Most students accepted to New York City's top public high schools come from middle class and affluent neighborhoods. But there's a section in Brooklyn where low-income families have cracked the code, and changed the face of the elite schools. The area includes Sunset Park, Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights.
They will try to put numerous reasons and discriminatory tactics to deny the hard working Asians .
I’m taking the specialized high school exam this October! Wish me luck
good luck, me too im taking it
ME TOO. IM SOOOOOOO SCAWED. My parents will kill me if I don’t get into stuy. I got a 44/57 for Ela and 54/57 on math for one practice test. I wish u good luck
Any advice?
I use prep books, no tutor cuz its expensive. Best advice is to do your best and remember how you got 44/57 and 54/57. Try to do it in the real test
OMG thats so good for a practice, but I really don't think I'll get in but its better to try then just give up.
I took a test prep class that my school provided after school for like an hour and a half a couple of times a week for a couple months... i got a 571... My best advice, just practice the types of questions that will come up on the shsat and you will do well. Get any shsat textbook and practice practice practice
(Got into Stuyvesant btw)
I am not Asian, but I applaud these kids. They are working hard, striving to be great This is what this country is about. DeBlasio and his cronies want to reward mediocrity. As a result the so-called Specialized schools will no longer be so special
Longfordboy they place an importance On education and invest in school programs and work hard and study in their free time in order to go the schools with the best educations
but why is it that Asian students go to the same public schools as blacks and Hispanics and are a minority, yet still they are the majority at specialized schools?
@@briannacarless2470 specialized schools are part of the public school programme. It's like saying how can he be a new yorker, and an american at the same time?!??!
@@briannacarless2470 cuz they’re smart
@@naznottherapper r u korean?
Taking test in 2 weeks. I want to get into Stuyvesant but don't don't if I'll make it.
*PS* Once I finish Angel, ain't ever going back.
Did you get in?
Eugene Lee oh hi
Eugene Lee did you get in?
my friend got in
I currently go to MarkTwain and yes it is the top school but you don’t have to be technically smart to get accepted, it’s just very challenging to get in. Thousands of people audition and test each year.
I Go to MT too. Judging by my name, you can probably find who I am quickly. And yeah, what you're saying is pretty much true. Just a lot of competition
Addison Vande Plasse heyo mt family
My race is taking over all then good schools and future good jobs. Lmao I wonder if I can score well on the SHSAT next year
what did you get on the shsat?
AHHHH ANGEL CENTER I WILL NAWT GO BACK THERE
Bottom-line: These kids put the work in and studied. The one sentence that many Asian parents say to their kids most often is "Are you done with your homework?" This helps set the priority for the kids. In the thousands of years of Asian history -- there are means for the poor to catapult to aristocracy through studying well and earning a place as a high government official. We want to replicate that aspect of the culture, not to penalize it.
Asian - what a shocker
i use smart board for middle school
Boi, i have to say because I had went to A plus for 1 year and I’m telling you guys that it’s not as good as you though( to parents and child). Because, unless the child really have a goal for a good school, and having a plan that going to specialized high school is the best way, then please send your child to those after school program. But for me, I found that school isn’t the best way to get experience in life, so did games, friends, free time and dependency, so please don’t force your child to goto these programs, they are just waste of your money( parents) is your child doesn’t have the desire to.
I went to A Plus for 6 years and I feel like if you go to the school your parents really care about you. I would send my child to these programs because I want the, to get ahead in life
This is the dumbest thing I heard in a long time. Ofc games free time and friends to get “experience” I wonder why you want that.
God damn i just click this bc I thought I saw my friend in the interview it was someone else
TO be Very honest, Asians are very smart, not trying to be mean but it's the truth ,
Its SIMPLE Newone !!! Baby gyal It takes hard work to study for this test as well
As a graduate of Bronx Science and a former resident of Hong Kong, I say these Asian kids in New York just work incredibly hard!
@@johnscanlan6337 yep they do, theirs only a hand few of kids these days who actually care about their education and part the work in, even if i miss one day of school i get bummed out cause i just love taking test lol, and watching ppl get in trouble for not doing hw , but really the hard work pays off cause thats your future
Anyone who studies and practices the material will master it. It's not about inherent characteristics of a certain race.
They arent very smart. They are raised to value education and to practice good work ethic.
so, would a non-east asian kid, not be welcomed at this program?
of course not...It's just that the Asian culture values education more than anything therefore, most Asians do well in school.
I think you missed the larger purpose of my question. What you say is sort of obvious, but it's a separate issue.
nah, I've seen non East Asian kids at the shsat place I went to
wait shit this was 4 years ago lol
Asian parents take grades very seriously
Education must be merit based. If not then academic credentials loose their meaning.
lol i took the shsat and i guessed for more then 1/2 of the math section wisH mE lUcK hEHe

aww you couldn't make it. how sad.
Its test prep that Success Academy type charter schools provide their students for free what the comment sections ignore and the charter schools dont advertise the SHAT either. Also test prep is not teaching lessons I wonder what these students look like in a real advanced challenging curriculm in a school that wont slow down and explain? How many students does the Specialized schools lose because the test prep kids do not understand the work?
