    thats what I like about the older sleds, you pop the hood and everything is right there, you did all this in just a few minutes. cant do that with the newer rigs. hope the owner gets better at not forgetting like who does that

    Never knew or been around sleds much. Thanks for the heads up if I get 1 sometime.

    Rebuilding a engine outside in the snow, with one hand, no gloves on, and while video taping.... Now that takes talent!

    Good example of people who say new vehicles have "too many electronics". A simple temp sensor safety switch could have saved all that.

      Yeah luckily the new sleds shut down before this can happen.

    oh well, what a shame. If I had it my way, this would warrant for a 800 swap.

      Not a bad idea, some folks like the 600’s better though.

      Split the difference, the 700 is better than both

    These cylinders are Nikasil correct ?
    Also is it correct that SS model designated sleds ..ski-doo's...are sleeved cylinders ?
    Getting ready to tear down my 97 A. Cat EXT DLX , last ride no idiot light came on , buuuut when unloaded off the trailer cpl weeks later ...My coolant reservoir is empty & have 2 large gouge channels in the front heat exchanger .
    Not looking forward to the tear down & possible fix , luckily i have 2 more exchangers identical , BUUUT the labor to change will be no picnic if the engine is ok .

    Buy a used engine. Id bet it needs new crank bearings too. Used engine would be most cost effective or buying a crashed one with a good engine

      That’s probably the way we’re going to go I’m guessing.

    I’ve had several Liberty 600s. They have a good reliability reputation. 4200 miles for the era motor isn’t too much depending on the rider. Bad mistake. The Patriot rigs have an automatic shutdown

    Might not be the way to go for this engine but, I've used muriatic acid to remove the aluminum transfer on nikisol cylinders with success in the past.

    Never had a sled but if I got one I want one of these polaris. 00-02 red indy or the blue edge. 600-800 they seem like good sleds but what do I know? Any experience riding them?

    • @Tanner___kl
      @Tanner___kl 9 місяців тому

      I’d get a 600 or 700. The 800 had more issues.

    • @GeorgeJefferson-h7w
      @GeorgeJefferson-h7w 9 місяців тому

      Yeah a lot of guys do. If you have studs and carbides you can run it on the lake without snow without worrying about overheating. Some of the liquid cooled guys buy ice scratchers to kick up snow and that works too.

    A few years back i bought a red 02 edge x 600 and when i went to look at it, the track was frozen to the ground. It ran well and i got a good deal so i said ill be back with a trailer later today to get it. The guy thought he was going to do me a favor by unfreezing the track before i got there. He let it idle for almost an hour and then got it freed up. He didnt know anything about sleds and i asked him how he got it unfroze after i loaded it up. He told me and i already bought it so i said well if she blows then i guess she blows lol...2000 miles later i sold it after pounding the crap out of it...still running great. I guess i got lucky 😂

    • @rockspowersports
      @rockspowersports  9 місяців тому +2

      Sounds like you got pretty lucky though if it was idling that long.

    • @GeorgeJefferson-h7w
      @GeorgeJefferson-h7w 9 місяців тому +1

      It must've been decently cold out. The cold air coming in plays a small part in the cooling as well and the heat exchangers can cool it some without snow, especially if the wind is blowing. You got lucky though!
