- I read this book when I was in 8th grade and I am now 23. THIS WAS MY JOKER MOMENT & I am so glad I documented this for myself. This season was everything I could have hoped for and more. I LOVED IT. I don't think I've ever been this happy about a book adaptation. All 7 episodes were cinematic masterpieces. THANK YOU JENNY HAN FOR THIS UNIVERSE I LOVE YOU! NEW COMFORT SERIES UNLOCKED!!!! I was literally screaming the same way as you watching the whole show, I can't stress out enough how much the casting was amazingly done and I've totally developed an emotional attachment to every single one of them and watching the behind the scenes footages isn't helping!! A little detail that i liked is how good they did to Taylor in the book she did seem a little mean and annoying sometimes but they really showed how much of a real friend she is to Belly so big ups to them
Totally agree! She was rlly un likeable in the books & I loved how they changed that in the show. Makes my want my own very best gal pal
I’m team Jelly. I love how Jeremiah goes out of his way to tell Belly she's beautiful and just how special she is to him. He never leads her on or plays with her feelings like Conrad does. And before conrad stans come at me, yes i HAVE read the books.

I agree with what you said about the on screen Conrad being better than the book one like he was just so responsible. Always cleaning up after everyone and taking care of Susannah and like we literally got to see his pov. Loved every second of it

i just adore and love that Jenny allowed room for Jeremiah to be sexually fluid and not needing a label to define him since he is only 16/17. it’s truly refreshing and i want my Jeremiah (played beautifully by Gavin)!!

I loved the show so much. I feel like it captured the vibe and the charachters so well. I'm really exited to see what they do with season 2, because of the elements of the seocond book they brought into this season. I feel like S 2 could get a little messy with Belly having kissed Jere already. It will properbly be an emotional rollercoaster. And i cant wait!!!!

i loved this show so much! i read this series in middle school & i loved getting to see the changes & the characters come to life. the casting was so well done, i LOVED lola as belly!! & ofc cried like an absolute baby at the end of the show. the audacity to use funeral by phoebe bridgers 😭

I was cryinggg hysterically on the last episode! This show is so beautiful! I actually brought this book when it first came out and never actually read it! There actually were cute a few differences! Steven didnt play a big role in the books, there was no deb ball, Nicole wasnt as close w Conrad, the infinity necklace was in book 2, jeremiah and belly never kissed and when he confessed his feelings she said it was always going to be Conrad. Those are some differences i can think of at the top of my head!
idk I'm def team conrad only because he loves belly so much but he couldn't show in her in the way he wanted to, he carried such a big thing with him though out the show and it was because he didn't want to burden people with what he was going though. he didn't want to tell anyone because he didn't want it to be true, idk that just makes me loves his character so much more, even after the hurtful things he said to belly you could tell he instantly regretted saying those things. But I also love her with jer but I just think they are so platonic, but they have such an amazing bond with each other. loll sorry this is literally my comfort show. forever.

I would like to prefix by saying I did not read the book, I had no previous expectations, if anything my expectations were fairly low, maybee I would get some cute scenes to get excited about and that’s about it. However, I have been proved wrong. “So in love that I act insane” - as Taylor Swift would say it. I genuinely fell head over heels for this show. Let’s start from the bottom to the top. The soundtrack was immaculately chosen, haven’t been that impressed and hooked on a show soundtrack since heartstopper (well they do use “Dover Beach” so..). Taylor Swift fits so incredibly and emphasizes everything we see on the screen and what is happening in our hearts. Personally, my favorite was the use of “Funeral” by Phoebe Bridgers in the last tearful moment, I already knew the song and I deeply relate on an emotional level to it, so as soon as I heard the first note and combining it with what the scene was I just started bawling. Secondly, the visuals: I was very pleasantly surprised, the artistry was there, use of color to portray the mood, everything clearly well thought out. Thirdly, the cast: oh what a pleasure it was to see a cast so perfect together. I doubt there was any performance that felt lackluster, though granted I don’t have any reference to the books. My favorite performances, aside from the main characters, include of course Jackie Chung (Laurel) and Rachel Blanchard (Susannah). It was so refreshing to see a fully fleshed out relationship between the woman and character aside from them being “just the mothers”, they care, struggle, love and hate and they rely on each other which is so endearing. An honorable mention goes to Sean Kaufman (Steaven) and Minnie Mills (Shayla), although I wasn’t particularly awaiting their scenes, their chemistry was done very well and I appreciated the story line. Now for the finale, Conrad, Belly and Jeremiah - the most angsty, perfect and lovable “triangle”. All their scenes are insane, and I’ve been rewatching them for the past two days, every smirk and intense look from Conrad, every hug and bright smile from Jeremiah. My heart is racing everytime I see any of them interacting with Belly, although I do have my favorite and after a long debate inside my mind I can say that for me it's undoubtedly Conrad. I wish I had a Conrad of my own, or a Jeremiah, I wouldn’t complain. So summing up, the plot of the show is not overly complicated, but it is simply beautiful. The vibes of the show make me want to fly to North Carolina right now and spend my whole summer there, surf in the ocean, go on bike rides, party with friends and fall in love. When it comes to vibes it strongly reminds me of the movie “The way way back”, which somehow is one of my favorite movies ever, specifically for the east coast summer vibes. If after reading this anybody is still wondering whether they should watch this show, stop. Spend your next 6 hours watching the wholesome show “The summer I turned pretty”.

I read the books and I could be mistaken but wasn’t it Jeremiah who always liked Belly since they were kids and was always nicer and in the books he left it as one sided until Belly said she was “over” Conrad and unpopular opinion he didn’t cheat they were on a break
yep they were on a break. I don’t think he cheated either and yeah u see in the second book jere talking about his “game changing moment” and he talks about how it’s not fair conrad ignored her for years and is now noticing her

I’m definitely team jere when I read the books I was kind of in the middle more towards Team Conrad tho but like I wasn’t like either when I read the books but I’m definitely more towards team Jere now I was more towards team Conrad but because of the show I’m definitely team jere the show made me change my mind at least so far we’ll see how the next seasons go

I agree, Nicole doing that to Belly and Taylor just because of what CONRAD did totally sucked. Like Belly made Conrad send her that text or fall for her. To me, that was just a petty thing to do because she was angry. And somehow BELLY had to apologize for it? Like 🙄

@@xojazzle I personally loved Nicole's friendship with Belly. That was a nice change compared to the books. But it made me so mad she didn't apologize when Belly did nothing wrong and was a supportive friend. How was Belly in the wrong?? And, YES. I first discovered the books at 14/15 and they became a STAPLE of my childhood book nerd years. This was total nostalgia for us fans who grew up with Jenny Han. I loved the "2022 version" of this story. I can't wait for S2 but, as a Team Conrad fan, also feel SUPER nervous. 😬 Where's the S3 announcement?! lol

Since it really ruined his character, fans are hoping to see some "fixing" to it. As a Team Conrad fan, I want to see Chris act out the "Don't be with him. Be with me." scene because, team Conrad/Jere, that's going to render ALL OF US in tears for poor Conrad. lol
