2002 Suburban Ignition Hall Sensor Bypass and Key Relearn

My hall sensor was going bad (the sensor just above the ignition) The toothpick in the connector trick worked for a while, but then starting became unreliable again. Choices are to spend a LOT of money on security parts for a vehicle no one would want to steal at its age or is there another option? It was time to either get a variable resistor and match the current set up OR just pick a 2.2kohm resistor that is a known value that works, wire it in, and do the key relearn process. IT WORKED! I used: 1/2W 1% Metal Film Resistor for Led Lights
This process should work for sure for all GM 2000-2004 (and probably out to 2007) Trucks, Suburban's, Tahoe's, etc.
Process:
Take apart the plastic surrounding the steering wheel - see any number of videos for that.
Cut the orange/black & yellow wires coming off the hall effect sensor
Connect them back together with a 2.2K ohm resistor
Follow the key relearn process:
Key off
Key on
Key to start position for lets say 2 seconds "attempt to start the engine"
Key back to on position (wait until security light stops flashing, about 10 minutes)
Key to off position (count to 5)
Key to on and then start position for another "attempt to start"
Key back to on position (wait until security light stops flashing, about 10 minutes)
Key to off position (count to 5)
Key to on and then start position for another "attempt to start"
Key back to on position (wait until security light stops flashing, about 10 minutes)
Key to off position (count to 5)
Key to on and then start position & this time the vehicle should start if all the steps were done correctly.
Key relearn process completed.
Clean up:
Solder all your connections for best longevity
Wrap and heat shrink your connections
Put all your plastic back together and do a victory dance until the next thing breaks.
