bad it's the bellow that seals. But to get the bellows off you have to heat the nut up with a torch to loosen it. Then when you replace the bellow with the new one make sure you oil the part that seals with whatever your two stroke mix is other wise it won't seal. Don't crank on the nuts super hard either. I still had issues after that so I put a can of sea foam in my tank just like the youtube channel says and after two rides I am rippin up the trail. Pretty crazy.
@@ryanshelton9486 Thanks for the swift reply. I honestly haven't taken them off to see if bellows are torn, but figure they are with teh way it smokes out the plastic and the oil residue on bottom of gaskets, so I will replace bellows and the gaskets, as well as the seal between the blue know and the spring. When i screwed the blue cap off, pieces of dried seal came out. Glad to hear about your sled, I also plan to clean carbs, they empty gas tank, as old fuel was sitting there for a while. I will also look into putting a can of seafoam in with fresh fuel and take it for a rip. Any change you know if there is an easy way to drain the gas tank or do I need to remove it with the entire seat assembly. Thanks dude!
@@Land-Yacht honestly I wouldn't mess with the carbs until you know you have to but definitely go on sea foams you tube channel and follow what the guy does on there for his sled. First time I took it out I noticed a difference but then it kinda regressed the second time but I took it on s trip last night in -18 degree weather and it was getting up and going pretty much everytime. I may take the carbs out still but I am gonna make sure I know what I'm doing first. Not sure as far as the gas tank goes.. how long has it been sitting in there? If there isn't a ton you could just try to syphon as much out as you can and put a quarter in it with a can of sea foam and I think that would be good. Probably already enough shit in the engine from the same fuel anyway so wouldn't hurt ya know. Then maybe take the carbs out after. Probably be a lot less messy lol.
Do you recommend a drop of thread lock when tightening the bolts back to the head or is it not necessary? I am taking on this project for the first time and appreciate the video. Thanks.
Great video helped I hope ! Have Polaris iq 600 ho clean fire was missing middle range took valves off gasket was bad also ordered new bellow was spitting oil .
I like that design, must work on the exhaust backpressure maybe?? Would be nice top see a animation of how they work. simple and effective, rather than a linkage setup to the crank, the valves automatically to the backpressure... if I'm right!!
It would be okay - just don't get too aggressive with it. Even if cleaned regurally - it might be difficult with just carb cleaner as the carbon is "cooked" on when the motor is warm.
1999, 800 xcr.. For the 800 twin.. they had aluminum valves and replaced them in 2005 with stainless (5134492) after the titanium failed also. They will crack on you so replace them before you feed you engine metal. The 700s don't break because of the water cooling is better...off topic.. If you have a 800 make sure you have the black slides in your carb as they break too...make sure you put in a ninja plumber torque arm as the motor mounts break too. The comment can save you! #$$$
Agreed with all of the above! And save yourself some $ on the black slides and buy them from us.. I'll get them from arctic cat.. $25 cheaper per slide.
can u help me i have a cagiva mito 125cc and i can get the power valve out off the sylinder it is so full of carbon and i can clean it enogh. so what shoud i do?
Snowmobile noob here . ... got a 2002 viper. I will use this video to clean my power valves....The question I have is probably stupid but don't want to kill the sled I just bought. I see there is an upper oil fill line. Is that the line I use to fill up to? Again thanks for the valve video!!!
I have a '01 Polaris 500 XC SP. I have just noticed while riding once and a while I hear a strange noise usually around mid range...it is hard to describe...almost sounds like a disc brake engaging, although my brakes aren't sticking. While looking into it I noticed I have a leak in a power valve...could it be connected somehow? I don't have a lot of experience with these machines so any help is greatly appreciated! :)
Nehemiah Krause as far as a leaking diaphragm. You just going to lose some power. Get in there and inspect things and make sure that your assembly is in good shape. The guillotine could come loose and drop into the motor. Not a common issue, but it could happen.
I have the same sled as posted in your video. Someone has messed with the blue spring screws on the caps. how do you adjust those back to stock settings?
@@noopechaser6634 im sure I did but it was 10 years ago I don't remember now haha. I would suggest a service manual. They can be had on Ebay in CD from pretty cheap.
Big Kid Powersports I have an 04 xcsp 600 and from new its always been on the manufacture spec oil (VES Gold). Do you think theres a difference between that and amsoil, bc i was thinking on switching to amsoil bc i can get it cheaper.
matt vuletici Its one of those things - Ask 10 people and get 10 different answers. I like the amsoil, it has a detergent in it to keep valves clean - At end of the day, both are good oils.

Also my bolt broke off on one of the valves what do you think I could do?
I have a 02 yamaha viper where the corner broke is it gonna hurt anything?

Not needed.. Just get bolts good and tight... but not too tight..
Would this make my sled sound weird and kinda bogey
Thank you for thos video. I just picked up a 2002 edge x 800. Do you have to clean the bellow at all? Or just the valve ?
I have a 2004 Polaris xc so 600 and mine is boggy would this make it that way or the reeds

Dry, Makes a huge differences in power

Yep - regardless - just make sure there is always oil in that tank :)
is cleaning the power valves critical maintenance for strong engine life?
no,
but its a good idea for sure.
With them gumed up will it make you loose low end power???
Usually mid range is where you loose power.
I would think this idea is going to cross over to a lot of different sleds, yes.
i was wondering if there is a way to fix a striped power valve
I have had them strip out on mine, I just tapped the hole with a larger thread.. What hole it is it? the cover, or into the cylinder?
@citrobxgti Thanks! Let us know if we can help!
Is there anything special I should know when attempting this on a 2009 ski doo 800r powertek and a 2010 ski doo 600 TNT.
Not that I can think of - Give it a stab! :)

how do you remove one off a 2005 polaris 900? its the ves i think its called?

hey guys i have a 2005 rnk 900 is there anything special i have to do to take the power valves off?
Should be same idea as here.,
would this be the same as on a 2001 xcr800?

thanks il have a look at my sled sometime this week
do not use oven cleaner! it will dissolve the coating on the power valves, use WD-40 or carb cleaner adn scotch pads
what oil do you use?
Amsoil Interceptor

Either way is fine.
Sorry, I dont have a video on that repair.
thank you!!!!!! ;)
Nothing for performance, just less expensive than OEM to replace thats all.
No, they do not.
