I had the same code and thanks to your video I realized that the line on 03:35 was unplugged. Reconnected the line and cleared the code and everything is good now.
i’ve had problems with braking in low rpm since i got my used jeep. usually right when i cold start the jeep. the pump is already on the location bracket under the hood so i’m going to check to make sure the connections are tight. otherwise thanks to your in depth video, i’ll know how to replace the vacuum pump if needed.
Nice video, replaced mine earlier this month but in the stock location. Like yours mine was heavily corroded but then something had hit the top of my pump and broke a piece off the top cover. I'm going to relocate it but have a voswitch module where you placed your pump so I got to figure out where to put mine when relocated. Dont really want to move the voswitch module as the wires to it are pretty much cut to length.
It’s such a weird factory location for this pump. Clearly an afterthought and “easy spot” when they switched from the 3.8L to the 3.6L. Good luck finding it another home!
I think that was the air supply line to draw air higher in the engine bay (since the pump was below the OEM water fording level). Since the bracket relocates it so much higher, no longer used.
Hi Eric. I work for Dorman and I actually developed this part. I was wondering if you had any feedback on the performance or installation? Is there anything you would have done differently? Any improvements you'd suggest?
It would have been great to include new seals with it (at booster and reservoir). Also the OEM master seemed to hold the reservoir better against the seals. There’s some up / down play, so almost like the casting should be a few mm taller or hooks lower. Thanks!
I have the exact same codes appear while driving on the highway after a few minutes and disappear when I turn off the car. If I have a stock bumper do I need to relocate the vacuum pump or I can keep it at the same spot. Thanks
You can get a replacement pump and reinstall it at the stock location. If the plastic Philips head screws (that hold the plate between the bumper and grill) don’t want to unscrew, I screwed a metal screw just enough into that plastic screw so I could them pull it out. Good luck!
Thanks Eric. Really weird so I put in a new pump but I still seem to get the same error code P258b vacuum pump performance... Only when driving on the highway... As it did before... Any ideas or recommendations. Thanks again.
@@eliasstefanopoulos3668 Check for a blown fuse? I don't recall the number (lower M's) that was talked about in regards to vacuum pump. It's labeled as having something to do with trailer wiring(?) - yet my trailer wiring was just fine. I did replace once... I suspect will be out when I go to change out my pump this weekend.

Did you find another location? I have the same issue with the Voswitch module in front of the ABS.
Thank you for detail video ,,, Subscribed done, I already got the same pump and will try to do on OLD XJ , THank you anyway
Is “OLD XJ” a nickname or a Jeep Cherokee XJ? As far as I know, this pump was first on Pentastar powered vehicles.
@@EricCantin I will add pump just in case engine shutdown
Cool idea. Post back when done!
My car jeep sherokee 2019 Vacuum pump to much heat and I change it same problem thanks
Where did the small vacuum line go that you had the zip tie on to the pump?
At what time in the video?

@@EricCantin I think the small line is the exhaust side of the vacuum pump.
I Changed the vacuum pump new one at my car jeep cherokee 2019 also to much heating

Great video by the way and explanation. Replacing it was quite straightforward.
Can you hear the vacuum pump start? Pushing the brakes repeatedly at idle might trigger the pump.
Other possibility would be if a line is clogged.
