    Thank YOU!!!!...not TOO technical; straight forward. I've owned 70's thru 90's motorcycles(n cars) but these tiny carbs are SO sensitive--the lazy part of me wanted to just buy a NEW carb online without manual choke...but THIS video gave confidence that all these giant BOOK manuals have given me (tiny print; way too general, etc..)

    Man, this is the best video I’ve seen on how to set the idle speed, you have saved my life. I’ve been trying for weeks to find someone to teach me and no one really knows how to properly do what you have just explained, not even the so-called experts. Thanks to your video now I know how to do it, I can’t wait to go tomorrow and set my DD2 rotax carburetor and FINALLY be able to drive like it’s supposed to. One again, THANK YOU SO MUCH 🙏👍👍👍

    What if turning the air screw all the way in or all the way out makes no difference at all? I bought a new carburetor which is sold for my bike model and it is supposed to work out of the box. And indeed it works, idle, half throttle and full throttle. But I cant set the air screw cause it looks like it does nothing.

    • @49ccscoot

      @@49ccscoot using it today I found out that it works pretty rich. Because when I turn it on and rev it, lot of smoke is coming out of the exhaust. Also I have to give it throttle in order to turn on. It does not turn on by pushing only the starter button.

      @@49ccscoot main jet comes into play when throttle is fully open, right? And when I am on wot everything is ok. In fact everything looks ok in the whole spectrum, from idle to wot. The only problem is that the air screw does not affect mixture (no rise or fall of rpm, no engine stall etc.).

    Or just buy an inductive RPM guage that you can clip onto the sparkplug lead and you don't need to listen to idle speeds but you can just litteraly read them on the guage, and since this type of guage is for temporary usage you don't need to do anything to your scooter / ATV.
    Most of these guages go for around 20 bucks, so it's not expensive and makes live a whole lot easier. I know it did for me when adjusting the idle speed on the scooter.

    Why air filter inside oil n water sir.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 роки тому

      See what's connected to your airbox that could allow those things in first. For oil to get in there with most 2 strokes, it would have to run in from the injection system. If it were just oil spitting back into the airbox, it shouldn't be much even with bad reeds or something. Water really shouldn't be in there unless there's some way for it to happen with a wash or rain.

    Hi. I've got a 55 plate gilera runner sp50 and it runs fine on idle and low speeds. But it bogs down on full throttle. Any ideas? I know it's running too rich from the spark plug but not sure how to sort it. Thanks

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  9 років тому

      +Cody Sparrow When the problem is at full throttle, you should be looking at the main jet. It's either the wrong size for your application or it's clogged. There's a chance that float height is off and making it rich, but usually the low throttle operation is affected more.

    • @codysparrow6585
      @codysparrow6585 9 років тому

      Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I've noticed that when the engine is running cold its not affected but gets worse the warmer the engine runs. Could that be caused by the same thing? Thanks

    • @49ccscoot

      The engine needs more fuel when cold, so as it warms up a rich condition may show worse symptoms.

    i bought a couple of 49CC 2 stroke scooters, and mostly drive them up at 6K in elevation. so if im hearing this video correctly, i should be screwing the idle bolt in, to increase the air flow?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  6 місяців тому

      You'd probably want more air to lean it out a bit. If the idle mix screw is on the air filter side, then it's controlling air. Screwing it out allows more air in. If it's on the engine side, it controls fuel. Screwing it in reduces fuel.

      Are you sure you don't need to be more aggressive with the clutch? Tuned pipes for 2Ts typically make more power at higher revs at the expense of robbing output at lower revs. I'm mostly accustomed to CVT transmissions, but we have to use higher engagement clutch springs and lighter weights to keep RPM up with tuned pipes.
      You may also have needle or main jet issues.

      I don't know anything about that specific bike. If it has an automatic electric enricher/choke, you may want to check that out. Good news is that being a Honda you should be able to find a service manual that will tell you how to do that and also lots of other troubleshooting. You can try a sort of "crutch" that sometimes helps till the issue is found. I have had iridium spark plugs help hard starting bikes before. It is not a fix. Just something that may (or may not) make it work slightly better quickly.

      @49ccscoot  10 років тому

      If you're premixing you could be using too much oil or possibly too rich on the tune. If you're using the stock injection system I would advise inspecting it first. See if you've got oil collecting anywhere else like the airbox or intake. See if oil leaks even when the engine is off.

      If the carb has been apart, the first thing I'd do is check the throttle cable and slide. It's pretty common for someone to put the slide (throttle valve) in wrong and then the engine revs as soon as it's started. If it's less aggressive than that, it may just be something like the idle speed adjusted too high or not enough slack on the throttle cable.

    I bought brand new 49 cc that runs only on choke. I cleaned the carburetor but nothing changed. Do you have any suggestion to fix this issue?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 роки тому +1

      Make sure the airbox and air filter are in good condition first and that all connections are correct. Make sure the fuel supply is good. Nothing appears to be loose, like intake bolts or exhaust or the fitting of the carb into the intake or airbox. Could just be out of tune beyond that. Some of the 49cc carbs come with really small jets.

    My Carburetor seems to be leaking at the idle mixture valve. Can this be fixed or does the entire carburetor need to be replace? I have taken apart and cleaned the carburetor and it is still leaking. Any help would be appreciated.

    My bike is not sucking fuel, it seems like there isn’t enough suction to make the fuel come out. The jets are completely clear along with all the passage ways. I’m stumped any help?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 роки тому

      Are you sure it's getting fuel to the carb? Could be the petcock or something clogged. If you don't feel much suction when you cover the mouth of the carb with your palm and the engine is turned over, you may have low compression or something not sealing so do a compression and/or leak test.

      If it has been sitting for a while before this, first clean the carb thoroughly. Popping is usually lean. Aside from carb cleaning and tuning, check fuel supply.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 роки тому +1

      Check little stuff first. Kill switch set to run, still has fuel, alarm not on... Sounds silly, but it's surprisingly common for someone to use the kill switch and the next person that normally only uses the key can't start it.
      Checking for spark is quick and you can often feel if compression is low by working the kick starter. Sometimes it's not the thing last touched.
      If he just messed with the idle settings, I'd start by setting the mix screw 1-2 turns out from seated and see if that's much of a change or allows it to start. If he did more, find out what he changed.

      Could be carb related. Maybe a different needle setting. If it sputters try leaning the needle. If not you could try richening the needle setting. Could be a CVT problem. Maybe the clutch is engaging too early, roller weights are too heavy/contra spring too light, or the belt is being squeezed, or it could be dirty.

    can you possibly explain to me WHY... in the name of ALL the gods that have EVER bin conjured up in mans history..... my tomos with 70cc airsal, 18mm intake, Dellorto PHVA ED 17.5mm Carburetor and High-Flow air filter is CONSTANTLY alternating from high idle RPM to low idle RPM no matter WHERE I PUT THIS DAMNED air-mixture screw? when i set the screw "lean" or counter-clockwise, she speeds up in idle RPM's, and when i go "rich" or clockwise, she goes down in RPM's. BUT.... ether setting, i still get a Rhythmic shifting of RPM's up and down like clockwork no matter what setting i try to dial in :( and i know what your going to think first.... you have an air leak :P but trust me... i have done a standard leak test on ALL engine components, as well as an actual leak-down test using a professional system at my local motorcycle repair shop and there is absolutely NO air leaks on this thing what so ever.... ANY ideas would REAL make my year on this bike.... i am so out of ideas :(

    So the idle speed adjustment adjusts idle speed.
    But also the air/fuel adjustment affects speed also
    Where do you start with the idle speed adjustment then?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 роки тому

      Start with the speed screw. Then adjust mix. If idle raises too much, correct with the speed screw.

    • @49ccscoot

      It would depend on the characteristics of each carb exactly, but turning the idle speed screw in does the same thing that twisting the throttle open does.

    adjusting carburetor is not all ...oil mixer have to be also a good and spark plug. one important thing that lots of people do not check a leaking PETCOCK . controll and checking spark plug to see if it is black or dirty with sloos oil if your cables on carburetor is not set right or too old. or compression is weak.

      Try the mix screw about 2 turns out. With the idle speed screw, you just don't want to screw it in too far and have the engine rev high if it starts so adjust it till you just start seeing it raise the throttle slide up a little to start and you can turn it in more as needed.

  • @49ccscoot

    It would only make it quieter at idle since it's revving less. Should not change it otherwise. Check your exhaust connections and silencer packing.
