For a year I lived with my broken button couch!!! It was so annoying... I watched your video and I was able to fix it! How grateful I am man,, god bless!
Life saver! This is my first UA-cam commentary. I had a tufted button loose on our family sofa for 7 years! I hate it and even contemplated buying another sofa. Finally found the courage to fix myself. I used the DIY substitute German needle. Thank you so much! I got my sofa back!!!❤❤❤
I really really love the video. I love how much effort and thought you put in to make it cost-friendly for everybody!
Thank you for the expert advice! Attached a button to our tufted coffee table that was off for 5+ yrs!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you for this video. We've had our chesterfield for about a year and a button already popped on it. Glad to have a DIY method in order to fix it quickly, easily, and inexpensively.
Thank you for this video. I was able to fix my bench after a button fell off with a bent washer and Kevlar thread. Also thank you for your other slip knot video!
Thank you so very much, unbelievable timing! Keep up the great work. I so wish I lived close to you so I could take classes live rather than being here in Australia. When are the online classes coming? Soon I hope. 🙏
This is great. Thank you so much. I bought a couch used and thought I got a great deal. When I got home, it wasn’t long until I realized a button had been popped.
Thank you! I love the DIY German needle! You’re the best. Totally worked for a beautiful leather mid-century task chair. You saved me from making a huge mistake on how I was going to try and sew the button back on! It would have made it worse! Brilliant!
Perfect! I especially appreciate the home made tool idea as I only wish to change out buttons on a stick piece to make it look more custom.
You sir, are forever in my prayers!! Thank you 🙏🏻
That was so very helpful!! Thank you so much! So kind of you to share your upholstery hack!
Very creative work-around, thanks for the great tip!!
I just tried your hack with the washer and pliers and it worked like a charm! Thanks
Brilliant! My partner, an engineer, was skeptical but it worked like a charm. Thanks!
Love that you’ve shared such a handy tip. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your invented technique! Very helpful!
Great tip, but the tufting was present in your video and all that needed to be done was re-attach the button. What do you do if the fabric popped out, too? My daughter just inherited a new sofa and one of the tufts is out (with the button still attached to the fabric). 😔

Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Fantastic instructions! Thank you so much.
Great tip! Thanks for all the information you so selflessly share. God bless 🙏
Never too old to learn a new trick! I will be trying out your tip for fixing my BUTTON! Thanks for your time in making a video never know when or where someone might need to view it...
Thanks very much for the technical knowhow. Please add something on the selection and sizes of twine.
Thanks! True master of your craft sir
Wow! Brilliant. Thanks so much.
WOW, thank you, I've just bought a secondhand sofa with 2 loose buttons, I'm now on the case!
You are a life saver. Thank you so much You are exceptional.
Thank you so much! I'm looking forward to fixing my popped bottons!
Changed my life 💓 thank you
Genius! Thank you ☘️
THANK YOU so much!!!
Wow you're a legend - thank you ♡
Brilliant, thank you
That black chair is 😍
Thank you. I just fixed flat uncomfortable sofa cushions using stuffing from throw cushions how you showed us and stitching up a torn zip. The corners & edges do make a big difference. I still hate the ugly brown sofa but it’s been saved from landfill for another year until I can get a better one and it’s comfy now.
Por fin alguien que da una solución al problema de volver a colocar un botón de tapicería sin el artefacto imposible de conseguir. Señor muchísimas gracias.
Youre a legend!! Thank you!
You’re awesome!! Thank you
Great idea, I tried with the washer but could not get it to hold. But you got me thinking... I took a white plastic drywall anchor, drilled a hole through the middle for the string and sharpened the point. I screwed this into the back of the couch stuffing through the hole and it held! Happy dance! Thanks for helping me solve how to fix.
Aw man this worked so much better. “Plastic wall anchors”. That thing actually stuck inside when you pull the thread.
I watched this video and it looks like it will work great for my project. I have one question. Is this only for replacing the button or will this create the tuft as well. I recently purchased a chair which needs a button and tuft repaired.
Thank you!
I was given a very nice chair from my mother and a button came off.
Great fix, I used a small paper clip.
Good upholstery work I like 👍 because I am also sofamaker upholsterer
Thank you sir❤
THANK YOU! You are the best. You just saved me $1500.00 So helpful. Trefler's will forever have my business.
Genius. Just fixed a button on my couch with this method.
I used a modification on your technique on an inexpensive chair that my daughter really loves. The button was dangling loose so I cut the thread holding it only to find out that the backing was too thin to hold the washer (kind of like cotton balls thickness.) So, I found a piece of dowel about 3 inches long and drilled a hole in the middle. I threaded the nylon twine thru the hole and pushed the dowel into the hole past the backing so it would turn sideways. Then I just followed your slipknot process and it worked fine. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have the same issue on my new $5000 leather sofa. I need some bite to pull the tufting back in.
I love this video, but I was wondering, how would you fix a button that was still connected by the strings to the sofa that was slightly popped out of the tufting?
Oh thank you so much
Cool tip, guna try it, thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you very much!
How do you bend the washer?
How do you do the back of a solid chair tufting thanks

Would STRONG FISHING LINE work in place of string in TUFTING REPAIR?
I have a sofa that appears to have snap together buttons. The top part of the button popped off and the back side is still tufted to the sofa. Is there a way to re-attach the top part of button? I can't find anything showing this. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your washer idea, sadly when I tried this the washer came straight back out😞
How do you bend a washer without all the fancy tools?
Does this work for button that has come out of a bed mattress?
Hi! I have a sofa that the tufts are still in place but the stitching on diagonal leading to the tuft has unraveled. Any tips?
Thank you
Thanks for the home remedy idea!
Great tip but how do you fix a button that has pulled inside the couch and the tufting has been released?
That's my exact question.
has anybody found this solution ?
That’s in graduate school upholstery 🤷🏻♂️

I am also interested in this issue
My sofa’s buttons don’t have a metal loop on the other side instead it’s got 2 metal strips that hooks up on something inside the sofa. Any ideas how to fix that kind of button?
How do you clean velvet ?
Thanks a million... you saved me lots of $$$.
Omg he is my doppelgänger and I’m an upholsterer too.
Would this work on a leather couch? My button is still attached but it keeps popping off.
Around the button itself is becoming unsewn making it loose. How does one fix the unsewn seam?
Great video. I need to do this on my eames lounge chair and ottoman. One button popped on each piece. Ive got the needle, clasps and twine. But did you ever make the slipknot tutorial video you referred to?
Did this work? Just popped a button on my eames chair. It's the part you sit on unfortunately
@@ianbarrett7869 Ha! Thanks for the reminder. Still on the to-do list unfortunately. But I've just noticed the slipknot tutorial video here, so maybe I'll try it this weekend. Will be sure to update and let you know how it goes. Just hope I can find the buttons in my bottom drawer!
Please do!
Okay, so I've done the popped button on the ottoman. It's somewhat loose though. The main problem is that the clasp has nothing to anchor behind. I inserted it as deep as the tufting needle would go, but when I pull on the thread it just brings the clasp to the surface. So the clasp is anchored directly behind the leather rather than deep in the stuffing. Seems I'll be unable to restore it to that punched look. I'm open to any tips from anyone.
What holds the washer inside the sofa?
My bent washer keeps pulling right back out of the hole. What am I doing wrong? What is the secret to getting it to lodge in place so that I can tighten the button onto it?
When you talk about a "German needle" are you referring to a C.S.Osborne #417 tufting needle? The 417 is a device that places a small metal clasp with a cord attached behind all the webbing?
They sound like the same thing just different names in different areas, I assume.
awesome!
I have a question for you. I have a nice couch, but two buttons the fabric has popped around button but button is still attached inside. Is there a way to repair that.
Well done. You just saved my ottoman from the fire.
Thank you.. Helped :-)
Thank you bro, for your ideas, am from the ZANZIBAR ISLANDS, TANZANIA EAST AFRICA
My button has fallen through into the sofa..is there a way to fix this? Thank you!!

I have a question 🤔⁉️ I'm trying to repair a popped cushion but it doesn't have buttons it was just sewn in like one with just thread and I'm guessing a knot? Should I send you a picture? 🤔🤷
You just saved me 50 British pounds for a sofa referb call out! Thank you!
3:47 for home remedy. You need a washer, twine, pliers and the button.
Exelente
If you have a $10,000, or more expensive today, sofa, why would it be an issue to invest on a German needle in the first place, or even pay a professional to do it for you? Beautiful sofa.
That's exactly what the owner of the sofa in the video did: brought it to a professional for repair.
And speaking for all wealthy people: life is too short to be wasted on scouring the internet for some obscure device that'll only be used once, not to mention the time involved in making the actual repair.
Rich folk ain't got time for that.
Thank you!
