I think people are missing the point of Electric Masada. It's just extended, electric versions of Masada pieces and Metal Tov. It's meant as a totally light-hearted project, mostly showcasing the performers themselves. There's already so much 'serious' Masada. It's nice to just hear something like this or Masada Rock every now and then.
cool! i liked this, strange but audible. i see some musics from Naed City...oh...they´re impossible to litens without TOTAL AND ABSOLUTE CONCENTRATION. you need be a music specialist to undestand. Zorn is a Genius!
I love this tune. But I can't help thinking that, if Zorn genuinely wants to create a Masada songbook that musicians other than those who get to play with him can perform, he ought to stop arsing around with teasy little scraps here and there and properly publish some Masada tunes. I'd love to learn this, and I think I could transcribe it, but it'd be a f*** of a lot easier if I could just read it. I'd pay money.
I really like what zorn made with electric masada, but think he should do more things like "Magick", he has already done a lot with groups. Well he should stop spending time eating or doing any other thing that music I want more zorn ^^. Seriously the only thing I find a bit hard are his "game" (like Cobra),even though that's interesting and I hope I'll be able to get pleasure from it with the time(sorry for my english, maybe "get pleasure" seems a bit strange doesn't it ? ^^)
i dont know about you but electric masada is the best mix i think Zorn has done. it Naked City with a jewish sound and no jump cut stuff like Naked City
Shut up! This kicks ass. Write your own music and go in the direction you want - it's his fucking project and you don't know what he's thinking... Jesus...
@noisyflowers By that comment I didn't mean I wasn't part of the ordinary crowd. Well - jumping into quick conclusions is also pretty ordinary trait, right?
I think that the group has TOO MUCH direction and that there's too many members simply doing whatever Zorn says to do. On top of that, Zorn's compositional approach to this project does nothing to make it any different from any other Masada project, just louder and heavier. Aside from some of the newer Masada Book II discs, which does take a more interesting approach (using solo performances and allowing reinterpretations), the project as a whole has become kind of stale and predictable.
While I respect a lot of Zorn's work and all of these players, the Electric Masada group has to the worst project that any of them (Zorn included) are involved with. The quartet with Baron, Douglas, and Cohen is great. This just sounds like a forced inbreed of Masada and Naked City. Zorn should concentrate on his increasingly compelling composed music and stop cashing in on this hot-air-balloon of a group.

the first time i heard zorn it reminded me of zappa. in fact i think alot of people are reminded of zappa in zorns music
i like this version more than the naked city version. the recordings from at the mountains of madness are awesome
For sure. I have this transcription and just thought mostly long or short for the notes...before writing it out properly. Great fun!
They are so great
great band great song too. masada is the best. well one of them at least
LIVE in CATANIA! i was here!!
simplemente genial
the thing that keeps it fresh is the improv of the players.

lexo30,
I think I'll be doing my sad and desperate attempt to transcribe this sometime soon. Have you got anything at all?

Good sync between the two drummers. And very cool overall - not for the ordinary listener, though.

yeah youre right. masada does it more like a song and naked city is more like a like what you said sketches
but everything you said has to do with the music, either way i agree and youre right.

finalmente qua non hanno sbagliato una nota!! ahah
oh yea! haha...
how do they memorize that riff!!!!
The original version is by Naked City on their album Radio. It's played slower there so it's easier to figure out.
sounds like 70's German Fusion. LOL.
Well, maybe I will! Hah.
just transcribe it, man....you can do it! would be fun...take liberties in the interpretation, too.. F it all.....haha....
