This looks like so much fun. I have worked with resist before but I have never heard of it being done with India ink so as soon as I get a bottle of India ink, I’m going to try it. Thank you so much Peg. Your neck turned out beautifully!
Love it! I agree with you. I think your cover turned out so beautifully!! I absolutely loved seeing your process for making this, found it very inspiring, encouraging, helpful and refreshing. I love how you used practical items (like the box for the cardboard cover and your packaging items for mark and texture making). I admire your willingness to share your learning process with us. You’ve helped strengthen my courage to maybe try making my own journal cover-something I’ve wanted to try. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity, thoughtfulness and inspiration with us!
It is definitely a learning process for me…my whole channel started when I began to explore mixed media. I am passionate about it and wanted to record so my daughters and grand daughters could learn from me when they were ready-there are lots of things my mother did I wish I had taken an interest in! Glad you are interested in what I do💕
@@TwoOldCrowsMixedMedia So wonderful that you are investing the time, effort and resources in sharing a passion. Doing this for your daughters and granddaughters is a beautiful motivation for sharing--what a treasure!
The artwork is beautiful! Interesting technique, but I have a question. What are you doing the initial pencil drawing on? The video goes from cutting the pieces of chipboard to drawing on a white piece of paper (?), then applying the ink, then washing the excess ink off. Later you make a fleeting mention of watercolor paper, so I have to assume the paper is watercolor paper; is that correct? I would like to try this technique,, so I want to get it right.
Watercolor paper is correct! I’m sorry, I’m usually pretty good about making sure I mention everything….don’t dry anything with a heat tool; it did alter my result. Draw on watercolor paper with a pencil, paint around the pencil with tempera paint, allow it to dry naturally--cover with ink and head to the sink!
Black and "gold" are both my HS and my colege colors so i adore anything black and gold and the yellow ocher looks about perfect! I have so much packaging i want to use and now iXm thinking of a School Memoir book. I'm trying to downsize my stash of photos and memorabilia that i've never done anything with and this looks like a perfect solution for a cover to start with. I also need a black and gold fir our anniversary journal to house our pics and cards. I may have to make 2! 😂 🎉❤❤ TFS.
Peg, this is an amazing project and I love the idea of the India ink resist. I’ve been researching resists as well and was thrilled to see you had completed a different version. I wonder if you used other papers than rice paper now it would work. Running your paper under water would be a concern. Thank you again.
So many things to say where to start? ❤ First what a cool technique for resist! What kind of paper did you use to hold up during a soak and rub? Have you tried other types of paper? Maybe mineral, stone or phosphate? I enjoy watching you make a mess it's so therapeutic for me. ❤ I really like that you included the mistakes and the final look. Really great! ❤😊
I've loved watching this project, Miss Peg! I do have a question, though! The descriptions do not have an actual link to your Amazon picks page - but I found it at your web site. But when I got there, I could not locate which bookbinding tape you were using. I know it's all super sticky and all, and they're likely all the same, but I'm always interested in a brand recommend from an artist I respect! Hugs! Deb
I just added the tape I use to my Amazon Store! Didn't realize I didn't have it listed - thank you! Here is the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B09MZ8H2M9?linkCode=ssc&tag=onamztwooldcr-20&creativeASIN=B09MZ8H2M9&asc_item-id=amzn1.ideas.2AC1Z9NJP49IK&ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d_asin

I’ve had mine for years so I have nothing to compare it too. It was originally purchased for office use 15 years ago and I’ve been using it to craft for 5-6 years. No issues!
Thank you for sharing these interesting techniques with us Peg! Great cover ❤
Thank you Yolande! 💕.
Unique, fun, and beautiful! Thank you for sharing! ❤❤❤
Glad you like this! It was interesting GOLO try the resist technique!
Those covers look great. The technique was fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Appreciate you being there for my videos!! 💕
This is so cool! Love the new technique and the journal you created. TFS. 🙏🥰
Glad you like it! The India ink is definitely a fun technique!
I love how your cover came out. Thank you for sharing your creation.
Thank you, very happy you liked the outcome!

I picked up the tempera paint at dollar tree-they have colors other than white which would make it easier to see where you had covered!

Great idea! I have a high school reunion coming up this year….too many years to count😂. My college color was purple; high school red.
So so beautiful!

Wow! So impressed.

I stuck with the water color paper for that very reason, I know it does well with water as I use it for eco dye projects!

O and where is the technique from originally? Is it super old? Seems like ink and tempura have been around ages so it could be ?
I used water color paper-just the basic! Yes, I generally do create a mess that often gets edited out😉. Glad you liked the process!
Me again! I use tin foil to sharpen the blades of my large and small guillotine cutters. Works great.
Great tip…I’m going to grab some tin foil and sharpen everything!!! Let’s just say….I’m dull😂

What are your thoughts on your xacto guilloutine cutter? I’m in the market for a large one and want to make sure to spend my $ wisely.
