Love that you did a video on your favorite tools!! While I am not a professional like you, I enjoy doing projects for myself and family. I need that pneumatic stapler!! Game changer!! I don’t do anything for public either, but do want to get into doing some pieces to sell. Thanks for sharing your tools!
Would like to see videos on measuring fabric for a novice. Especially like florals or paisley patterns and how to match them. Thanks for all the great info!
Please do a video about sewing different fabrics and the essential supplies that are needed. This is my new passion and you have been the best teacher I've found yet!!
Please talk about the materials you use such as different types of foam, different types of fabric and uses of the fabric ie., indoor, outdoor, auto, marine. I know that’s a lot but I need to know a lot. Just starting out and redoing boat interior.
I give another vote for this type of video! Also [im redoing the inside of a van] which has a lot of ¿vinyl/vyinal? in it; I just finished reading about the heat sheets of that stuff. It seemed it only gets used on wearable fabrics, like t shirts & what not. 🕵Is that something i could use on my seats or even the harder stuff? Thanks if you answer or even read this all the way. 👍💁
Thanks for doing this video. I just started reupholstering as a hobby and picked up a couple Victorian pieces with no idea where to begin. Knowing the tools I will need will be very helpful.
Hello Aimee, Wow! I’m so glad your channel showed up on my UA-cam feed!! You are a very meticulous & talented professional!! And an absolutely wonderful instructor!! I enjoy watching your videos!! I learned sooo much from you!! So much so - that I know I do not want to attempt to upholster my chairs!! I did the seats to my 6 dining chairs over 20 years ago, I enjoyed doing them & they looked nice!! But, just last month & went to a professional upholstery shop & they are going to do all my projects for me - so I am waiting 3 months for my items to be ready!! Because they are that busy!! Your students & customers must be totally thrilled to have found you!! Take care!! I hope you can continue to create & share more videos!!
Husbands come & go but a great pair of shears will last a lifetime! LOL! You are funny. LOVE your videos. We are in the process of reupholstering dining chairs. Let me just say, you definitely make it look so easy, but it certainly is not! You are most certainly a PRO!
I found your video while trying to do some research before starting my first project. I now know some basic tools that I will need, so thanks for that! I'm going to look at your other videos after this comment but just for some feedback to you, I would love to find a video that kind of walks us through a simple beginner project. I want to reupholster my loveseats but I'm starting to think I should start with something a bit smaller for my first project. I enjoyed this video!!!
Number 6 tack hammer. For decorative nails (finished nails) they must the C.S Osborne 6oz Nylon Tip Magnetic Hammer #36 so as to not damage the nail/finish.
These videos are great! Thank you for making them. Few questions... 1. What makes a "good" pair of shears? What length is best? 2. Where do you buy your upholstery specific tools and supplies? (I'm from Dartmouth 😊) 3. What are the sizes of your needles? (You showed your largest and smallest, I'm guessing 4"-1.5" but what's in between /how many sizes? Please keep doing these videos! I've been wanting to do this for a living but I have very limited resources in this area for reliable knowledge, thank you for sharing your experience! I'd really like to see which tools are used for which jobs and I would like to learn... 1. How to properly measure fabric. 2. How to choose and shop for fabric and where you choose to buy it. 3. How to do tufted buttons and cording. 4. What makes a piece difficult vs easier? In other words, how to choose a project that is challenging for your skill level but not in over your head, like in what order would you put things in if you were to chapter them in a book lol? Thank you again, you're my local heroine/idol, I've been folloing your website for years now.
I love my Wiss shears. Find a pair that are comfortable for you. You can buy your supplies at Comfort Foam in Burnside. The needle sizes aren’t that important. Have a variety on hand and use the size that seems suitable for the job. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for sharing the equipment you use. I would love to have a video on the supplies you use. I have done a few projects but look forward to doing more. Your videos are very helpful. Of course having a nice "dedicated" area to work is huge with good lighting!!!!
I'm definitely interested in knowing about essential supplies as well as what tools you should invest in if you want to step your game up! Hope to see more of your great content!
A useful hint about the Parsons chair.if you finish stapling the front before finishing the sides.you can make sure the pattern on the front is straight.otherwise the corners left and right look slightly pulled down
Thanks for the video. It has great information that is presented with passion and humor. I will likely be starting a couple of upholstery projects in the coming months and will use this as a reference.
helpful... I'm just a DIY but I do run into needing to do very light upholstery from time to time and it's a skill I'd like to improve... so far all your videos have been very helpful in that regard
New Subscriber. Soooo intimidated by this craft. I’m a Newbie. I’m from many generations of furniture restoration, not upholstery though. My 1st project is a love seat with reclining ends that I used to sleep on as a 4 yr old. Now 50 years later. It was damaged during the Baton Rouge floods.
Hi please talk more about your shears brand name and where you bought it and the size. What to look for in buying a good pair. Do you recommend Fiskars? Also can you do a video on how to make sure the pattern or lines on fabric is straight. I watched one video but you went too fast and didn't catch that part. What do you do if there is a repeating pattern. Also can you do videos on what fabric choices for chairs. Pkease make the videos more often. Thank yoy
Your video was very helpful I need to take 6in off of a sofa it's a sectional so I can work with a small piece that goes in the corner of the room but I just need to take 6 inches off so I can get it snug to fit
Thank you for your video. Looking for recommendations on removing & re-installing existing fabric backing to remove a cellphone that fell through an unknown hole in the base of the couch.
Hi Aimee, your videos are always clear and straight to the point with some humour thrown in for a laugh! I am considering some DIY projects and would love to do this as a profession. Thanks, from Belinda at Port Macquarie NSW Australia :-)
I enjoy your videos immensely. Thank you so much. I would love to see how to do button tucking in leather or car upholstery suitable material. Thanks again. 😆
Very helpful information! Thank you. I am struggling a bit with a round leather covered ottoman. It has a groove cut in the wood that provided a channel to staple the leather and then the leather piping. Do you have any content that could demonstrate that technique? Thanks again for sharing your expertise.
Thank you, watched this twice so far. I have done some upholstery and more slip covers. But, an getting ready to do a couple chairs for the living room. And, apparently feeling inadequate🤪. So, gonna get an air gun, Amazon is out of yours...And, keep watching🤗
Very informative. Something I noticed on a chair upholstering segment was a pointed end saw used to cut foam. Is this a necessity or will something else work as well for a beginner? Thank you.
watch your video on staple remover tools. Bought the Osborn two prong one. Works great saved me a lot of time and work. Thanks. Keep the videos coming.
I just subscribed and I can’t wait to see what else you have posted! Hopefully a basic project for beginners and an explanation of the various materials used in upholstery.
Your videos are awesome. You make it look so fun. ! I'd love to know if you have a step-by-step set of videos for a novice (like me) to learn to upholster.

I'm putting together a business plan and want to have all my expenses covered.....no pun intended! Thanks again!!!

Hey, just watched your video. I’m fairly new to this but I’ve taken on restoring and antique French bed. Lots of upholstery tacks! What is the regulator for???
Tough week at the ranch and needed a change of pace! The seats I repair and recover use high density foam, could you give a brief lesson on shaping and repairing a section of damaged foam. Love your humor. Great information. I had a sewing business out of my home for 10 years when my children were little. I made custom draperies, etc. for home decor. I played around a little with upholstery and really liked it. I am thinking of starting an upholstery business now. Any advice? Thanks!!!
Thanks for the informative video. What about sourcing all the various materials for upholstery work (preferably wholesale siurces). Where do u get your materials?
My father died 3 months ago he had business doing this i been working with him off and on, but now he gone I want to keep going mostly I took coaches apart. Hello! Artisan Upholstery Studio: Great videos! What do you call the material underneath a tub chair or most chairs that covers the springs that's the last piece seen on most chairs? How can we post items of items for you to see? I also have a tub chair foot that I am replacing. Love to hear your tips on the process. I will review most of your videos for these tips, as well. You also need to purchase the hose and couplers, but any hardware store staff could help you figure out what you need.
What is the length of the regulator do you use? Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I am learning a lot with you, and would like to know how to do the “pleats” when working with buttons.
Thank you. I refuse to watch any other upholsterer on UA-cam. You are a pro and a great teacher.
Thank you so much 😊

How much air pressure does your stapler require to drive the staples home?
About 90psi I believe (I set it many years ago) but play around until you get yours right
I didn’t pause but spit my water everywhere 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂GREAT VIDEO 🙌🙌🙌

The extra tool. Yes please.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge,
Hi! I love your videos! Your work is beautiful. What staple size do you use?
Hi Aimee. Your videos are Awesome! It doesn’t hurt that your so beautiful....your smile is contagious. Do you have any tips on reupholstering a seat for a John Deere lawn mower with a metal base?
Supplies! Yes please.
Very good information video keep up the good work

Hi Claire,
All my links are in the video description! Take care, Aimee
Please add video of fabric you need and other essentials, would really be helpful
Check out the essential supplies video. Might be what you’re after
Amy, when stapling cushion covers, in preparation to sewing them, where are you stapling? In the seam allowance or beyond. Thanks.
Gr8 video! Just starting out with thrifting pieces of redo. Really like the idea of essential items for starting, and if websites you find advantageous for purchase listing those too. Do you recommend any fabric store that sell upholstery fabric, and if so what are the specific things as durability aka longevity for piece of furniture. I find many upholstery stores (Denver Fabric) gorgeous fabrics that are varied price ranges, and many that make one literally visualizes the article of furniture it should go on. Await more videos.
Love your videos
Hi Amy love your work very clear instructions on all your videos.
Where can I purchase that staple remover?
Hey, just watched your video. I’m fairly new to this but I’ve taken on restoring and antique French bed. Lots of upholstery tacks! What is the regulator for???
Thank you so much! Could you please make a video on how to cover and attach and arm panel on a sofa please?
Tough week at the ranch and needed a change of pace! The seats I repair and recover use high density foam, could you give a brief lesson on shaping and repairing a section of damaged foam. My equipment consists of a mechanical stapler, odd types and sizes of whatever foam I can scrounge up, old flat sections of used seat covers to put over repairs before installing the cover and a roll of warehouse tough shrink-wrap to hold everything in place on a rough jobs before the cover gets fitted. I am the last resort for most people before they have to replace the entire seat and by keeping my prices low and being creative helped to create a small following. New foam is only an option for a few makes and models out of the hundreds that have been produced, shipping a used seat is no bargain. The last seat I got from Beaumont Texas cost me $56.14 and that cost more then the seat that needed plenty of work. Sorry about rambling but I'm hustling 3 part time jobs and don't get out much. Thanks
It’s always good to use up your scraps of foam for smaller projects. 👍
Loved the video Aimee!
I am interested in some specifics please. Brand of your staple gun; narrow, medium or wide crown staples; 16 or 18 gauge, and the length of staples that should be used. Thanks in advance!
Brand doesn’t matter, just needs to be specific for upholstery. 3/8” x 3/8” staples, 22 gauge.
Thank you so much for sharing. Liked and subscribed. I'll be watching them all!
Welcome! 😊
Thanks for your videos . Do you not use tacks when reupholstering?
good video thanks for the time you took
Just getting started and love your videos!!! I think I will follow your methods.
Have you ever considered creating a training program? I create them for other clients and also am a paid subscriber of a few woodworking training programs and guitar programs.
Yes, I definitely have. I still have my notes from when I was in trade school, with every subject clearly mapped out the way the instructor taught it. I only need the time....😂
@@ArtisanUpholsteryStudio I create training programs for my clients. Would you be interested in collaborating?

I'm interested please. I think your work is amazing and inspiring.
Thank you, but I would like to know what you use that long pokey thing for.
It has many uses, you’ll see me using it in all my videos
Thank you again for the video, loved it! I would like to know what the “black handled pokey thing” is used for. Stay safe in these crazy days
Thanks !!

Hi Aimee, love your videos they are really informative and inspiring.
I was wondering if you could tell me what width staples do you use 3/8 or 1/2”. I’m looking to buy a Meite stapler, I think it’s the same one you’re using in this video.
Thanks Aimee
I use 3/8”. All my tools are listed in the description
What gauge stapler should I purchase? I need to upholster a boat seat.

Wow very interesting wants to learn more.
New subbie here...Great video! I have 6 chairs to upholster for myself. I realize I'm three years late but I would love to know more about your compressor set up and attachments. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Khorydan, thanks for your comment. Any reputable compressor would be good (Porter Cable or Campbell Hausfeld would be my recommendations) 4 gallon size is fine for one person stapling.
