#suggestion for the Candidates series: Carlsen-Caruana from the 2014 Sinquefield Cup. Great attacking game by both players, both leave their Kings unguarded, wanting to all-out attack. This might still be Caruana's greatest tournament victory, producing a world record Tournament Performance Rating at the top level (TPR of 3098). He started the tournament 7/7 before drawing his final 3 games, finishing 8.5/10.
1000 thumbs up vs 11 thumbs down. Why would anyone dislike this video? Great game and excellent commentary. Must be the absents of Agadmator's best friend. That I can understand.
An interesting tactic was not mentioned: at the 6:14 mark if Black plays Nxc4, Rxc6 and "the knight cannot move..." except that it can, with Nd3 Rxc2 Ne1+ wins back the rook and Black is a piece up. The problem is that after white plays a6 the pawn cannot be stopped. OK well maybe everyone saw this in a flash but it shows how one tactic leads to another.
Magnus is one tricky bastard. I know he would have definitely finessed me in that position irl even though I did find the “pause the video” winning moves.
"I have no doubt all of you found this move." As far as I am concerned, you probably should have more doubts, Agad. But I appreciate your eternal optimism for my abilities lol
That Kg1 move is so clutch! It's crazy how all the other kings moves look okay at first glance because it seems like the king will have enough coverage to avoid checks and checkmate. But Kg1 is literally the only move. And even more interesting, Black has three ways of checking the king after Kg1, but Kh2 is the response to all of them and white barely escapes and wins.
The way we are going back in time, I am pretty sure we might see a video when magnus was 10 just to see the members of candidate tournament have a victory over him.
Me: finds the moves Agadmator: Congratulations, you are a true master of not blundering a completely winning game Meanwhile me in online chess: blunders every winning position 😂
For some reason I find it absurd that winning a candidates tournament jot just gives you a shot at the title, but also qualifies you for the next candidates (if you lose the world championship match). If the champion loses, he should be granted a slot at the next candidates. But if the challenger loses the match, he should have to earn the slot once again as they already had their shot.
It makes sense to me. I mean, i wouldn't say it's the best qualifying criteria or anything, but just that it seems fair. Unlike the others who just qualified *for* the candidates, the one person *won* the candidates, and giving them another shot at the next cycle makes things very competitive cuz they've proven they can do better than the rest of the field already.
The candidates is the hardest and most prestigious tournament in chess, so the winner should receive a big reward. I feel like a spot in the next candidates is fitting.
@@77seven77 Whilst I agree that candidates is the hardest and most prestigious tournament there is in chess, and I see your point as well, don't you think a shot at the World chess champion title is big enough already?
