Also, you’re so right about the dad should’ve been the villain. Because the set up was already there and it was tied to Susannah, it also exemplifies the difference between Conrad and Jer with how they think about their dad, the differing relationship they have with him, the different expectations the dad had for them and how it’s made both characters who they are. I remember Conrad, in book 3, talking about his complicated feelings about his dad and basically shows how it’s made him the way he is. It’s so much more interesting!! It would tie in so well with how Belly’s relationships with either brother differ too. I feel like they could’ve done so much more with Laurel too. More family stuff!!! Plus it really felt like I was just watching Conrad choke all season like…. SPEAK UP!!!!
We do need to blame Susannah, all of the mess is her fault. Since Belly was a CHILD she told her that she wanted her to marry one of her boys

i think belly and jere’s relationship does shine a lot of light on the sexual tension and lust they feel for each other, but i think it also shows the side where they feel like best friends. and i feel throughout, but especially in the last episode, you have jere vocally communicating to both belly and conrad ‘look i just want her to be happy and have what’s best’ and i don’t think that should be discredited or neglected just cuz they are a more obvious sexual couple than belly and conrad are

It’s just annoying how people keep pushing for more sexlessness. In teen dramas of old, Conrad would have found them half naked in the backseat of his car. In teen dramas of today a light neck grab while they kiss is too racy and an act of pure lust. Seriously how did we get to this point?
Sexual desire is not the opposite of love, care, and respect. It is meant to work in tandem if that is what you want.
@@birdiewolf3497 never said they can’t be. Just saying the way they portray it in the show comes across like he is just a guy that wants a hookup. He wasn’t like that so much in the book. But in the show he’s like a player and it comes across like he’s just a horny teenager that wants belly because she’s a shiny new toy and then it becomes like a competitive thing with his brother because he’s felt like he’s been in Conrad’s shadow his whole life. It feels more like he just wants to “beat” Conrad and have belly.
Just a little fun fact no one cares about, I live in Wilmington NC where tsitp is filmed, and I work at a Starbucks in town. I usually work opens, and one day like five minutes after we opened (5 am-ish) Lola and Chris came through the drive thru. Didn't realize it was them until they were driving off but I like knowing I made their coffee once at the ass crack of dawn lol

Honestly I think the addition of Skye and Aunty Julia was completely to fulfill a quota of adding a queer character into the storyline. The thing is, if we're adding that in, it should have substance, the character should have layers and there acting/storyline should have an impact on the audience, not just adding a queer character like Skye having no personality what so ever with the acting not making up for much either. I'm glad you actually spoke up about that because I didn't like Skye and Aunt Julia's characters at all, the acting wasn't helping either and they felt bland as hell and was ruining the vibe of the group which we grew to love first season. Overall, I'm kind of like you Trin, didn't like this season tbh so hopefully season 3 is a bit better.
Not to mention not having Shayla at all smh having a queer character really was unnecessary tho and cam had a cameo so why would he need a love interest? lol it really was kinda dumb like Adam probably could’ve been a main this season but when she mentioned the realtor sleeping with him I gasped bc I’ve never read the books but damn that would’ve been such juicy drama and I guess they wanted to end it on a good note with him instead. Just feels like they just didn’t know what they were doing until the parents stepped in lmao

@@vashtinayagar1325 yea that’s partly why I thought they were adding Skye cause everyone thought they’d be his love interest and they just turn out to be his long lost cuzzo 🙄 like I know they’re trying to be more modern than the weird books from ‘09 but give them depth at least and I have a feeling he will meet someone in the next season and the possibility I see of belly going back to Conrad is if he either comes clean once he’s returned from college or having something bad happen like jer maturing and realizing they don’t actually have chemistry aside from friendship and breaking belly’s heart or finally meeting someone else and cheating but idk seems a bit unlikely since she kinda already cheated lol we shall see I guess

I was always team Jeremiah from the start but as someone who hasn’t read the books I know damn well she’s gonna break Jeremiah’s heart again and go with Conrad that just seems to be the obvious endgame.

I personally am very iffy about Conrad because he has moments where he’s really sweet and compassionate towards belly but then when he has the opportunity to express his feelings, he doesn’t and then for him to say, I thought you knew truly pissed me off.
I'm SO glad someone else brought up the fact that the song choices are jarring bc i've been thinking it since season 1. Why is there a song playing in every scene????? It feels like they just plucked the songs off of spotify's top 40 instead of actually matching it to the scene. XO playing in the scene before Exile gave me whiplash, they really should've done one or the other (in my opinion they shouldn't have had XO during the kiss bc it wasn't really that big of a moment compared to belly "letting conrad go")
THIS HAS BEEN MY ISSUE SINCE SEASON 1 😭😭 ITS SO FORCED LMAOO. especially with the random taylor swift/olivia rodrigo songs playing in random scenes where it doesn’t even fit… like what happened to original scores? not every scene needs a “pop” song, it’s mad awkward. just wanna fit in so bad with the kids and be praised for the soundtrack.

I saw someone say Susannah was a perfectionist and would have taken care of the will and house before she passed. That’s why the show adaptation and aunt Julia makes no sense. In the book the dad just wanted to sell the house because upkeep was too expensive.
the first season worked so well because they added the debutant ball. this season had pretty bad structure because we weren’t working towards anything. it was literally all just the relationship drama (plus a little bit of the house drama but that was really just the same plot over and over again in every episode). this season felt like fan fiction that someone would’ve written based on the events of the first season.

I really liked your conclusion! I read the books after the first season and what really stuck with me was that the love triangle was the framing mechanism for the story and the plot was driven by it superficially, but the story was truly about Susanna and what it meant to have her and lose her. She was so present and so affecting in every part of the story, she really is the driving force of every plot point. I felt like you really hit the nail on the head when you said the story is really about grief. It's not driven by the drama of some estranged relative it's driven by the effect Susanna had on everyone's lives.
THE HOLY DAY HAS COME
On the note of Susannah being the villain. Anyone else think it was inappropriate for her to trust Conrad with the secret of her imminate death and expect him to keep that from his brother. Hes literally already being parentified by her death and knowing he will be primarily responsible for the well being of Jeremiah once she passes away and now shes making him keep secrets from his brother and increasing a feeling of competition between siblings. One of whom is expected toook after the other. Its actually really messed uo when you think about it

I loved the second season so much more the acting felt better from the main characters. The connection with Jeremiah and Belly felt more passionate and real than her and Conrad therefore I still like Jeremiah as a better option

Im team Jeremiah but I respect Conrad too granted he acts like an a-hole sometimes but still, what I've seen from a lot of Conrad girlies is that they use that his mom was dying as an excuse for him being emotionally absent or just being shitty. Still, people forget Jeremiah lost his mom too, also the fact that Jeremiah has to push both belly and conrad to finally have a meaningfull convo shows that he didn't assert himself between them and the scene where Conrad goes to Jeremiah to ask for his blessing I loved that scene even tho I'm team Jeremiah. Still, it showed that at that moment Conrad cared enough and in a sense knew that his brother was hurt after what he and belly did, and also the way Conrad girlies shit talk about Jeremiah is crazy like she asked him to go to the ball than he wasn't there for the dance cause of good reason!! then he sees Conrad dancing with her and then he finds out Conrad knew about the cancer coming back for months and choose to keep it to himself, AND THEN THE NEXT MORNING belly tells him that she kissed Conrad and shes with him now, like he had all the right to be upset, like he had to watch his mom slowly pass while his brother dated his childhood best friend who liked for years, and then i see conrad girlies make tiktoks clowning on him like make it make sense
