Just did this on my 2010 X-Terra (horn not working). The hardest part for me was that 19mm center nut, so I drove the car to a nearby mechanic shop and had him unscrew it. Drove home and replaced the clock spring with ease after that. Nissan dealer quoted close to $1000 for this job. Cost me total of $40 for this replacement. Thank you!
I used this yesterday on an '08 Frontier, worked like a charm. 2 separate mechanics quoted me in the ballpark of $850. As someone with very little car experience this took me 1 hour with zero issues. Great video!
I was able to change my clock spring on my 2007 Titan yesterday thanks to this video. My only recommendation is to use a deep 10mm socket when removing the airbag, the holes on mine were so tight that a short one would come off the extension and fall inside the steering wheel. I concur with everyone else here THANK YOU so much for this video!!!!
Outstanding instructional video! I have a 2007 Frontier and followed this video (for the most part...will clarify...) and is worked like a charm. Just a little heads up for armada folks, anyone who has an 08-15 just be mindful of the angle sensor behind the clock spring. It can be reused but just make sure it lines up correctly and is seated properly so you won’t have to take your car to get an alignment with sensor reset.
This video was very helpful. For those with the steering angle sensor, I did not disconnect mine from the harness, unscrewed from old clock spring and screwed to the new one. I also tried to not rotate the sensor at all(not sure this helped). Put everything back together and no slip/vdc lights. No airbag light too! Thanks for the video.
Just picked up an 07 Frontier that needs a new clock spring (no horn, no cruise function unless wheel is turned all the way to one side) and feels more difficult than it should to turn the wheel. Great tutorial video and awesome safety tips. The airbag was the only thing that gave me pause about doing this myself, but with power posts disconnected and seeing that it's just 3 plugs, I'm alot more comfortable tackling this. thank you!
@@Rythecarguy Thank you! Sadly, my son was involved in a car accident that same weekend with my truck (he is just fine, no injuries) but due to the old age of the truck the insurance company declared it a total loss as there was significant frame damage in the front end. Just wanted to thank you for doing this video, am not really mechanically inclined, however, your video helped me immensely!! Appreciate your effort and time for doing this. It really is a blessing!!
Great video. I may have to do this, my cruise control has stopped working. The light doesn’t even come on when I try to engage. Everything I’m reading leads me to think maybe this has to get replaced. Anyway, great video Ryan. Thanks for sharing.
Ry, I am sure the same procedure applies for my 2008 Nissan Frontier SE. My passenger air bag is always lit up and the flashing light of course. Also, my cruise control will only turn on if I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left. My horn works fine as does everything else. I’m intimidated by the air bag, but I feel more comfortable after watching this video. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
My pleasure Dave. Thanks for watching. I would say the process is similar but likely not exact. Removing the steering wheel might be a bit different. If you remove the battery and make sure the airbag is discharged you should be OK working around just don't drop it or fiddle with it connections too much.
I came across you Ry a while back. Then shortly after I just so happen to have bought a 2008 Xterra (probably partially because of you videos haha) and your videos have helped so much! Thank You for this information and You taught it easily to understand but You never actually showed how to do the "reset" or maybe I couldn't see it because I am watching on my phone and not a computer. I don't know because I'm not actually "Techy." Though I did see the reset by watching a video on this subject from another person here on UA-cam. I have a 2007 Nissan Titan and my horn won't shut off! I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. I asked UA-cam the problem/repair and all it will bring up is videos like Yours so I guess if I do this repair I hope it'll solve my horn issue. I just recently bought this truck and will need to know how to do repairs on it so I "Subscribed" to Your Channel hoping You can Help. Thank You.
Hi Ry, I replaced the clock spring and the Steering angle sensor at the same time. Now the SLIP and VDC OFF light are on. Is there a way to recalibrate without a computer? Your video was spot on and just the right speed
Hey Man, just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your video. I was hesitant to change out the clock spring myself, but then I was like hell with it! You video saved me a couple hunny I am sure had I taken to the dealership. Much appreciated! Oh last thing, as for the air bag reset. Your video said the instructions or link would be up in the top right corner. I didn't see anything. I was able to find your video on a quick Google search though. Anyway just letting you know, maybe add it in the messages area along with your other links. Again, thanks a bunch!
Thanks Dave, I'm really glad it helped. Once you start digging in it gets easier, you just need to take that leap. Is it possible you were watching the video on the phone or tablet? Because I noticed that the cards don't work very well on those devices. For instance after you said that I checked on my PC and the card shows up in the upper right hand corner just fine.
Another point is if you have trouble getting the steering wheel to break free, leave the nut on the steering shaft at full thread and get behind the wheel. Place both feet firmly on floor and use your body weight to pull back on the wheel while gently. rocking from side to side. This almost always works, and the nut prevents the wheel from kissing your face.
I really appreciate this video Ry! My airbag light isn't blinking but my horn won't work and my radio volume don't work. Is it the clock spring or something else? Again Thanks for the videos!
Well done. One thing I don't do is place myself in front of the airbag assembly on the first KOEO position. Not even my arm. You just never know. It can even be vexing when you install that negative cable onto the battery post.
If anyone was wondering, its the same process for the "updated" steering wheel (2013+ i believe). Only difference i found was the bottom of the spiral cable had a third plug which was white.
Thanks so much for this video. My Nissan Xterra just had this problem and this is hands down the best video on how to fix it. Just subscribed as I love my Xterra and will be going through your entire Xterra playlist!
I used your video to change out my clock spring and you made it so easy to follow along, so thank you. One question though, I changed the clock spring, got the airbag light off and the horn works, but now I have the VDS Off and Slip lights on. Any help with what caused that?
AWESOME tutorial ... .I just bought a 2012 Titan. The horn isn't working, neither does the volume control and a couple other functions on the steering wheel.
Great video, but the Ebay part only lasted about year, I ended buying another clock spring from the dealership which cost me more but I want that peace of mind.
I have a steering angle sensor that screws to the back side of the clock spring. It couples to the clock spring. Very important to get this right. My directions from the experts I got it from didn't explain any of this! Had to find out on my own!
The orange and yellow airbag cable connectors should be crossed before inserting them through the steering wheel holes. That wasn't done in this video which is why they ended up being shorter. Compare before and after views of these cables in this video.
At 12:30, the reason your orange and yellow-coded cables seemed shorter was that you swapped their positions when fishing them through the steering wheel openings. Not completely your fault, as the new clockspring had them exiting the casing swapped, but you had to criss-cross them to plug them in the right connection. So you lost an inch or two of slack.
EXCELLENT VIDEO. Your visual camera viewpoints were placed at critical angles, great! This made it well understood as to what was going to happen. Your verbal presentation was also well done, clear voice, no pauses, and professional. My concern is buying the exact Clock Spring for my 2010 Titan. My local mechanic informed me that another owner purchased one and it did not match properly. Is there or are there several reputable companies that do supply the matching product and a return if not properly matched? Thanks from Texas.
Thank you for the video brother it really helped. Quick question...I just replaced the clock spring on my 2015 Nissan frontier and now the traction control light turns on and there's like a click on the brakes when I make a slow turn. Could the clock spring have anything to do with it?
Hi, My 2006 Titan volume up button for the radio stopped working about 6 months ago unless I turned the steering wheel and now the horn only works if I turn the steering wheel approx 3/4 to 1 turn. My airbag light is off. Clock spring in your opinion? Great video!!!! Thanks
This a very good video and the way how you stall is very clear. I got the same problem for my Nissan Titan 2009. Can you tell where you buy your clock springs.Pls. reply as soon as possible.thank you
Took mine apart on a 2008 nissan titan. Have a extra plug in on the old unit I don't have on the new clockspring. I see in this video it looks like you have that extra plug taped up. Is that just for if you had a heated steering wheel? Thanks
Does this truck not have a steering angle sensor? I replaced my clockspring on my frontier and everything works except I have my SLIP light on all the time
Good morning my friend, I have a good question, I have a 2004 Nissan Titan 4x4 and a couple of months ago I changed the Rack n pinion and when I disconnected the bar from the Rack n pinion it was funny to turn it around and I only heard like a spring and well it turns out that it broke it and 😁😁😁 and I bought it and now the horn and the cross control work but it shows me VDC off and SLIP 😥😥 and it seems that an angle sensor also broke, what do you think ??? I hope you can help me please 🙏🙏🙏
Ry very helpful as always. I did this in my Xterra and i am getting a slight rubbing noise like if I’m slightly scraping a plastic could it be that i overtightened the steering wheel or the plastics surrounding it?
Ry, I need to check the clockspring for continuity before I order a new one. Do you know what wires to check? Maybe the Orange and Yellow connectors @6:26 ?
Excellent Video! My horn only works when my steering wheel is in the 10 or 2 pm area so that's typically a clockspring issue so I'm going to replace it. I am having some challenges finding the part for my 2016 Frontier though. Your link below gives out an error as to the part you bought so I started to do my own research to get a part # (so I can then do searches across many sites to find the best cost) and I'm finding 2 choices on the Nissan parts breakdown page for my truck; first there is the Sensor Steering Angle (47945-AS500) which is very expensive and then there is the Steering Wheel Position Sensor (47945-JD00A) which is half the cost. So which one do I need? Neither mention the term clock spring or spiral cable so I'm somewhat lost. Alternatively I'm thinking of taking it out and matching online pictures to find one but I would rather have an exact part #. Any assistance is appreciated!
Hey bud. I need to replace my clock spring on my 2012 Nissan frontier pro 4x4. I like your video of the step by step procedure. How do I know what the proper clock spring is to order? Nissan wanted to charge me $500 for a new CS. Is this the correct part number for my truck? 25560-9BH3A
I found on my 2012 frontier that there was an angle sensor attached to the back of the clock spring attached with 3 small screws. That needed to be removed from clock spring assembly I removed and put on the replacement clock spring.
@@anthonyd9222 Thanks for the information. My traction control light did stay on when I first started the vehicle. When I moved the vehicle forward I felt that little tug from the brakes you fell every blue moon or so. I believe the light went out. I cycled the traction control a couple of times before I moved the vehicle any further and it has been ok - it stayed off. Maybe I just got lucky but I will know what to do in case it comes on and stays on in the future.
I have 2007 nissan quest also my questions is one of the bolt on the left left side of the the steering wheel I just can't 10 millimeter socet there's a special tools for it right?
Hey Ry, just did this and now my turn signal auto cancel works to the right, but no longer works to the left. Should I assume the turn signal stalk wasn't re-installed correctly? I don't want to pull it back apart, but I will if I have to.
I actually have an Altima , but not many videos out there showing the clock spring so I appreciated this. I was curious about the procedure you went through to re-check the system however. In the video you said it would be on the right; did I miss this somehow? Thanks
Great video! How similar are the gen 1 titans to the gen 2? I need to replace the wheel and I can’t seem to find much on the newer generations. Thanks.
Floyd was very good can't take anything away from him but, the error he was fighting in I thought was the second greatest error of the welterweights. Sugar Ray Leonard error I thought was the best, Hearns, Benitez and Duran. That is why it is so hard to say who were the greatest. It is always base on your opinion. From what I see, Sugar Ray Leonard was the best welterweight that I have ever seen.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing. When I got into my Clockspring, it has an extra electrical connection next to he ones you show at 7:26 in your video...??? The replacement part I have does not have a connection here, neither does the new one you show... Any ideas? --- I forgot to take a photo to show.
I replaced the clockspring on my 2015 Xterra and the horn and volume controls work again but the airbag light is still on and the ABS light is now on with physical symptoms. You didn’t mention calibrating after you installed the clockspring - I was hoping maybe the guy who installed my clockspring didn’t calibrate so was going to try that first as a solution. I’m getting fault C1143 and P1856 from the diagnostic tool. Any ideas? I’m in Barbados with my American imported Xterra and no mechanics here have a clue 😩
I swapped out the clockspring on my wife's Nissan Armada. I'm fairly certain I put everything in correctly. The issue I'm having is the slip & vdc light coming on when turning the wheel and it feels scary. I used a scanner to calibrate the steering angle sensor that I removed and put on the new clockspring, but based on the feel of grinding in the pedals and while turning, how do I correct this? Im losing my mind and just sent the scanner back to Amazon.
My husband is trying to change the clock spring on his 2008 Titan SE. he’s having trouble getting plastic cover off of the back of the steering wheel.. to get to the anti theft bolt for the airbag… any ideas??
I saw no mention of a steering angle sensor in the video. Doesn't the clock spring have a steering angle sensor (SAS) mounted into the back of it? If it did, did you have to swap it into the new clock spring as I know new ones don't usually come with that part? If your new one did come with one and you just didn't show that, did you not have to do a recalibration to the steering angle sensor? I have heard that some vehicles will have ABS and Traction Control lights coming on if you did not do the recalibration of the steering angle sensor. I am curious because I am about to do a Nissan Rogue, and the new clock spring is going to have to have the old steering angle sensor inserted into it when I change it out.
Question: I’m replacing the steering audio/cruise control buttons, do you if they “pop” off, or do you need to remove the air bag to get them off? Can’t find a signal video on the process.

I hope you can help me please 🙏🙏🙏
Ry very helpful as always. I did this in my Xterra and i am getting a slight rubbing noise like if I’m slightly scraping a plastic could it be that i overtightened the steering wheel or the plastics surrounding it?
Thanks! Yeah, I see steering column plastics are not perfectly aligned then it could be rubbing against the steering wheel.
Excellent video and description. This will help me tremendously as I replace mine.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching!
What a great video!
Thanks!
Will this procedure be the same on a2011 armada?
Or did they change designs,thxs
I have 2007 nissan quest also my questions is one of the bolt on the left left side of the the steering wheel I just can't 10 millimeter socet there's a special tools for it right?
Hey Ry, just did this and now my turn signal auto cancel works to the right, but no longer works to the left. Should I assume the turn signal stalk wasn't re-installed correctly? I don't want to pull it back apart, but I will if I have to.
Will replacing this fix my flashing Cruise lights? My cruise doesn't engage. Changed the brake switch with no results.
Thanks.
Unfortunately I don’t know but if you post a question in the titan forums I bet someone knows if the hubs are the same.
This is one of the best walkthroughs I've seen, thank you! Subscribing.
Thank you!
Awesome video!! Hopefully my install goes as smooth
Yes, hopefully! 🤞🏻
Thanks for the help good video
You're welcome. Thank you.
Is 25 ft. Lb good for a 2008 nissan xterra steering wheel?
My horn and the buttons on my steering wheel aren't working. Will replacing the clock spring fix the buttons as well?
Floyd was very good can't take anything away from him but, the error he was fighting in I thought was the second greatest error of the welterweights. Sugar Ray Leonard error I thought was the best, Hearns, Benitez and Duran. That is why it is so hard to say who were the greatest. It is always base on your opinion. From what I see, Sugar Ray Leonard was the best welterweight that I have ever seen.
Thanks for sharing.
Do you have a link for where you got this part? I can't seem to find one for my 2012 armada platinum
Great video!! Thanks for sharing. When I got into my Clockspring, it has an extra electrical connection next to he ones you show at 7:26 in your video...??? The replacement part I have does not have a connection here, neither does the new one you show... Any ideas? --- I forgot to take a photo to show.
Looking for this exact comment, did you get an answer anywhere for this?
I replaced the clockspring on my 2015 Xterra and the horn and volume controls work again but the airbag light is still on and the ABS light is now on with physical symptoms. You didn’t mention calibrating after you installed the clockspring - I was hoping maybe the guy who installed my clockspring didn’t calibrate so was going to try that first as a solution. I’m getting fault C1143 and P1856 from the diagnostic tool. Any ideas? I’m in Barbados with my American imported Xterra and no mechanics here have a clue 😩
Thank you so much. Just found it and boy does it help. Are the steps the same for a 2007 Armada? My replacement came with stalks. Thank you again
Most detailed video I’ve seen perfect job
I appreciate it! So glad you like it.
My 2016 Frontier airbag flashes, will not reset. My horn works, but side buttons don’t. Sensor or clock spring?
@Ry the car guy by any chance do you still have the part number? When on the link you gave but seems like they sold out and looking to do mine.
very helpful 👌..thank you for sharing
You got it! Thanks for watching.
Great video. Very nice explanation.
Thank you!
Mine didn't have one.
@Rythecarguy weird. Guess it depends on the model and such.
Air bag is different on the Frontier, Its a metal bar that has to be pushed up from underneath to release air bag
I just changed my clockspring is it normal for the traction control light to come on and stay on?
Thank you 👍
You are welcome
Got the airbag light to come on and the stability light also after an alignment and upper control arms installed. You think this will do the trick?
This or an steering angle sensor reset.
Question: I’m replacing the steering audio/cruise control buttons, do you if they “pop” off, or do you need to remove the air bag to get them off? Can’t find a signal video on the process.
Gosh, I’m sorry, I don’t remember
I have B1054 code Frontier. Is this the fix ? How to know please..thnx !
Great vid !! Liked!
Will that also cause the cruise control not to work
Niice one ry 👍🏾
Still waiting on wheels n tires for the X
Someday my man, I am running into some really big expenses right now but I have been shopping. 🛒
