Essentially I am referring to most shoes that are considered more formal or smarter than sneakers/trainers which are mainly leather shoes and boots but there are obviously some exceptions to that.

I just love how many of these shoes could either be simple, or extremely extra or weird, but they are always unique and very expressive. That “kinda worn out” factor also adds personalization to the sneakers and that’s pretty cool imo
I urge formal footwear lovers to give leather soles a chance. Good quality leather shoes have leather soles that erode/shape to your walking pattern. They also have cork insoles which literally mold to the shape of your foot after a few wears. Cork also absorbs shock better than rubber does. You can get shoes that have this starting around $200.
I maintain leather shoes are just as comfortable, if not more comfortable in some cases, as sneakers, it's just that we as a society have collectively forgotten you're supposed to "break in" shoes (and clothes in general for that matter). People buy them cause they have to go to a wedding, find them uncomfortable all day, and then never wear them again until the next formal event. No wonder they don't feel good, you have to wear them more often for them to really form to your foot. I've been wearing leather shoes as part of my broader goal to look more put together (but not super preppy or anything) as of recent. I've got a pair of oxfords from when I graduated high school and a pair of solovairs I got earlier in the year. The solovairs in particular were super tough to break in, but man, there's something about wearing them (especially now as it's the winter) that just feels so awesome. They're comfortable, they protect your feet from the elements, and they just look so fucking cool. The only benefit sneakers give imo is that they're more comfortable when you're doing athletic things, but more often than not, I'm spending most of my life either walking, standing, or sitting. I'm not running or jumping much in my day-to-day life.

I think another thing that killed sneaker culture was the erosion of what originally birthed it: basketball shoes. All the casual/lifestyle sneakers that are popular now are basically all trying to mimic the look of 1980’s-90’s basketball shoes. Companies like Nike and Adidas moved away from using materials like leather to make their shoes to optimize performance. While this does make for lighter, better performing basketball shoes, it totally killed the appeal of wearing them for anything other than playing basketball. Nobody wears Lebrons off the court like Jordans, despite him being one of the famous players, if not people, in the world, because they just simply don’t look as good. Hopefully the hype around Anthony Edwards’ shoes and Devin Booker’s signature shoes being made to look nice on and off the court can help revive the culture.
Anthony Edwards shoes look like hardcore basketball/performance shoes. And the Book1 looks like knockoff AF1. No one is wearing them casually. But you definitely make a point, most athlete's shoes aren't shoes you can wear casually anymore, and that's had a big impact on the sneaker world. Especially since durability and all year versatility is a factory for parents buying their kids shoes. You cant be wearing fabric shoes in the winter.

Basically, the trend is kind of similar in idea to how boat shoes were the thing back in 2011, and sneaker culture was basically dead for like a year and some time, but people still wore sneakers. The mainstream norm changes every year tbf, but generally people have been wearing smart shoes like Tabis or prada derbys or even doc martens with Needles track pants, shirt trackies t shirt trackies, or a wide pleated pants for years. It’s like in 2018-late 2019, I started getting into hikercore, because of rave culture at the time in London, and festival and then it suddenly got huge and very mainstream, and now it’s basically dead, but the whole functionality of all those pieces during winter months or on a sporadic rotation like during the spring is still useful. It depends from people to people.
Another plus of formal footwear is that there surely are a lot of no name or national brands that still make pure leather high quality shoes for way cheaper, like 50$ or less
My first Jordans was the bloodlines, the leather was really nice (rare moment because other jordans got crap leather) and no hype around it . Since then I'd rather buy things with quality instead of overhyped bullcrap.
The lengths people go so their shoes don't look creased fascinates me. Dudes do all this stupid shit as if they want people to think they just bought a fresh pair any time they go out. Why try to convince people that you have that money if don't ? So silly
because people grow up. They are not in their teenage years. They have to go work and settle down. No employer nor girls want their boyfriend/partner look like a boy :)
TLDR you can wear formal shoes with casual outfits but you can't wear casual shoes with formal wear. This therefore proves that overpriced plastic Jordans are an inferior purchase as opposed to equally priced made-to-measure shoes that will last you several resoles and potentially up to a decade or more. Go figure. Functionally fancy > fashionably disposable.
Depends on the shoes and the outfit. Jordan 1’s can last you decades as well, one of the only Jordans that are built so simple that they can last. But the only good Jordan 1’s are the original 1985 colors, those are timeless - not the endless milking of the new colors. But you’re right you can’t wear sneakers with formal wear-like a tuxedo or dinner jacket. But you can wear sneakers business casually/a little dressed up-depending on the sneaker. Anyway, this is coming from someone who wears loafers, derbys and sneakers- and used to be a designer shoe salesperson at a high end department store. But the only sneakers I wear are Chicago 1s, Air Max 90 and Black Cement 3s. My formal shoes vary from Ferragamo, Allen Edmonds, Gucci, hell ALD too. So glad sneaker hype is dying though, too many people hopped on who just want to make a buck or fit in. Variety is the spice of life!
@@HYPERxSONICxFANx2012says him and most other rational people. You “can” wear or do whatever you want, but everyone else will think less of you because you’re consciously deciding to make poor outfits as a fashion statement. You “can” wear sneakers with a suit, but you will look like an idiot.
Formal shoes are dead. They are very uncomfortable. There is a reason why they are practically extinct. There is even a study that links bad footwear to leg injuries and pains. No formal shoe except for Doc Martens give you shock protection so whenever you jump or run, all that impact goes directly to your legs. Add the fact that these formal formals are badly designed to the point that it leaves your feet in a shape that enhances any pressure or impact to your feet. What's the point of being functionally fancy when your feet are in pain? Move on. Let formal shoes die. There's a reason why everyone uses sneakers. Made to measure shoes are hot garbage. There's no way it is better performing than a sweatshop formal shoes 😂. In fact sneakers are cheaper and often better. The reason they break is because people actually wear them down to pieces. I still got an OG Ultraboost 1 and it is still comfortable, obviously not as comfortable as the newest ultraboost but still far better than leather shoes.
Solovair is by far better quality than Docs. It's quite a bit more in cost but they'll last a very long time. Not even the made in england docs compare to solovairs

19:07 the first fit is wayyy better than the second one. People really forgo timeless perfectly good fits for 0 personality trend hopping huh?
They both look fine
I was just thinking about sneakers and rap and went to UA-cam and this popped up first thing on UA-cam. I am highly worried about my free will.
atleast you can realize it aint coincidental. Reality is crazier than fiction
Another plus of formal footwear is that there surely are a lot of no name or national brands that still make pure leather high quality shoes for way cheaper, like 50$ or less
Ahhhh yes. My monthly dose of wrong trousers. I am satiated
My first Jordans was the bloodlines, the leather was really nice (rare moment because other jordans got crap leather) and no hype around it . Since then I'd rather buy things with quality instead of overhyped bullcrap.
10:38 there’s no way anyone can actually look in the mirror with this fit and think they look ready to go out in public
sneaker> formal footwear> designer
Unpopular opinion: sneakers and formal shoes are both cool
great video editing was fire
Super excellent video as always
Ight bro you get a new subscriber. Good shit.
on everyones soul this vid was fire
Does this mean the leather shoes i've been FEANIN for will get cheaper?
jordans will always be my holy grail
I can finally buy the sneakers I wanted without paying the crazy resale price 😼 that’s a win for me
id like you try to do a geography test on the caribbean or south america BUDDY

0:40 I want the state capitals on my desk asap
That part.
who cares about the capital of arkansas?
@@MaatStile poor Little Rock
I turned my back on sneakers because of durability. They just don´t last long enough.
Wait, Paraboot is mainstream now?
This a good well written video good job
I kind of like that loafers are in trend, and I have a few pairs myself so yeah...but I still prefer sneakers overall
The lengths people go so their shoes don't look creased fascinates me. Dudes do all this stupid shit as if they want people to think they just bought a fresh pair any time they go out. Why try to convince people that you have that money if don't ? So silly
here i am letting my platforms get a scratch or two here and there
I have a lot of shoes and I stopped caring about creases, most shoes look better a little beat anyways
As an American no one says derbies like that
another banger as always, wrong trousers
i've been buying new rock boots. i don't care for formal footwear. in the process of going emo/goth. which reminds me i need band shirts
Grab you some snacks and drinks, incorrect pants dropped another video!
because people grow up. They are not in their teenage years. They have to go work and settle down. No employer nor girls want their boyfriend/partner look like a boy :)
We can thank Tyler the creator for this trend of formal footwear
He had a bit of influence on it tho
SUPER SMASH BROTHERS MELEE OUTRO!
roasting americans right off the bat 😭
I’ll keep my sneakers thank you

Loafers, Dr Martin’s and Derby’s are classic casual shoes not at all considered formal.
"can't wear casual shoes with formal wear" says who? i'll wear my new rock boots with whatever i want. all my clothes are black anyway
I still got an OG Ultraboost 1 and it is still comfortable, obviously not as comfortable as the newest ultraboost but still far better than leather shoes.

loafer gives the edge you want
Solovair is by far better quality than Docs. It's quite a bit more in cost but they'll last a very long time. Not even the made in england docs compare to solovairs
I believe in oxford, combat boot and derby supremacy.🗣
Wrong trousers you've done it again. I was going to just get another pair of Saint laurents, and now i might just pull the trigger on some guidis or even ccp if I'm feeling extra cheeky
I just got guidis really amazing much better than ysl or rick even imo. CCP so hard to get in US but thats my next move. Avant Garde will be the new trend soon
I ain’t sacrificing my style. For another. No way.
I knew about Derby. Mainly because of Kieran Lee ...
