I’ve been researching videos on grooming golden doodles all morning and this is truly the best video I’ve seen. You cover everything with clarity and precision.
That's why I love Amy! She's clear, she's concise, she's THOROUGH, and she obviously just enjoys what she does so much it's a pleasure to watch! Love u Amy Leigh! PS I'm in groom.school.and working in a grooming salon at a pet store (not Petco not PetSmart, thank you lol) and I have my first doodle today so I thought .. refresher course, and of course I came here ❤ wish me luck!!!
Omg! You are, hands down, the best groomer I have ever seen. You've covered everything for non groomers to know. My poor baby came home with cuts all over his body plus the hair wasn't even. I had to go back to show the groomer that the hair on his left was longer You're so knowledgeable and very gentle. I'm forever grateful for the time you've spent to help others. ❤
Wow!! Just Wow!! I groom my own 7 dogs. 3 poodles, 3 maltese, 1 Lhasa Apso. This is by far the best grooming I have ever seen, and I have watched a lot. Your camera angle, and your cutting is to perfection! I will stick with watching you!! Mahalo 👍👏
I have two standard girls that go to the beach everyday, even in the winter. This is the best grooming video for non groomers I ever saw. This is a blessing for me. Thank you so much! 💓
That groom was worth EVERY penny! That would take the average person forever to do and probably still not do as good a job. Once a month, no mus, no fuss.😍😍😍
Thank God for this video. I'm a newer Goldendoodle owner. I sent her to the groomer a few months back and she came back all chopped up. Meaning her hair was chopped. I bought clippers to do it myself. Thanks for sharing .
Thanks for these great grooming videos for Goldendoodles! I can’t afford the $135 price to get him cut every 6 weeks so I’m going to learn to do it myself. Your words of encouragement are needed😊 and appreciated. Thanks for all the tips and for replying so quickly to my questions! I might not be taking Teddy out in public for awhile but I’m sure we’ll get there😂
I love your videos Amy. I have learnt so much about grooming from you. I used to own a Toy poodle and spend alot of money sending him to the Groomers. After 18 years with us he passed on and I acquired another poodle pup. I decided I will home groom him. I looked at many of your videos and followed your advise on much of the equipment. I have been grooming my Muttonchops for the last 8 months, picking up tips from you all the time. I am ever so grateful to you..thank you.
I absolutely love all your videos. I have had dogs all my life - from outside hunting dogs to 50 pound lap dogs. I have 2 sproodles - a 50 lb black & white and a 25 lb mini Merle color. I have been ‘grooming’ if that’s what you would call it for 35 years. I always felt a personal bond with my pups when I wash, dry and cut them. I honestly can say that my dogs have never been mistreated in their entire life. I’m sure there are great professional groomers out there, but I’m just too paranoid to take any chances. Your grooming tips have enabled me to go to the next level. I have almost all the equipment in your videos and the techniques you use are easy to follow. I love how calm you explain everything, but what sets you apart from all the other UA-cam groomers is the way you talk to the dogs on your table. Grooming a dog should be a pleasant experience for BOTH of you. Your passion and kindness shines thru in every one of your videos. Thank you for being a great leader and teacher. I would love for you to do a video on springerdoodles. Their hair is typically softer than a regular golden doodle and they look more like a springer spaniel than poodle. I have difficulty selecting the proper blades for that springer look. Thank you again! Happy clipping!
Even though groomers are open again, this video continues to help people and dogs! I really appreciate your content now that I have a new-to-me adult goldendoodle with a fine, downy coat that needs a TON of maintenance. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you so much. We got our Golden doodle because that is what our daughter wanted, but little did I know how much work a GD is. After much frustration I am learning to do the cut/trim myself and your youtube channel is exactly what I needed. Great videos
So glad I stumbled upon your channel! I recently had to shave my one year old standard female Goldendoodle after going way too long between groomings. Poor girl. I do have the Wahl KM10 clipper, but it would not go through her coat. I happened to have an older Oster clipper that got the job done, but not pretty. I was glad to see that you recommend the KM10 clipper (was gonna trash it) so I am ordering a new 10 blade to use with the Wahl guards that I already have. Hopefully, the new blade will get things working again. I also recently sent home 9 Goldendoodle/Labradoodle puppies to new homes and will be sharing your videos with the new owners. I highly doubt any of them will tackle grooming their pups; but this will make them aware of the maintenance involved. Can't wait to watch more of your videos! Thank you again!
Ok. I love your videos and have been grooming my own dogs for 35 years. My groomed dogs do not look anything like your Daisy. I currently have a 50 lb sproodle that I bathed yesterday. I’m going down my basement and am going to follow your instructions explicitly. I have all the same tools and am hoping for results that look like I followed your video. You are amazing and I thank you for posting all the products you use. Wish me luck!
I totally wish you luck and here is a tip… take your time in the bathing process. Make sure you really get your dog clean and condition the coat. That is the secret to a perfect groom. I spend a lot of time just bathing brushing and drying the dog before trimming. 👍
Yep, I just discovered lately that doodles with lots of undercoat you have to slicker them while damp even if you slickered before the bath. It works really well, hair really comes out, but if there is a spot you missed when the coat is dry the next day, there will be matting. Your dog looks super wet: I was slickering a slighty damp dog that had been air dried by a nice walk on a fairly warm sunny afternoon after towel drying.
Aww I always get my Roxy puppy cut ! Hi nice to see u and thanks for always being here u are the best ! I always wash dog week before she goes to the Gromer lol 😂 I feel bad for u guy some time ! I was hairstylist so oh man it can get nasty lol be safe thanks again we just love u ‘
This was very helpful for me! I have a big doodle and I moved and can not find a groomer in my area taking new clients! I really want to take care of him myself. I didn’t realize I had to brush him before, after the bath when he’s still damp and then again before I shave him! No wonder this has been a nightmare lol
Thank you for this. My issue is that my dood is SO curly! Kinky curls! It’s almost impossible to use a slicker brush when his fur is longer. We live in an are it gets very cold, so I do like to have some fur on him during those months.
New at learning how to groom. I really want to be a professional groomer. How do you keep all these dogs so calm while you are caring for them? So far I've had nothing bit digs thay fight me and do not want groomed!
Groomer in training here-- I've been taught to always use a 30 blade under snap on combs. Does using a different one of the acceptable blades under the comb make a difference? Like a 10 to 30, is there going to be a slight length difference? Maybe a safety difference if you catch a tuckup. Love your videos, thank you!
Reason why Amy uses a 10 blade. Is because, have she does the trimming. All she has to do, is take comb off and go straight for the sanitary trim (ears, feet, sanitary are). 10 blade is safest for sanitary are, doesn't cause irritation. It's also a time saving technique for groomers. Don't have to stop and change blades.
So I have a doodle with more of a retriever coat type. Instead of tightly wound curls he’s more wavy, like Baywatch tresses. I am very dedicated to his maintenance, daily brushing with a slicker and comb. He gets his teeth brushed everyday and ears cleaned often. So what I would love to see from you is scissoring maintenance. How should I be cutting around his face and do you have any tricks for body trims?
I keep my almost 12 month old F1 Standard Goldendoodle Nala long and shaggy. I’m having trouble finding tutorials on how to scissor trim her to keep her hair trimmed, but not cut short. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A DETAILED GROOMING OF A GOLDENDOODLE WITH A SCISSOR CUT!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Very disappointed that the link for the haircare isn’t what you showed. Now I don’t know which one to trust. But thank you for a great video-sheepadoodle mom
I have a 3 Ostor Blade and the 1 inch attachment comb is way too big to take off any hair on his head ? What number do you suggest ?? I could use the blade itself but then that would be too short.. I have a Oster Golden 5A clippers. The only other blade I have is a 10 and no covers can be used on that one ( that was ordered online ) we use that on his thicker parts of his body and it works perfect! He’s a Goldendoodle , pretty much poodle coat .I’m trying so hard just to get him to have a teddy bear face ?
Loved your tips for grooming. Hubby will not let me wash dog in our bath tub. From your experience, will groomers provide a shampoo/conditioning service and let me do the rest?
Is a puppy cut different from the teddy bear cut? I was suprised with how low her fur was cut since you had mentioned a "trim" and "puppy cut". I just want to make sure I'm using proper verbiage to our groomer for what we want for our doodle.
@@GoGroomer Yay!Thank you so much for answering. I've ordered my table , clippers, etc. and can hardly wait to learn to groom my Molly girl. I know I'll be more careful than some of our mis-adventures with groomers. It's nice to know that you are really 'there.' 🦮❤️🦮
Me again. Lol. So I want to know what shampoo that you use that is not uncomfortable on their eyes. I’m not feeling confident at all on what I’m hearing/seeing. Please let me know your thoughts. You said here that you use tropivlean but the link is different. The one tropiclean us tropickean spa which you don’t mention in the video. I don’t mean to sound angry, but I am frustrated because I just went out and spent a bunch of money. I really do appreciate the video. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the reply. Okay, so first of all let me apologize for the typos. I wrote on my phone and can barely even see. I do know now that it’s the facial tropiclean, but in the video it was just the regular triopiclean 16:1, right? Bottom line is that question. I want to know if I can use the diluted 16:1 tropiclean or is that is not as kind to the eyes. As far as that goes, do you still recommend the 16:1 shampoo and 42:1 conditioner? Those aren’t linked, it is a different product all together. I did my first groom today and this video helped me immensely. Thank you again.
Hi, I have eight dogs including five Poodles with one Standard. I groom them all myself. May I ask for your recommendation for shampoo and conditioner for Poodles please? Including dilution. They all have a bath every 7 - 10 days. Thank you.
Wonderful! Typically you would want a "crisp" scissor coat for a poodle, but because we like them to remain soft and brushed out longer between baths, I like to use these two products together.. Natures Specialties, plum silky shampoo and sunguard conditioner.
@@GoGroomer Good to know, thank you. I went for the Almond Crisp previously and have only tried it on my Apricot Toy and Shih/Poo so far. I haven't got the SunGuard yet.
Is there a reason you do not shampoo twice? I feel like one bath is never enough. The first shampoo gets most of the dirt and oil and the second shampoo gets what’s left. If I didn’t shampoo my hair for a month I would shampoo twice.
Because I use the prima bathing system and adequate shampoo and conditioner. No need to shampoo again when I follow this process. That saves me time, money, and produces fabulous results 🐾
I’m so grateful for these videos. I’m liking trying to groom my miniature golden doodle. However, she HATES being shampooed. It’s kind of traumatic for both of us. I used my laundry sink with a shower hose attachment. Thus, I definitely don’t want to take time for conditioner. Thoughts? Thanks so much.
For what it’s worth, I had a foster dog who was completely freaked out by the bathing thing. I decided to eliminate the face and head completely the first handful of times to get him a little more comfortable with the process. It helped. Also, I found that I could get away with a relatively quick rinse after the shampoo step, and then do a very thorough rinse after the conditioner. It helped speed things along for him. Personally I wouldn’t skip the conditioner. It helps with trimming. I wonder if there is a combo shampoo/conditioner for dogs? A couple more thoughts. Obviously, make sure water isn’t too warm or too cold. Do you have a mat in the sink? Could she be slipping, which would make her scared and feel unsure. If she’s a mini, maybe she would be more comfortable standing, with her front legs on the edge of the sink/counter.
Hey Amy, I have a question, where do you get your clipper vac hoses? I have a clipper vac that attaches to my central vac system in my shop and the hose that came with it has broken and widdled down to about 4 feet. Your's seems to be more flexible than mine and I've looked everywhere. Any tips would be so much appreciated. It just seems like the one I have isn't as flexible and keeps breaking and I have to cut it, re attach it and I've tried taping it to add durability but it seems every week I'm having to cut it down more. Please help😥🙏
@@GoGroomer You truly are the absolute best, I did not expect to hear back from you, if at all, but especially not this soon. Thank you so so much, I hope to catch you on your live Monday, I've been missing them lately. Hope you're doing well
I think you did great and lots of people like this style. But could we please not to call this style the puppy cut? For anyone who have seen a doodle puppy, they look the exact opposite with very short hair on the ears and much rounder looking face in general.
Serious question, Why not get a Standard Poodle? They are the second smartest dog breed that exists, minuscule shedding and costs less than a doodle. 🤷🏼♀️
Doodles are for those that want a mellower version of a Standard Poodle. My standard, now 10, is very headstrong and loves to hunt. It’s the genetic hunting drive along with the intelligence that makes him headstrong. In the field or while tracking on a long lead, he’s in charge. It’s his job to tell me what to do when he get on scent. In contrast, although Golden Retrievers can also hunt, the Labs and Golden were breed to sit by their master’s side all day long in a duck blind.

Shampoo & conditioner combo your opinion?

Not impossible. You just need to use proper brushing techniques. A slicker brush is definitely the brush for that coat.
New at learning how to groom. I really want to be a professional groomer. How do you keep all these dogs so calm while you are caring for them? So far I've had nothing bit digs thay fight me and do not want groomed!
Properly secured the grooming table. I have videos that show you how to do it.

you can use a 10, 15 or 30 blade under you snap on combs...All produce the same result.

Wouldn’t that brush cause brush burn because it does have the balls on the tips? Especially brushing them wet?
Brush burn is caused by improper brushing techniques not the brush itself. I will make a video on that topic 💕

do you have a name for the ear cleaner?

No, only a 7F blade if the coat is matted. You can choose any length as long as you do not let the coat get matted.

How long does it typically take you to groom a full-sized goldendoodle? Brush, comb, bath, cut, etc?
2.5 to 3 hours
Hi Amy. What comb attachment u used to erase clipper marks? 💘
same comb in reverse:) Or you could comb up and scissor of clipper lines with a thinning shear.
@@GoGroomer yes yes 😊 pull the skin up, keep it thigh. Thanks ❤❤

Do you avoid using a loofah on a doodle? I just wondered if it would cause matting?
I have a Cavapoo and use the loofa. I make sure I brush before the bath and I haven't had a problem
Do you recommend that kind of brush ( slick??) for a poodle coat?
Kenchii or Activet brush is great for a Poodle coat.
yes
I got the slick brush but my Lil malti-poo doesn't like it. Can you give me any suggestions?
I have been trying to find the KM10 clippers but they are out of stock 🙁 on Amazon. Any other suggestions on where I can find them?
I got mine from Ryan's Pet Supplies
Hey Amy, I have a question, where do you get your clipper vac hoses? I have a clipper vac that attaches to my central vac system in my shop and the hose that came with it has broken and widdled down to about 4 feet. Your's seems to be more flexible than mine and I've looked everywhere. Any tips would be so much appreciated. It just seems like the one I have isn't as flexible and keeps breaking and I have to cut it, re attach it and I've tried taping it to add durability but it seems every week I'm having to cut it down more. Please help😥🙏
Hanvey engineering:)
@@GoGroomer You truly are the absolute best, I did not expect to hear back from you, if at all, but especially not this soon. Thank you so so much, I hope to catch you on your live Monday, I've been missing them lately. Hope you're doing well

Do you mind sharing where you got a clipper vac that connects to a central vac?
What's the vacuum name I'll love to order one
She uses a hanvey hair vac
My doodle is looking rough

So is # 0 blade longer or shorter than the #1?
Yes
To be clear, -0- is Longer Than -1-
I think you did great and lots of people like this style.
I have a Labradoodle. It's a person's preference what kind of dog they want. 🙄
@@rkgrant16 Thank you for your insightful response. 🙄 Poodles will always be superior to any Doodle. Sorry to break it to you.
@@dennis1954 I’ve never heard of a “headstrong” Poodle. I am however happy to hear that you have one.
