    6:07 MOST = Media Oriented Systems Transport. This is a fiber optic standard used by Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and other cars. The previous generation fiber optic protocol was called “D2B”, back in the 1990s. “Remove MOST Security” means it will allow you to modify the MOST system, which is normally “SECURED” against tampering or modifications. Both D2B and MOST are set up as serial loops in the car - each device with fiber optics has 1 input and 1 output, in a loop. D2B was invented due to increasing levels of electronic noise in motor vehicles, also in consideration of future weight savings, rather than than using lots of heavy copper wiring. Weight savings and being able to handle increasing complexity were also the driving forces behind CAN bus systems.

    Thankyou very much for this. As always, your videos have been very informative and given me the confidence to do the same. I'm ordering a subwoofer now to do the same job. I also plan on (hopefully) doing the same install without running wiring into the cabin. I have the factory GPS navigation system in my car that no longer works, but it does have MOST optical to the rear of the boot. I will redirect this for the amplifier. I also plan on running the subwoofer wiring to a spare fuse location in the rear of the boot.

    If you don’t have an active satellite radio subscription I recommend you disconnect the power to the satellite radio and buy a MOST loop to bypass it. There’s a bug in the XM module firmware that they wake up and enter a high current state over and over draining the battery. I did the bypass to both the P3s in my family. Volvo wants 1hr labour and the firmware upgrade costs $$. A MOST loop bypass cable from Volvo only costs 15$ CAD. Loved watching the series into the Subwoofer! The take apart video was great to see too.

      The optical cable he got to add the sub amp basically is a MOST loop. If he wants to leave the Sirius module out of the MOST circuit he could just remove the cable he added and connect the plug for Sirius module to the sub amp instead. Not sure how the CEM diagnostics reacts to this though, since there is a missing module that it will be probably looking for...

    • @atomikrobot300099
      @atomikrobot300099 2 роки тому +3

      @@EarlLeeBird Yes, you are totally right to just remove that cable he added. The diagnostic tab in VIDA will report that the RDAR (XM) module is missing (no errors in the DIM or radio screen though). The options for XM 1 and XM 2 will still appear in the radio list, but selecting them does nothing. It's common for Volvo do bypass the RDAR with no repercussions.

    The manufacturer of the subwoofer is Alpine.
    I also tried whether it was possible to connect the subwoofer in a facelift Volvo XC70 (2012-2016) in this way.
    Unfortunately, this is no longer possible there because Volvo has switched to a passive subwoofer and the active subwoofer does not emit any sound. Too bad.

    Hi ! I did the same as you, but installing the entire Premium audio (Dynaudio) to my Volvo C70 Mk2. My problem was that the vin-chasis number was incompatible with the premium and subwoofer amp (CEM list) because I had the standard version of the car, so I had to buy a car amplifier with integrated DSP (which is better than I expected, because of the low power consumption, high and quality sounding, and lot of power). Good video. As a next step you should do the Premium Sound amplifier upgrade. It is super easy to do if you find the correct amplifer and already have the Small level VDash and Dice cable. It adds so much more in general compared to the High performance system, even with High Performance bass speakers and upgraded tweeters. For center speaker you can just add a small tweeter somewhere or set it as stereo instead of surround.
    Edit: I noticed you needed VDash Pro licence to access the advanced configuration options. Did the d5t5 team give us another middle finger and change the required level to do these changes? Last I did this the already payed Small license was enough...

      Do you mean upgrade to dynaudio speakers? Have you done the upgrade?

    • @EarlLeeBird
      @EarlLeeBird 2 роки тому

      @@Johan-hv7hb You can upgrade only the amplifier. High Performance speakers are not that bad (except front tweeters that he has already upgraded to Hertz tweeters in one earlier video). I have added Dynaudio center speaker, mid range speakers in front doors and tweeters in rear doors + Hertz tweeters in front door - they add to the better sound but what adds the most is upgrading to the 5x130W Premium sound amplifier - it just has so much better sound clarity, even with FM radio that used to sound really bad - Im not sure why, maybe Volvo has the fm module integrated in the amplifer. At first I upgraded front Tweeters and then the amplifier. Later added some Dynaudio speakers.

I am wondering about existing cabling in the car, what I can use or need to update to get dynaudio working. I also have navigation in the car from factory and I am wondering about the cable for the center speaker. I am guessing the existing cables in the door in the car to the door will be enough and the in the door updated so it can go from 2- way to 3-way. I have been searching the net for information about anyone that has done the upgrade buy it seems that it has not been done much.

    • @EarlLeeBird
      @EarlLeeBird 2 роки тому

      @@Johan-hv7hb If you have High Performance and navigation then most of the wiring is there, only wiring you need is for front door mid range speakers - these will be connected parallel to bass speaker wiring so basically you can just cut them off donor car as long as possible and solder on - Volvo connects them same way in factory, they are same color wires and same connector as front tweeter cable. Center speaker cable is already there under the grille, connected to an empty connector. If you get the center speaker from same car, with navigation, you just replace the whole panel that has speaker. If you get it from car without navigation or from XC60 you can still use the speaker, but you need to carefully cut it off from the different panel and glue to your panel - same with speaker wires and connector pins - desolder wires from pins, pull pins out and insert to your panel's empty connector, then solder speaker wires again. For front door mid range speakers you need the screws and metal nuts/clips from donor door card as well, other speakers mount the same as your old ones. Amplifier is plug and play but needs coding to Premium Sound in Vdash or some alternative - very similar procedure as subwoofer coding in this video. If you write what car and what year is yours and the donor, I can maybe give some more helpful tips.
