  • What is the best option for replacing a missing tooth??? Dental implants, a bridge or a denture??
This video explains the different options for replacing a single missing tooth, the advantages, disadvantages of each option and some important factors to consider before making the final decision.
The various options discussed here are
    1) Fixed Partial Denture (FPD) or a Bridge
In this case the support is taken from two adjacent teeth to replace the missing tooth.
A bridge can be made in a variety of materials ranging from metal, metal ceramic, zirconia, emax, etc. Different materials cost differently, for e.g. a 3 unit metal bridge will cost way lesser than a 3 unit zirconia / full ceramic bridge. So depending on the financial status and patient’s demands, the material of the bridge can be decided.
To know more about the different materials, follow the link to watch the video - • DENTAL CROWN TYPES. Zi...
    2) Resin Retained Bridge / Maryland Bridge
This bonded bridge consists of an artificial tooth connected to wing like extensions which are bonded on the lingual / palatal surface of the adjacent teeth.
Resin-bonded/resin-retained bridges are a excellent, minimally invasive fixed prosthetic tooth replacement option. The cost of a resin bonded bridge is cheaper than conventional bridge. However, a resin retained bridge cannot be used for all cases.
    3) Dental Implants
Dental Implants are considered to be the gold-standard for replacement of a missing tooth as they are the closest alternative to a natural tooth. ‘
An implant is a titanium screw like structure which is drilled into the bone through a minor surgical procedure. After it integrates / fuses with the surrounding bone, a crown is placed on the implant.
The major disadvantage of a dental implant is its cost. Dental implants are generally more expensive than any other option discussed in this video.
    4) Removable Partial Denture
As the name suggests, a removable partial denture or RPD can be removed and re-inserted by the patient when required without the help from a dentist. These are also known as flippers.
It consists of an acrylic base which mimics the gingiva on which an artificial tooth is placed which serves the purpose of replacing the missing tooth. RPD can be made in basic acrylic material, it can be reinforced with metal or it could be a flexible denture.
RPD is far cheaper than any other permanent tooth replacement option.

so far this is the best comparation video for each tooth replacement option I find on youtube. may I ask, I lost my lower molar except the root is still there helplessly but not causing any problem. I don't want to do bridges and implant is still too expensive for me. My option for now is denture but it's effect concerns me. if removable denture leads to bone resorption, is it better to just leave it the way it is?

If a patient has a broken tooth, with the root still in the bone but it's dead, will it be a painful procedure? Will the surgeon be able to put the implant in at the time of removal? What can go on the implant while they wait for it to secure into the bone? Looking forward to hearing from you!

If the roots are infected so they remove it and then the procedure is same as in video

    Hi!
Im thinking of using a metal partial denture but I have many doubts and fears.
Do the clasps damage the healthy teeth where they are attached?
Can I chew and eat well with it?
Is it a good optipn today?
    Thanks!

Hello!! Generally, the issue with clasps is that a lot of plaque build up happens around them which may damage the teeth leading to caries and gingival problems. But, if you maintain good oral hygiene, it wont be a problem.
It may take some time for you to get adjusted to your denture, some find it super comfortable and can eat well, while others take time to get used to it.
It depends on how many teeth are being replaced, if there are multiple teeth, then its a good economical option...if a single tooth is being replaced, other fixed options are better in my opinion.
The final decision comes down to the case that is presented, your health, financial concerns and your demands and needs.
      Hope this helps :)

Could you comment on modalities of/ how one can take care of hygiene and cleaning with regards to and around FPD and Resin bonded bridges? Thank you. : )

Using a floss / proxabrush in addition to routine oral hygiene procedures.
It is important to clean the area below the pontic as well, because that may also trap food particles and debris. A proxabrush / water flosser works well to keep the area beneath the pontic clean. :)
