I love watching an experienced dog handler and his dogs hunt. I grew up hunting over beagles for rabbits and pointers for pheasant. I’ve always loved watching well trained dogs work.
The tradition of planning a hunt while eating dinner on your paper map at the dinner table is something nostalgic that I miss in this new age of digital maps and apps.
Yanis, thank you for highlighting what Houndsman are at home! We slmost all have families and are nothing like we are portrayed by modern society. Keep up the good work guys!
Just finished listening to the Meateaters Close Calls audiobook today and also happened to stumble on this video where Jake happened to appear in both. I thought it was cool hearing his story about how he sliced his finger off and could actually see in this video the limited mobility he still has with that finger that he talked about in the end of the audiobook. Great productions from the Meateater crew and I recommend everyone to give them a listen
That dish you made at the beginning I think I’m going to make that for myself. Looks like a great cheat meal for bodybuilding and overall life in general!

I was listening to the meateater pod episode 312 as this video dropped. For anyone that don't kno that is the episode where they talk about this episode coming out. Very very cool.
@@stanleykirby9462Yes, yes, the guy who built a hunting brand empire, multiple best selling books, and a James Beard award is overrated. Get over yourself. You aren’t special, you’re whining in youtube comments about someone who is special, so that you can pretend to convince yourself that you are memorable.
I live in Ontario, Canada, and I have only encountered 2 bobcats in my 64 years of life. One was memorable, mostly because I was an idiot. I was out walking the bush one day with my lab, and my malmute. They went on a chase and ended up treeing a bobcat. The tree was a 3 inch poplar, but it was tall. I really couldn't tell what was up the tree, so I decided to shake the shit out of it. Next thing I see is a falling cat, which is heading right for my head. I moved out of the way, and the cat hit the ground at my feet. My malmute grabbed it, but the cat got under it and was upside down clawing and biting at my dogs belly. I kicked the ct, and it let go and ran off. My advice to all is, don't shake any cat out of a tree without a back up plan.
Whoop Janis i appreciate your episisodes and hope you excuse me if I didn't spell your name or minguses right lol I appreciate you. "Janis Go get your turkey"
What a beautiful bobcat I've killed quite a few here in Texas I tell you what that one's very beautiful I haven't seen one with a coat like that before I have killed a black one which was dark gray and jet-black very rare but I've never seen one that pretty before that's for sure I hope you're he does a full mount
Great looking Bobcat! I just got my first in a trap this year, new to trapping. Do you know what the weight on it was? The fur is unbelievable! Also, looking for a Bobcat taxidermy recommendation!
@@janisputelis440 No it's not. That is 100% a Savage Rascal with the peep sight removed. It's a youth .22 bolt rifle. I bought my 8 year old one last year. Notice how tiny it is and they didn't even take the sticker off.
@@SkeeterValentine0 Look like he was carrying a .17 WSM at the end when they were tracking the lion. Probably carried that most of the week and only pulls out the .22 for bobcats.

What are the benefits to hunting cats? I can see how revenue from permits can have its uses but are there any ecological benefits to hunting cats? Love the show! - just wondering about this
Mountain lions are good to eat and it’s just another form of predator control. Bobcats are in the trapping class so being edible is not high on the list. You already explained the second (but just as important) reason.
Another benefit that the other responder didn't cover was, at least with mountain lions, the large males will often kill cubs to push females back into heat sooner. By removing the large, aggressive toms, it actually helps maintain a younger, healthier population.
@@janisputelis440 Pretty sweet rig Janis! Great video. I personally have not had much exposure to hunting with dogs, other than for birds. Really cool to see. Congrats on the beautiful bobcat!
yeah im pretty supportive of hunting but not sure how i feel about this when you have dogs doing so much of the leg work, just to pick it out of a tree that it’s stuck in
Hound hunting needs more coverage like this. This is awesome, keep it coming
Check out the Meateater New Zealand pig hunting episode..
@@___SG yessir. awesome episode as well!

Love seeing the tracking collars and Garmin Alphas, that system is a game changer even for rabbit hounds.

Love the hound hunting content! The silent hounds are sweet. Great job fellas!
If only I got to my hunting spot as early as I did to this video 😂
An advert for Cocaine Bear AND 25 minutes with Janis! Heck yeah!

Awesome hunt and beautiful cat.
This was awesome to watch and what a beautiful cat!

What is the GPS tech you're using? Cool video... would love to see what he does with the hide

Janis giving big Conan Obrien vibes while hanging in the cabin. Lol
What a great episode! Keep it coming fellas!
We need a recipe for that fast meat, Stat!
Great video! I'm from Oregon and it's a shame lion hunting with hounds has been outlawed. I have great memories of doing it when I was a teenager.
That's a beautiful cat.👍🏿👍🏿
that was a amazing shot
I need “quick meat” recipe asap
Yeah, what’s it called?! I’ve listened multiple times and can’t pull anything up on Google, we need that fast meat!
Nothing like the sound of a hound at the tree, beautiful cat Janis

And just to be clear Janis is awesome and so are all the other guys. But where’s rinella?
What first lite jacket does the other guy have on?
That was awesome
Where on earth are your snowshoes. I would never go wintertime cat hunting without snowshoes!
It's a pretty good job there on the filming and Is almost like a documentary

Atrais Klopsis. Translates to "fast meat."

They used a .22 to take the bobcat and a 17wsm for cougar hunting.
Have a buddy that ran hounds for bears for years and shot every one with FMJ 22mag👍
I thought this what a bobcat or lynx, mountain lions or cougars are bigger short hair cats?

i believe i heard him say he was a Blue Tick Coonhound
Listen to the start of the episode and you will find out.

It’s easy to tell the difference between Linx and bobcat tracks
Pretty nice bobcat. I have never ran them with dogs, but I have shot at least 100 several that measured 48” and a little better.
Wow 100 bobcats without hounds? Impressive
More!
Mountain kitty steaks and jerky are actually pretty darn good 👍
French Montana must be proud of his cousins

That's a really pretty bobcat. I've taken a couple in my 31 years but nothing with fur like that
did u eat it?

Hey! Montanan. thats a bobcat.
I want Steve back!!!!
I wonder if people eat the meat from a lion?
It is actually really good. To watch Steve Rinella try it just go back a couple seasons on meateater.
Saw Adam Greentree munch some mtn lion
I think it is very good and the folks from Meateater have also talked a lot about eating it.
It’s like pork
Go watch the episode Steve did a few years ago. He cooks up cougar in the episode after he kills it.
Love me some meateater!
