More people need to see this video. You have no idea how many UA-camrs think PS1 emulation on the 3ds is garbage. So many people making those videos haven’t done any research. Good on you that you actually did some digging. 👍
@@doomdoomerson6524 I can run Tekken 3 at 60fps. I am not sure why you are having trouble with mortal kombat. I am pretty sure GTA should work fine on the New 3DS. It definitely sounds like something is odd. Edit: The guy who made the video said he was using the “out of the box” settings and he was playing GTA 2. So I am not sure what is going on.
CHD is better than PBP in the sense that is compresses the games better. PBP was designed to compress PS1 games to run on the PSP, where CHD was created for the sole purpose of preservation. It doesn’t actually change much of the gameplay, but CHD saves a lot more space. You have to use an “m3u” file in Retroarch in order to play multi disk games like FF9, but it’s not super complicated. Looking it up on UA-cam would clarify things.
I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. I’m using .chd files, I’ve got a New 3DS, I’ve tried optimising using every tip I’ve found. My frame rate absolutely chugs though. MGS goes slow motion every time I enter combat and THPS runs at maybe 10fps. Any tips?
I would like to know how you even did this. Considering I have seen people play mgs1 at full speed with no optimizations and without chd files. I would say to make sure you are using an updated version of Retroarch. I am using version 1.15. And maybe change the SIOB (change the order of the capitalized words. Supposedly the PPS one is the best).
@@MVS_DJGillyGill Are you using an old 3ds or a new 3ds? That seems to be the prevailing issue when it comes to matters like these. I will also post my reply to this comment below for further useful information: Using a bios is good for increasing compatibility with games as well. I have tried a few of these tweaks, but I haven’t tried the video sync option yet. That may help with FF9 and vagrant story a bit. Async rendering already helped quite a bit, but that might make my 3D games run perfectly. Thanks for the list of recommendations. Edit#1: Also you can use”m3u” files to get multi disk CHD games working. I used to use PBP before I figured this out. Edit#2: Also, you will want to used “synchronized rendering” (instead of async) for Tekken 3 if you want it to run at 60fps. Most 3D ps1 games did not run at 60fps, but Tekken 3 did. So do that for a smoother experience. Edit #3: I also found that going into core options -> speed hacks and then assuming the GTE registers are unneeded gives me a nice boost and I have yet to experience rendering errors. I imagine this is different for different games. Edit #4: also disable the 3D overlay and the bottom screen UI in the settings -> user interface for improved performance and battery life. It’s a neat feature to have the Retroarch menu in 3D, but it’s not worth it. Also, don’t use simple/cubic/Gaussian sound interpolation. Just turn it off. I found that just gives me audio pops unless it’s is a scene with thunder. Simple sometimes fixes the issue if that’s the case. Going into the audio settings to increase the decibel (volume) level. I found 1.0 to work perfectly well, but the default 0.0 just didn’t do it for me. Edit #5: Wow, even with these settings, legacy of kain is playable. However, you are going to also need to enable another speed hack. One I have been experimenting with and only causes some games to run too fast. And that would be to disable cpu/gte stalls. This coupled with assuming the GTE registers are unneeded has been working pretty well for me. 3D games seem to benefit the most from this (Spyro, crash, vagrant story, FF9, legacy of Kain, etc.)
