This is good advice here....Professional equipment managers wash gear in washing machines. Good enough for them, good enough for us. I've used a machine to wash my gear since Wally Tatomir (EM for the Hurricanes) said it was cool to do so back about 1999....so 25 years. Use liquid detergent and wash on a gentle or handwash cycle. Air dry. Great video!
I really, really appreciate your videos but no, please no! You're going to ruin your equipment so fast this way 😕 Just trying to help out other new hockey people! I play both goalie and forward so I clean a LOT of hockey gear, lol. It's expensive, I want my gear to last as long as possible. If you HAVE to use a washing machine put it on soak setting, don't run the machine. From my experience the helmet is fine to throw in, too. Don't use liquid laundry soap because it leaves a film on your gear. Dry powdered soap is a no-no because it sticks to your gear and you will have laundry soap dust everywhere! Like everywhere, lol. I recommend Oxi-clean. Let the machine fill up then handwash your gear. Don't ever run the washing machine!!! Straps can get caught, the rubbing together and things getting bent the way they're not supposed to... I got a weird cut on a pair of shoulder pads using the delicate setting. Anecdotal evidence, heh. I highly, highly recommend handwashing. Please, please do NOT use the dryer. Again, movement will cause pieces of your equipment to get caught and twist in ways they weren't designed to. The heat is also really bad! It will ruin the leather in your gloves very fast and it ruins the elastic in your straps. Heat is very bad!! I recommend hanging and air drying, along with a fan, at room temp. Maybe a spritz or 2 of disinfectant. Sorry for being so critical, this is just all from my experience. I prefer the bathtub method; drying is really the most important part. I can't afford new gear often, especially playing 2 positions, so when I saw this video I was dying a little bit inside, lol. Sorry but hope it helps others!

Thank you!! It really gets it SO much cleaner than the bathtub too.
Thank you so much for this! I need to clean my gear properly!!
Great! I am sure all your teammates appreciate it! :)
Thank you so much for this video! What a wonderful lady you are to let us know this
Thank you! :)
I dont have a bathtub so this will be the best thing to do😊
Can padding shrink if put in hot water? I actually hope to shrink my shoulder pads as they are a bit too bulky. lol
I actually am not sure on that :( I would think it *could* shrink so if you don't want it to, then don't do it. But I have never had anything shrink.
Does your machine have an agitator?
I believe so.
Breezers? Must be from Minnesota.
Haha my family just moved to minny. My son and I both play and it's been a bit of a culture shock hockey wise.

Can I put shoulder pads in?
Thank you!! This is really helpful. I only do this around once a year and would not recommend for goalie gear. These are all great tips!
I do, but I don't have any plastic on mine. You may want to read the tag, and if you're worried, opt for soaking in the bathtub.

I say give it a go. Try it once. Be very careful. Gentle cycle and air dry. Every washing machine is different
